  1. Agree with this but what have we been dong about it for all these years? You just get the feeling that we will forever be happy to just compete and make up the numbers. Even if we do somehow still qualify (which would be great) what's the actual point? We will go there wth a, 'it's just great to be here' attitude and get turned over. When will we as a nation actually aspire to be world beaters at our national sport!?

    Midfield

Think Morrison should definitely be dropped buy he seems to be one of the first names on the team sheet, I have no idea why. Could be a game for the coolness Darren Fletcher to play behind Brown. Think Fletcher can mentor players through a game whereas Brown can only really focus on his own game.

    Disgrace

Agree with all the above, why is Morrison always picked? He's average at best and I cannot think of a single outstanding game he's played for us!
  4. Had this exact conversation in the bar last night and have had it many times previously. As a 'nation' who Is happy to be governed and dictated to by another, it is not really surprising that we tend to accept second best. It's deep rooted in our psyche and will not change until we are independent. A country like Uruguay with a smaller population than us strives to achieve the absolute best in its national sport (football) whereas we are happy to 'just take part' or 'just compete.' I was over in Uruguay during the 2011 Copa America, not once did I hear them put down their chances or big up their rivals, they knocked Argentina (hosts) out their own tournament and fully expected to! We on the other hand always seem to be content with making up the numbers, trying our best or simply just having a good day out. We have no real ambition to actually achieve real success. For me, if your population is anything above 2-3 million and you focus on your national sport then you should strive to achieve the ultimate goal in that particular sport, that would be winning the FIFA World Cup in our case. The New Zealand rugby union team is another good example of how huge success can be achieved.

