Clarkes capped loads of young players. Hickey, patterson, gilmour, maybe turnbull? A few more apps for liverpool and clarke will call him up. 15mins in the efl cup isnt really justification imo. Its a tournament that epl clubs play their young players in. Saying that theres a good chance doak gets more first team chances this season and the march qualifiers might be a time to call him up if hes getting the odd game for liverpool.

Is there a possibility of bologna buying more scottish youngsters. They seem to be a good club for developing our talent.

Yeh we can agree on that but you still need to have every position in a squad covered. For example Doaks not competing with mclean for a place in the squad.

Yeh mcfadden produced some great performances for us but he wasnt a world class player and wasnt someone who could take us to the next level as a team. We need a bonafide star man that will make us a really good team and capable of consistently beating top nations. A genuine world class attacking player like switzerland has with shaquiri or wales had with bale. Maybe doak could be that player.

Hes a winger/forward. Maybe similar to someone like mane. Mcburnie is a proper striker and quite a bit different to doak.

Yeh i am no fan of mcburnie for scotland. I am just saying that doak isnt a striker and he hasnt scored any goals yet, albeit he hasnt played in much games to score. I would happy consider shankland over mcburnie, Especially if shankland has a great season. I am saying that doaks not directly competing with mcburnie for a squad place. We will always need proper strikers in the squad. Maybe doak will develop into one. Theres certainly a history of wingers becoming strikers so heres hoping. Burkes not really a striker either imo, more a forward/winger. Maybe more similar to doak.

Hes been unimpressive this season so it is a surprise hes gotten selected. I think hes in the squad based on his form last season where he was scoring semi regulary. There is some potential there as he is fast and can sometimes finish but i doubt he really becomes anything more than an average championship striker/forward. Hes a squad filler at the end of the day. I reckon clarke just keeps him around on the small chance his career takes off and we are hardly blessed with strikers tbf.

Lol i am no mcburnie fan but doak hasnt scored a goal yet. Lets at least wait til he bangs in couple of goals before we proclaim him as a goalscorer. End of day we will always need proper strikers in the squad. If say dykes and stewart are injured, then guys like mcburnie, shankland and nisbet will need to be considered. We just dont have enough strikers playing at a high level to completely rule out mcburnie.

Yeh maybe. I am excited by his potential. Hes clearly gifted. I just never get too excited as i know a player can go from hero to zero in the space of a few months. We could do with a world class attacking player who can single handedly win games for us. Last one was probably kenny dalglish which is pretty sad that its been that long.

Stewart hasnt had a proper chance yet. Mcburnie has and was terrible. I am not suggesting stewart will neccessarily be better but hes earnt the chance to prove himself. If he plays poorly in the games he is given then we can revert back to giving mcburnie another shot. Mcburnie can score all the goals he wants in the english championship but if he plays poorly for scotland then he needs to step aside and let other strikers have a go. Its about what you do in a scotland shirt that ultimately matters to clarke.

15min in the efl cup doesnt mean hes made it yet. Plenty young lads get a few apps at big clubs and then fade away. Not neccessarily saying doak is going to be like them but hes still got a long way to go. Just look at gilmour, he burst into the chelsea side for a few games and looked amazing but now hes struggling to get a start for brighton. Burkes another who played games for rb leipzig and then faded out badly. A little bit of caution before everyone starts proclaiming this lad the messiah. I remember the hype around burke when we he first broke through. Comparisons with bale were common and everybody thought he was going to be massive hit at leipzig. Lets hope that doak starts getting some regular sub apps for liverpool this season and then maybe look to a loan move next season unless they have serious plans on playing him in the first team regulary which they might tbf. He looks like he could be something special but its still a tough ask for him to break into the liverpool side at 17(turns 17 tommorrow). We need players like him to come through as we usually lack guys who can open up defences with pace and good dribbling.

Lol stewarts played 7 games in the championship. What relevance has mcburnie having 10 times more goals in a league stewart has barely played in got to do with the two players ability. Mcburnie has 10 times more championship goals than loads of strikers who never played in the championship. Its irrelevant.

The mcburnie subject always seems to descend into me slagging the guy but i really dont mind him on a personal level. I actually wouldnt mind him getting a chance again especially if his club form is amazing but there would have to be few injuries before he would get much gametime and he would have to perform really well. I just cant see it happening, guys like dykes and adams have proved they are a better option and if stewart or conway was to come in and play well then hes further down the pecking order.

Replying to yourself lol? You can go online and see the amount of goals each player has scored in their career. Interestingly stewart has scored more but obviously mcburnies been playing a higher level.

He was in clarkes teams when he first took over right up to and after the serbia match. He played several games after the serbia match one of which was 90mins v slovenia or slovakia. He got plenty of chances in what was an improving scotland side and he was always poor. Also whats these negative tactics you talk about. Are you suggesting the 352 we played somehow hampered his form. Even if it did he should still be able to do the basics right which dykes manages to do. Dykes and mcburnie both came into the setup at a similar time and its such a contrast watching both play for scotland. Dykes holds up the ball really well and contributes with goals and assists. He has a 1 in the 3 record. Most games i have watched dykes play for scotland i am impressed by how well he performs considering hes just a championship player who doesnt exactly bang loads in at that level. I am all for mcburnie getting another chance in the squad but it seems like everyones forgotten how poor he played in the games he got.

Thats a pretty strong squad considering its a meaningless friendly. Pretty much all our best players are there. My team would be Gordon Patterson mckenna hendry robbo mctominay Fraser Armstrong mcginn tierney Adams Unlikely tierney plays left midfield/wing but i would like to see him tried there as it allows robertson to play as well. Make 5 or 6 subs around the 60min mark. A chance for hendry and mckenna to build on their recent success. Just hope both teams take it seriously as turkey can potentially be a good test for our players and help the players gel.

10 times? Have you actually watched mcburnie play for scotland? Hes been brutally bad in nearly every game hes played. He struggled to do the basics that a pro footballer should be able to do. I am happy for him to get another chance if he continues his club form but it should limited to short spells off the bench like 15 or 20 mins. Stats wise mcburnie should be ahead of guys like stewart and conway but mcburnie has had countless chances and not produced the goods therefore its only fair that other strikers get a chance before him.
