  1. Agree with that. I’ve made several visits to New Douglas Park and I’ve yet to see an outbreak of football! An absolute abomination of a surface.
  2. I had always thought he was, know he was with the club from a very young age. 🤷‍♂️
  3. Celtic just haven’t tested Rangers bottle at all, and they look in disarray at the moment. They gave Livi at the weekend who are absolutely flying with half a squad out due to the insane decision to fly to Dubai. (I’m guessing due to the incubation period Jullien was probably infected before Dubai, making it all the more crazy that he was anywhere near the rest of the squad given he is injured. )
  4. I think the red card goes against the spirit of the new law, but was probably correct. Curtis Main is getting a red more often than not for his. The best part of it was that Morelos required treatment from the physio. 😂
  5. It’s in the men’s squad too. Although pep had a bit of a cheek to say they were “down to the bare bones” v Man Utd the other night. They were missing their 3rd choice keeper and had a bench including Kyle Walker, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus. 😂😂😂
  6. Delighted with the appointment of Graeme Alexander. Really liked him as a player and his management CV looks pretty good, had success to a point everywhere he’s been. Didnt want a rookie, and wasn’t particularly inspired by many of the others mentioned.
  7. I don’t think they put plans in place. 🤷‍♂️ id say 50% and preferably everyone played each other home and away would be an absolute minimum. Should have been a contingency put in place. eg. Split after 2 rounds of fixtures, or scrap split and play 3 rounds of fixtures and the circumstances under which these would be done... If we had to pause, no reason why we couldn’t come back in either of these ways?
  8. The Motherwell 2 will be snapped up in the next few weeks I’d suspect. Presume we’d be due a decent development fee for Campbell. Gallagher’s stock has probably never been higher, and he’s of an age this is a great opportunity to get a contract that will set him up for life. Feel a bit used with my Motherwell hat on, especially if he tries to force a move to avoid triggering a one year extension. Presume we’ve already offered him improved terms, given he appears to be in the Scotland XI for euros...
  9. The whole thing is a farce from beginning to end. From the postponement of the Hibs game, which it now seems was done retrospectively, to them drinking pints and having hot tubs together. Celtics defence of it is surely a willfull ignorance? There were lots of things that were ok in November that are not now. Had they sought reassurance before they proceeded I don’t think they’d have been given the green light, and I don’t think it’s other people’s responsibility to go back and tell them it’s no longer a good idea. They should have asked these questions themselves.
  10. I quite liked the sound of him, thought maybe his reputation had been tarnished by the number of basket case clubs he’s been at and he could perhaps rebuild it at Motherwell, but Alexander has had far more success albeit at smaller clubs.
  11. Just looking at his CV he seems to have had relative; if short lived, success everywhere he’s been as a manager. Liked him as a player. More exciting than Tommy Wright....
  12. There was a suspicion that the whole Columbus Crew signing was a way round Oxford paying the development fee, as the MLS are (or were?) not liable for it (is it a UEFA thing?) Columbus immediately loaning him to Oxford appeared to back that up. He has spent nearly a year out there though, so probably just sour grapes from ‘well fans, as his Scotland caps etc. Would’ve earned a £250k+ development fee. Decent player, don’t know that Motherwell ever pinned down his strongest position would do well at hibs im sure.
  13. There’s a lot of things that were allowed in November that aren’t now. Sharing hot tubs and sunbathing with a pint 2 feet from each other, while clubs getting slaughtered for not sitting far enough apart at lunch after training. 🤷‍♂️
  14. Agree £17 is too much. What are Rangers offering their home games for to non ST holders? £12 seems to be about the standard rate, but Livi are £20. 😂 At least they are making it available legally unlike Celtic, even if their pricing is a bit off.
