  1. This. Given that the SNP's core message has been Independence in Europe for decades now, why are people surprised? I'm generally sceptical about people posting on the Internet and who call into radio phone ins claiming to be a supporter of a party who is on one side of an argument, then vehemently oppose that viewpoint. I think they are at it.
  2. I'd have thought this was more up your street. http://m.imgur.com/817wjzg?r
  3. So Macedonia won't be able to join then as the Greeks will veto it. That should make you happy.
  4. Because they have. Politics these days is less about arguments and more about sound bites. All parties are guilty of this.
  5. It's not the blood testing so much but the genetic selection that puts you in Himmlerland.
  6. You probably don't think any of this is racist either. BTW, this is the official Vote Leave campaign not Farage's nut job band http://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/jun/20/vote-leave-board-member-quits-over-anti-muslim-retweets?CMP=share_btn_tw
  7. Another great point. Probably not that many as the same rights that means that no EU immigrant in the UK at the point of Brexit would apply to the ex-pats in the Costas. What you would probably find though would be that it would mean in future less people would retire to Spain, France, etc. as it would get a lot more difficult. The other point is that - in the main - its older people who make more use of public services so it would be an even bigger strain on public services.
  8. These are great points. The final one hits the nail on the head for me. Given the following facts, people are living longer, by 2032 the average life expectancy for men and women will be 82 and 86 respectively. The U.K. birth rate is actually up in the last few years - interestingly there is evidence that this is linked to young immigrant families having children - but it is not increasing at the same rate at which people are getting older. Given the way in which the whole social welfare system in the UK is predicated on people who are working paying the taxes that provide the pensions, benefits and health services for those that don't. It's clear to me that the only way in which that gap can be closed is by immigration.
  9. It's only UK governments that don't allow public ownership of railways and energy companies. Abellio which of course runs Scotrail amongst other franchises us owned by the Dutch national rail company and EDF is owned by the French state.
  10. Presumably means he'll stand down from his Scotland role.
  11. Watford connection with Warburton. Saw Marriapa play quite a few times there a few years ago when Mackay was the manager and they were in the Championship. He was a stand out for me in that team and I thought he could play at a higher level. Amazed he's only 29, I'd have thought he was older. A good deal if it comes off but he won't be on buttons.
  12. Totally agree, I though Sturgeon was going to start laughing at him at one point The Tory had to get onto something he understood, he clearly didn't understand - of wasn't able to articulate - any of the arguments on the EU.
  13. I suspect if you were to speak to NIcola Sturgeon off the record, she would agree with much of what Marco Biagi says. I suspect there are three reasons why she wants a remain vote across the EU. Firstly, I think her future vision is of an independent Scotland within the EU that contains all the nations of these islands. Secondly, for a future Indyref, both Scotland and the rUK being in the EU nullifies a lot of the scare stories since things like single market, freedom of movement would be guaranteed - the counter-argument is that Scotland would not become part of the EU, which is laughable, however more work needs to be done to improve the arguments against that. Finally, I suspect she realises, as Marco Biagi is stating above, that the battleground that a second referendum would be fought on in this scenario would not be one they would choose and is probably not one they would be confident of winning - of course a lot would come down to public opinion and how "outraged" people were at the result and how the cards fall following a vote for BRexit. Of course, if she were to publicly admit to the last point, she'd be hung out to dry by the media, the opposition and by fundamentalist parts of the independence movement. I suspect her primary objective will be to hold a second referendum when it can be won and she realises that's not the case now. Its easy for Marco Biagi to say this of course as he's now out of politics but I'd be amazed if his views differ wildly from the views of the SNP leadership and who knows, he might even have been encouraged to write this piece.
  14. Apart from psychopaths. There are of course various different forms of mental illnesses which manifest themselves in different ways.
  15. Nothing whatsoever to do with Britain First - aye right.
  16. Ah, the poor old fishermen - like this guy http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/farages-brexit-flotilla-boat-involved-in-63-million-fishing-fraud-a7083231.html or this guy http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/property/news/11288970/Fishing-skipper-fined-over-multi-million-pound-black-fish-scam-buys-Scotlands-most-expensive-house.html

  18. There's also some stuff about a subscription to a right wing US publication. I'd be amazed if more doesn't come out in the forthcoming days.
  19. Lots of stuff coming out about extreme right wing connections that the guy had. Funnily enough it seems to be the Sun, Mail and the Times promoting the "loner with mental health issues, nothing to see here" line. Funny that.
  20. I think things like that poster - sadly juxtaposed with the tragic murder of Jo Cox - will make some undecideds who were leaning towards Leave have second thoughts. The ones that are already convinced, I don't think it will make much difference. I don't agree with you about there being no real undecideds. I was out with four friends on Saturday night, four out of five of us were strong remain and the fifth was a genuine don't know. He's an intelligent guy with a good job and the last time we discussed this in January he was leaning towards Leave, so it's not that he hasn't been thinking about it. There are also people who only now are starting to think about it. I agree with you about "don't knows" on any TV debates, I think a large number are plants - from both sides - especially anyone who says they've now decided based on the debate.
