  1. Ok fair enough. So the current manager didnt want him by the looks of it. Well hopefully that manager gets the punt and club brugge get a new manager that likes him. Wishful thinking but you never know.
  2. Hes 17 in less than 2 months. He would be going on loan at 17. If hes the real deal then he should be able to cope with league1 at 17. Fraser and mcginn played spl at 17. Che adams played played league 1 at 17. I dont see the problem with doak doing the same rather than wasting away playing epl youth football which has been proven not to develop our players anyway.
  3. Whys it laughable. Johnston has actually played in the europa league and scored as well as playing on and off for celtic for several years. Often playing well. Hes struggled with injuries and performances have been poor which has set him back but now hes playing top flight in portugal. Doaks played youth football and you suddenly expect him to be a superstar. You have heard of robbie foy, islam feruz, gary mackay-steven etc. These guys all excelled at epl youth level and now some of them dont even play pro football. Being a youth star means nothing. Just ask freddy adu and the hundreds of hyped up youth players over the years who never made it at the top level. Mikey johnston has at least made it as a pro footballer doak has yet to even do that. Just to be clear i do think doak will make it at a decent level but the level of expectation from some ppl in here is strange when regarding our epl youth prospects. Lets wait and see how they do in proper mens football before we get excited.
  4. So you want to wait until hes 19 before sending him out on loan or do you think hes going to be fast tracked into liverpools first team? I think he might get fast tracked but theres a good chance he goes out on loan eventually. He looks special and thats why i want him playing proper football as soon as possible even if it is only league1. Ideally english championship would be good as well but its quite a leap in standard for the lad and league1 would be a safer bet for him to flourish in.
  5. Why would klopp not send him out on loan? You think hes going to fast track him to the first team? He might but its unlikely. Were you one of the ppl in here who thought calvin ramsay was going to instantly jump into the liverpool first team. Doak looks special but its unlikely he gets in the liverpool first team this season or next. Klopp probably understands that u18s football is a long way off the standard required and he will likely choose to see how doak copes in actual mens football before he sticks him in the first team at liverpool. He might chuck him in next season in efl cup games or the odd league appearance if the bench but most likely doak will head out on loan at some point in the next couple of years. Personally i think league 1 or spl would be decent level so that we can see how he copes playing every week in professional football where the pressure is on to get results. Its been the same old story in here over the years regarding young players who get signed up by big epl clubs. Fans think they are the next messiah because of some good performances at youth level and then when they struggle to make it at a decent level ppl are surprised. Mikey johnston was excellent at youth level. His goal against england u21s was amazing but now hes struggling and will probably not make it at celtic. Its a massive leap to go from youth football to even english championship level.
  6. Plenty of epl clubs send 17 year olds out on loan. Harry kane and jack grealish being examples. If this lad doak is the real deal then i would prefer he gets proper first team football rather than u18s which is rubbish standard in comparison to even league1. Most of our best players played lower league football at 17 so i dont see the problem with doak doing it as well. Its a much better learning curve than pissing about in epl youth football which has shown proven statistically that it isnt good for scottish youngsters development.
  7. He turns 17 in a couple of months. You suggesting liverpool never send him out on loan? Most liverpool youngsters get sent out on loan at some point. Not sure why doak would be different. He looks amazing but thats at u18s level. He might be rubbish when playing against adult men which is what hes going to have to do at some point if he wants to have the slightest chance of making it at liverpool.
  8. What has doak done so far in his career to suggest hes too good to be put out on loan. What level do you think is fair considering hes pretty much never played professional football? The lad could end up being another karamoko dembele or feruz.
  9. Eh? The lads never played at any proper pro football barring 1/2 apps for celtic. He might not even be good enough for league1 level(england). Elliot anderson went out on loan to a league 2 side and showed he was easily too good for that level, why not do similar with doak. Callum mcgregor went out on loan to notts county when he was 20 and he got a good run of games there and played really well. All our best players we have started out playing lower level football when they were in their teens. What makes you think doak at 16 year old is too good for that level. You do realise how poor epl youth football is. Try watching some highlights and you will see how bad it is. Even u21s international football isnt the best of standards. Especially cohntries like ourselves and northern ireland.
  10. Yeh he looks special. Hopefully goes out on loan to somewhere. Maybe a league1 or 2 team. See how he does there for half a season.
