SNP leadership election

What's the metric of unpopularity of GRR? Was there a poll? Be interesting to see some empiricism on the debate. -

Just mode of production whether capital owns it, or the actual workers. I was in Chetham library last summer where Marx and Engels did a lot of research. Most of the criticism of socialists is hysteria and by people who have a poor understanding of the situation. Some of it dangerous "cultural marxism" is a rehash of all the old nazi tropes about "Cultural Bolshevism", whether by accident or more nefarious as a dog whistle. Something needs to be done, oxfam had a report out where it stated that 70% of all new created wealth went to 1% of people. If the SNP had an actual left-wing candidate I might vote for them. Cutting local budgets and centralising power isn't appealing at all. Weird how things change, wage slavery was an actual concept in the past, goes way back to Roman times. -

Think this thread is a microcosm of what is going to happen to the SNP at least and maybe the wider independence movement in general. -

The destination is the same regardless of any differences in the route. The will to legislate against equal rights for a group because of some personal philosophy. Many consider that wrong. It's irrelevant if you ascribe to the frankly ridiculous belief that your philosophy is informed by the being that created the universe. Both examples are cases of this. As stated that is the categorisation that allows comparison. Now they aren't identical. They are similiar enough that it is common practice in law and academia for them to be studied in conjunction with each other. That is just a fact. You may think Black is bringing them up disingenuously and using the fact they are linked as a political weapon and those aren't really her thoughts. In that case i'm hardly going to die on the hill of a politician lying for political gain. -

The first part is entirely correct though. Both come as prejudices because of an unfounded belief that same-sex and mixed race marriages are lesser in some way. Same sex cause god said it was lesser, miscegenation cause one race is lesser than the other. There's been research papers written on the similiarities, articles written about it. Studies into miscegenation have been used to inform studies on same-sex marriages. Thinking they are not at least partially akin is a function of your ignorance and not Black's. -

Is the Bute House agreement finished?

With new leaderships the situation changes so up to either part (or both) to change things if they want. Calling an election after the leadership contest is finished is an option too, so the landscape might change even more. -

I just read Black's twitter there, not seeing anything wrong with it in general. -

I feel it's an incorrect framing. All beliefs are political beliefs when you're in power. If they originate by religious dogma or subscribing to Egalitarianism is almost irrelevant. Advocating for politicians to lie isn't really a well thought out plan or healthy for a democracy in the long run. I think since i believe all beliefs are political beliefs in this context then aye time for folk to be scrutinised. More information available the better for decision making. -

I saw the Indian council thing earlier and googled them for some reason it's all stuff about praising Arlene Foster and giving Rangers awards, it was very strange. So I just went back to doing other stuff. EDIT: I see other folk fact check still as well. I just replied without reading the subsequent discourse after it on here. -

To be fair whatever electoral losses are lost to the youth will be recouped by Scottish Family Party gains. the Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Ash Regan just needs to keep quiet a bit longer and will be home dry. I like the scrutiny , it's annoying when it is deployed as a weapon though and not applied equally. -

A lot of folk wanted her gone , so now she is. Much like Forbes she has her beliefs and stuck to them, no point wishing she stayed but grafted your(whoever wanted her to think different) own beliefs over her own. We'll have to wait and see how it all plays out. -

There's no way she is a creationist I imagine? Not someone with her depth of biological acumen. -

Interesting to see "science" cited while having no problem with a story that the creator of the universe waited 14 billion years to impregnate a mammal with opposable thumbs, and a fairly advanced language system. So their offspring could save us from a non-physical phenomenom known as sin which transports our consciousness from our body to another dimension with no time co-ordinate for judgement. Now there's basic biological understanding for you. Funny how one's beliefs are respected and the others are not. -

It's not their views on marriage. It's whether they would legislate on legal rights based on sexuality. It's not oh what's your view on marriage. It's do you restrict rights of people cause they aren't heteroesexual. That's a huge issue for loads of folk. It's total blinkered being oh young folk are more interested on views on marriage and then basically couching it in frankly condescending language, i'm thinking of the big stage. Equal rights is the big stage. Alienating your biggest demograph by holding anachronistic views is going to be a disaster. Let's see what happens and what turns out to be a big stage or not a big stage. -

She would have voted to legislate to ensure rights and legal protections held by others were witheld from people based on their sexuality. That's what she said, whether it is "wrong" will be a subjective thing. In politics folk can vote for you on your views -

Yeah I like how the media pursue theindependence parties it's the scrutiny that should be done. However when it comes to the other side it is completely lacking or done in the middle of the paper so to speak, interviews at 3am on hardtalk or something. -

I just like Greer from the time he went on Morgan's show and shat all over the Winston Churchil hagiography and had him apoplectic. It's also shows the lie in her claiming victimhood that Christians can't be in high office, there's vast swathes of Christians that don't believe the same way as her.