    Midfield

Still gutted after watching last nights game, it was the performance rather than the result which is most concerning. We put ourselves in a great position with the previous results and yet seemed flat and lacklustre in a must win game. The majority of games are won and lost in midfield and for me we are just not good enough in that position. I think Darren Fletcher should have started last night, he may have been more able to control the game, this is something that Scott Brown simply can't do on his own, his passing and general technique is poor at times. I have know idea why Morrison starts every game, he offers almost nothing and I can't think of any outstanding performance he has had for us. I hear people say this is the best Scotland midfield in a generation, absolutely no chance. We have no one at the moment who is close to the likes of McStay, Mcallistair, Collins, Lambert or Barry Ferguson.
  6. Hi there, I am looking for 2 x tickets for the Poland game. Please PM or contact me on 07513595490 if you have anything available, many thanks.
  7. Think this is what will give the next YES vote a great advantage next time around. Surely a very high percentage of people who voted YES will vote that way again, I'm thinking 90%+ On the other hand, I think a lower percentage of no voters will vote that way again, maybe 60-70% Not sure how those numbers would add up, but that togethher with the changing demographics should be enough to clinch a YES vote. Only question is when we have another referendum? I'm terrified of going again too early and losing but part of me thinks we have to strike whilst the iron is hot, maybe within the next 3 years.
  8. Agree with this, big Dunc would have caused Adams and the English defence so many problems. Only thing the 96 team was missing was a better presence up front. Think we would have beaten England in the 99 play-off too had big Dunc played.
  9. Ya beauty!!!........both Alexander's OUT......what a night! Bedtime for me!
  10. A few too many over the years, these are the ones which spring to mind first: England, Euro 96 (never went from such a 'potential' high to such a low so quickly) England 99, Hampden (did not deserve to lose that match) England 99, Wembley (should have won by at least 2 clear goals and qualified) Belgium, Hampden (up 2 nil against an average 10 man Belgium side, drew 2-2. ultimately cost us qualification)
  11. Just finished watching the Madrid derby, there was a stoppage just before the 90 minute mark which must of ran for at least two minutes. The board then goes up for 5 additional minutes in the 92nd minute which I assumed would take the game up to 97 mins. Real then make a couple of substitutes in between some blatant time wasting, and yet the ref blows for full time bang on the 95 minute mark! Referees rarely add on the additional injury time within injury time and it really winds me up, commentators never mention this either! Of course the fact I was wanting Atletico to qualify for my coupon to come in has nothing to do with how frustrated I am with this!!
  12. Qualifying was not easier back then, only 24 countries went to Italia 90. We qualified as runners up to Yugoslavia, France managed by Platini stayed at home, they reached the semi final in Mexico four years earlier. That Yugoslav team would have achieved great things had it not been for the war. An upcoming Norwegian side was also in that group, they went on to qualify for USA 94 and France 98. Euro 92 qualification was also not easy, only the top team from each group progressed to the finals in Sweden which were to involve 8 nations. We were drawn in a sticky group with Romania, Switzerland and Bulgaria. These were arguably the best generation of teams each of those nations have ever produced. Euro 92 was the only tournament the Romanians did not qualify for that decade, they reached the quarter finals of USA 94 and should have gone further. Bulgaria and Switzerland both went on to qualify for USA 94 and Euro 96, Bulgaria reaching the semi finals in 94. I would certainly agree that Craig Brown overachieved with the players we had available during the 90s. We were very unlucky in all our meetings with England too (96 & 99 play-off), success in these games would have elevated Brown even higher. I think previous managers perhaps underachieved with the players we had available in previous generations.
  13. We absolutely bossed the game that night from start to finish, could and should have won 3 or 4 nil! The performance from Ferguson, Collins and the rest of the midfield was outstanding! England midfield was strong (on paper) that night too.....scholes, ince, beckham and redknapp i think. Ironic to think that he probably would not have started had Lambert been fit. Had McCallister not have retired from international football by then he may have been even further down the pecking order. We had some truelly great midfield players at that time. In my opinion the likes of Scott Brown and others in the squad at the moment are nowhere near the same class of footballer. Like others have said before me, Ferguson would have been more suited to Italy or Spain rather than the hussle and bussle of the premiership down south.
  14. Gerry Creaney was a great prospect when he first broke into the Celtic team in the early 90s. I seem to remember a rumour that he was being watched by a few Italian clubs. Seemed to score goals wherever he played during his career.
  15. Not sure if goblin describes it best. I could only see the head and shoulders of the figure, remember the head was really large and his (think it was a he) face was disfigured. I cant really remember any more details, wouldn't say he looked evil but he made me feel very uneasy. During my second episode I was lying face down on my bed. Again I got up and walked around my bedroom, nothing too freaky happened this time. Then I realised (thought) I was dreaming and could not wake up. I panicked and I remember thinking.....have I just died in my sleep! Just as I thought that I could feel my heart beating against the mattress, I was very relieved but could still not wake up. As someone else mentioned, during an episode you can 'wake' up many times before you actually do.
  16. Yes, I have experienced that too. So desperate to awake, finally think you have but then realise you are still dreaming!! Absolute nightmare!....pardon the pun!
  17. speaking of vivid dreams, has anybody here ever had an experience with sleep paralysis?......now that IS scary sh1t!! it has only happened to me on four occasions but I remember each one vividly, really hard to explain, each time has been slightly different. during an episode it is always hard to tell if you are dreaming or not. for example the first time it happened to me I got out of bed and began to walk around my bedroom, looked out the window, it was sunny outside and there was a horrible looking goblin type creature looking back at me. part of me knew I was only dreaming as it was night and should be dark outside but it was extremely difficult to get a sense of reality. it went on for what felt like forever before I finally woke up, it was absolutely terrifying! On another occasion, I actually thought I might be dead but I was lying face down and could feel my heart thumping against the mattress, so this reassured me. Like I say, it's difficult to explain. All I know is that I will be happy if I never have to experience it again.
  18. for me, the heart has been ripped out of our nation with this no vote. don't know how anybody who voted no could possibly contemplate singing flower of Scotland!......would the irony be lost on these people!? we had our chance to be a nation again but didn't take it. there are no good reasons for voting no, you either don't want Scotland to be independent or are selfish to the core. this halfway house, best of both worlds p1sh that some no voters promote is pathetic. wanting to have your own identity as being Scottish but not believing that your fellow countrymen could run our nation is a sad viewpoint indeed! i would have been more comfortable if a no vote had meant we became a region of England. for me Scotland is dead until we become a fully independent nation!