  15. Hammell came into the 1st team early when we sold McMillan (McCulloch and Brannan) to Wigan.
  16. I think there’s an element of luck, and circumstances. Motherwell had a great crop come through at once, with McFadden, Pearson, Hammell, Lasley all coming through early 00s, we’d had McCulloch a few years before them, likes of Clarkson, Quinn, shortly after. Our current crop, Turnbull, Campbell, Maguire are all doing well. We are also losing players before they even play for the 1st team or as soon as they make an impression. Like Stewart Mckinstray who went to Leeds or Lee Erwin a few years ago. I don’t think we’ve stopped producing players, they just get taken away earlier and occasionally you get a crop come through together. Sometimes circumstances (admin) mean they get flung in. That season we finished bottom with McFadden, Pearson etc. Was brilliant. Some great results.
  17. Soccer AM voted this one of the worst. Motherwell away ~1992/3. I had it, but think my mum threw it out (along with a Bart Simpson t-shirt she didn’t like).
  18. Motherwell tried all this stuff in the early 00’s. We managed to prove that you literally can’t give tickets away. Yes, you’ll get a few people that will come along for the day, boys clubs, schools etc. but they all need adults to come with them, and your boys club coach for example might be happy to take some kids along once or twice a season, but they’re not doing it every Saturday. Sticking with the Motherwell example, you’ll get locals who will come along, maybe come to cup finals, but a lot of them don’t have the time, money or interest to make it a fortnightly thing. Either that or they will support the old firm and lend their support to us on occasion. The sad fact is, Motherwell are the 3rd most popular team in Motherwell. Could be worse, Livi are 5th in Livingston. 😂
  19. I’m not sure I agree with the “too many teams” argument. Perhaps you could argue our “Professional” league is a bit bloated, but there’s only about 22-23 full time teams that all have a place in their community. Perhaps if you ripped it up and started again you would go for a more American model or like the pro rugby, but you can’t do that now. Teams will just find their level and the recent introduction of the pyramid should help that.
  20. I started typing this before the other replies, which cover some of it off: The reason hearts, hibs Aberdeen etc. don’t always finish 3rd, 4th and 5th is that the disparity in resources between them and your bigger non city sides such as Motherwell, Killie etc. Is not anywhere near as big. With wise use of resources, good management and a bit of luck Motherwell can compete with the city clubs and likewise if you sign 32 year old crocks on 4 year contracts, you might end up in the championship... 😜 The gap in resources from Aberdeen or hibs to Celtic or Rangers is more like the gap from Celtic to Man City or Barcelona (who Celtic have competed with in one off games, but not over a campaign). The draw of the old firm is multi-layered. Success attracts people, the more success the more attractive, I think people’s attitudes have changed aswell, people are way less acceptant of second best, they have so many other things they can do with their time and money. The constant promotion of 2 teams by broadcasters perpetuates all this. Cost is an issue too, the cost of football rose exponentially during the 90s and has never really re-calibrated. Hearts and Livingston are charging similar prices to some EPL clubs. If you’re watching champions league football, competing for titles or watching some of the best players in the world that’s all very well, but if you’re catching up with your mates or attending out of blind loyalty to watch a mid-table shitfest In a league you can’t ever win on a plastic pitch it’s hard to justify the financial and time cost. I could type for days about all that stuff. The other element is of course the elephant in the room. The religious and political causes that both sides attach themselves to. Which for whatever reason is a draw for some folk. At the moment Motherwell are the3rd most popular team in Motherwell, what Rangers and Celtic need to watch out for is them becoming everyone in Glasgow’s 2nd team after Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool....
  21. Finish second to Tavernier(pen) I suspect. 😂 Motherwells top scorers are on 3 though. 😂
  22. Some result for Motherwell. Those 6 goals will likely see the SPFL end the season as our top scorer. 😂 I think it seems extremely harsh. I’m sure similar situations happen in every camp, not least the national team get togethers. It seems like they are being punished because they had positive tests rather than the breaches which may have contributed.... Celtic actually played a guy in a game straight off an easyJet from Malaga. 🤷‍♂️