  11. Really hope he gets chances at cremonese because he was finally starting to build a career in belgium. Club brugge have started the league poorly this season so maybe the manager he fell out with might get the sack which might open up a chance to head back there after his loan. Cremonese is going to be a tough gig imo. They are a small club and they are already in the relegation zone. It will be a tough relegation battle there and hendry will have to try and shine in a poor team. Just hope that maybe a good english championship team with potential to move up or a decent team in europe takes a chance on him at the end of his loan spell. I think the more experience hendry gets the more he will flourish into an excellent centre back capable of being consistently good.
  12. Hard to tell tbf. O neill did fairly well with ni and he maybe suits international football better than club management. With hindsight i am happy we got clarke instead but o neill might have been a success as well. I also think o neill got lucky to a certain extent with ni having a backline that all played at wba. I think brunt, mcauley and evans all played in the same defence at wba. Must be a huge advantage to have a defence playing together every week. I would love if we could get 2 centre backs playing together at club level. For example how great would it be to have mckenna and hendry both playing at nottingham forest or hyam and mckenna at blackburn.
  13. A draw or loss to ireland and the anti clarke mob will want him out again. Then if we beat ukraine they will scuttle away again.
  14. The clarke haters are strange. Guy takes us to our first tournment in 22 years and then gets us to world cup play off but one bad result and they want him gone. They also cant name any realistic alternative. The scotland job was not an attractive job especially before clarke took it on. Its actually a slightly more attractive job now thanks to clarke. I really hope we get another two good results because that will end any anti clarke shite until at least the euro campaign starts.
  15. The scotland squads were alot stronger comparatively speaking with the squads these days. We had loads of top players who were winning european competitions in the 70s. Also i am pretty sure countries like sweden and denmark etc were pretty poor at this time.
  16. Personally i am happy with his performance as a manager so far. Theres only been 1 really bad result under his tenure and its been overall an upward trajectory imo. Obviously we should expect this to continue but i firmly believe clarke will take us to the euros and thats all i ask for. I would argue that our standard of player has risen slightly in the last few years but its still not a massively strong squad in terms of depth and clarke regulary has to get the best out of guys who play english championship or spl. For me hes the best option we can realistically get and i am glad the sfa did something right for once by appointing him.
  17. Yeh i would rather he kept the same team and formation as last night but maybe he has different plans.
  18. Always felt gallagher got a raw deal. He played well in the games he got and ended up not playing a single minute at the euros and then got dumped out the squad. Josh doigs a strange one, surely we have plenty of left back cover in taylor, hickey and tierney.
  19. Would be great for gordon to play at the next euros. Would be a great farewell for a guy who always turned up even when scotland were playing poorly. He deserves a major tournament.
  20. Dont see the problem with elliot anderson switching to england. Hes born and bred there and probably feels english. I think its best not to call him to the senior squad and give him a bit more time in the u21s so that he can mull over what is a big decision for him. Before the bravehearts start crucifying him try and remember he is actually english and its maybe a tough decision for him.
  21. Jack hendry was excellent last night. Just hope he gets gametime this season as he was building good momentum in his career in belgium. Hes 27 and needs to be playing every week as hes had very little first team football for a guy his age.
  22. Not sure we would have necessarily lost with a back 5 and robbo playing. The back 5 has worked in the past because tierney plays and is comfortable carrying the ball out of defense and into midfield freeing up space for the midfielders and helping to pull opposition players out of position. Personally i think the players actually turned up last night and we really need them to do that more often. The back 4 was good but a back 5 that has tierney in it has yielded decent results as well. Ppl are too quick to blame the formation as the main reason when we win or lose. Last night mctominay also played his best match in a scotland shirt and we need him to do that more often if we want to get results. Tierney is also key to our success and we look a much better team with him in it. Problem is hes injured half the time. Going forward i would like to see a back 4 but whats important is we get good performances from our best players and last night that happened regardless of formation.
  23. Armstrong had a good gane imo. Just needs to be more composed in front of goal. Those possesion stats are strange. Thought we would have been higher than that especially considering the second half. Seems like possesion means very little in football these days if you dont use it to create decent chances like we did last night.
  24. I think i would play tierney left midfield or wing and put robbo at left back. Robertson takes alot of stick but personally i think hes been pretty good under clarke and ppls expectations on him are unrealistic because of who he plays for.
