  1. Didn't he take over West Ham last season when they were in the bottom 3 and take them up to 13th?
  2. Aye, exactly. In terms of experience, the only other manager linked to the job with as much experience is Moyes, who incidentally while not my first choice, I'd be quite happy with. I think he's been written off too early IMO.
  3. Definitely. There will be people wondering why the guy who's only done quite well with Kilmarnock is deserving of the Scotland job unaware of his history and will be quite surprised after reading your post above. Someone the other day compared Clarke's achievements with those of Levein 🤔
  4. Because a lot of people know very little about football and had probably hardly heard of him before he rolled up at Killie.
  5. Possibly, but you're got to start somewhere, and a half decent managerial appointment would be better than keeping McLeish in the post.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised, but as I said before, they probably seen the ticket sales for the home matches and thought "shit, we need to do something".
  7. Possibly, but we don't have a squad full of world class players, and so require as good a manager as possible to make the most of any strengths we do have. Surely this doesn't need explained.
  8. And yet, Russell is coaching at the highest level and McCoist is trying to be funny on morning radio nowhere near a role in the game. I don't have an axe to grind with the likes of Smith and McCoist, I just think their time has passed and don't have a place with the national team. I've always said that Scotland hasn't got worse in the last 20yrs, we've just stood still and let the rest of the world overtake us, and continually giving the McLeish's and Smith's of this world the head coaching post of the national team is only going keep us there.
  9. I coach at grassroots level and I think we all know there's more to it than that. Yes, maybe they don't run about, but do you think any modern day striker is going to take advice from some fat slob who was decent 15 yrs ago. Again, the games changed since when the likes of McCoist and Walter Smith were successful and I don't think they offer anything going forward. McCoist hasn't been involved anywhere else, why should he be involved with the national team.
  10. I agree. Personally I'd go to Clarke with a blank piece of paper, ask him to write down his demands, then implement then.
  11. Really, that would be an acceptable roll for a coach of any team let alone an international side? In that case would he even need to show up, could he do the role while he's simultaneously on the radio with Alan Brazil and just Skype instructions? If that's the road we go down, we should just chuck it now.
  12. Unfortunately, the bit of you comment that sticks out most to me is "2006". That was a long time ago, and the likes of Smith and McLeish have had their day. Just look at Mourinho, people are saying he's past it and he's about 15 years younger than both of them
  13. Have you seen the size of McCoist lately? I'm not sure he could get his fat arse on to a training pitch to coach anyone.
  14. I don't think anyone takes any mainstream media stories serious any more. They just print what they think will sell newspapers.
  15. If Smith, Levein or Strachan get the job, I don't see me being back at Hampden for a long time.
  16. I feel a lot of people seem to want to write off this group and just rely on the play off as if it's a certainty. Personally, I'd rather get the best guy in now, do what we can in this group, even if it's just getting confidence back, then see what we get from the play offs. But yes, it's difficult to see the SFA making the right choice.
  17. I think most people's expectations are a manager who hasn't already failed in two qualifying groups and someone capable of beating Lithuania at home.
  18. What, just like almost every other football management job. Sounds very 20th century for the SFA, not sure they'll go for it.
  19. I feel that McLeish has been that much of a failure that as long as the next manager isn't Strachan or Levein, I'm not going to be too upset.
  20. Only got Killie to 3rd or 4th, is that all 😂😂😂. They were fighting relegation every season before he came in, now they're playing for a place in Europe. Oh and the fact that he's managed at a pretty decent level, and coached and been respected by world class players as Mourinho's assistant at Chelsea.
  21. You could argue that if they need other top players around them then they're not world class. Gareth Bale being a prime example.
  22. Here's an idea, why not have a decent manager, improve results and try to get rid of the SFA board at the same time. These people probably can't be sacked and they're not going to throw their gravy train away, so I don't think just "being crap" is going to work. Fletcher might have been verging on world class with Man U but very rarely showed it in a Scotland shirt IMO.
  23. Yeah, fuck being good or even decent, we want to be pish. In fact get McLeish on the phone, tell him we've changed out mind. And get him to give Lebrun the assistant post. I get your point, but that has to be one of the most fucking mental posts I've ever read on this board, and that's saying something. The bit about Fletcher and Mcfadden included.
  24. Think the SFA must have seen the ticket sales for the upcoming games and realized they had to act before we were playing Cyprus in front of a four figure crowd.
