  1. Thanks again. I tried to give you and a few others a reaction but it says I have used them all up even though I have only used two. If I had known I wouldnt have wasted one of them on Oralloon πŸ™„
  2. Nothing fishy about my knickers ya cheeky bassa. I keep a clean house. Fell off ?? Have you seen the size of my hips? So, where do all the odd socks go? I am certain more socks go in my machine than come out. I wonder if he could do something for my constipation while he is here . Might get a wee discount . Right, I am away to see Farcity, that kettle must be boiled by now πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ
  3. 😁 no , even we Paisley burds dont flush underwear down the toilet. We canny afford to. I was thinking perhaps an old pair of knickers had escaped from the washing machine.
  4. It was of course the plumbing, but the alternative makes me sound a bit more interesting ! 😁 My husband tried to find the blockage before we called a plumber, but he didnt have a plumbers snake just an old bit of wire he uses to try and solve all DIY jobs.. . I have booked Dyno Rod but they cant come till Thursday so I will buy a snake and give it a try before then. Even if it doesnt work its worth having for any future problems. And for prodding Mr Tidy when I want my glass of wine replenished. The house is about 100 yrs old, I bought it new at that time..πŸ™‚ This is really helpful info thanks. I will get my husband to check the manhole , he should know where it is as he spends most of his time down it hiding from me. This information will make me sound a bit more knowledgeable when the guy comes on Thursday if we dont establish where the problem is before then. Drainage is a bit of a minefield.
  5. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ Thanks everyone for your contributions and suggestions. I think the camera thing is the way to go initially , to see what it turns up. This could be more worrying than a rat if its an old item of underwear. It may be pricey and messy but its still preferable to dysentery in a pandemic.
  6. πŸ˜‚ I wish it was, he lives a few streets away . That would be convenient !
  7. Thanks Fairbairn. I think it probably is a drainage problem , just don't know if it is drainage issue due to a blockage from a general build up of gunk, or if it something different like your situation . The plumber put the fear of god in me. I was of course joking about the jobbies coming up the plughole but he mentioned there is a lot of problems with vermin just now as there has been so little spare food on the streets that rats are getting desperate. He may be talking a load of shit but it does happen , rats were eating through the plumbing in the last place I worked. We got work done in the kitchen and plumbing was changed but that was 4 years ago and we havent had any issues till now so hopefully there are no problems arising from that. Its typical , I only renewed my home insurance a few days ago and with a different company, if it is drainage and I need to claim they will think I am at it. I might just need to try the high power jet first of all and hope it works. Like your picture of Ally btw 😍
  8. Any plumbers on here that can give me some advice . The water from the shower tray hasn't been draining away properly for a few weeks and after trying things like caustic soda and Mr Muscle I had to call a plumber. He used industrial unblocker but it hasnt helped. The problem has got worse, the dishwasher isnt always draining away and is leaving stagnant water, and yesterday when the washing machine was on the water was coming up through the drain in the shower tray. It drained away but my shower is covered in fluff. I called the plumber again and he said to get a jet wash or whatever they are called. He recommended someone who charges Β£140. But i have no idea who this guy is, the plumber took 80 quid for putting some cleaner down the drain which didnt work , I dont want to throw more money down the drain. I need to get it fixed fairly fast though, I dont want to be in the shower and a rat pops up through the plughole , or worse still Mr Tidy’s morning jobby. Is the jet wash the best way to go and can anyone recommend anyone in the Renfrewshire area?
  9. Check you mr professional runner ! I am well impressed. Keep it up , you are far more likely to stay with something if you have a plan . Unlike me you have goal to achieve. I am just trying to stay alive πŸ™‚
  10. It took a while. But probably not as long as it would take us both to run 5k πŸ™‚
  11. If anything good has to come out of it (apart of course from the current situation being rectified) is that more people now have more knowledge and detail on this system and hopefully put pressure on for things to change. The right for every child to have the same chance in education is surely the one thing most people can agree on.
  12. I wasn't meaning that the exams being cancelled was the issue, I was meaning that with the exams being cancelled they had been left with a situation that was totally unprecedented and due to that I would cut any government a bit of slack. If the reason for the U turn was down to the threat of no confidence and not because of the general outcry then you are right, it has achieved something . Unlike the Tories and Labour , the Greens were only going to endorse the vote if the SG didnt make things right, no doubt that has had some influence. As you say , ensuring the pupils are not disadvantaged is the primary concern at this time . Thereafter , if anyone has to be held accountable steps can be taken to investigate and address this.
  13. I was referring more to taking advantage of the situation about a decision that was made in a pandemic, the first time in history that school exams have been cancelled. I have no problem at all with politicians being held to account generally, infact it is to be encouraged, but I would cut ANY government a bit of slack in situations like this. Maybe I am too soft. I think I have made it clear they are wrong, and if they were point blank refusing to waver from their stance then I could see the justification . But to table a vote of no confidence before anything is even offered by way of correction is pretty petty to me . If that makes me partisan then so be it.
  14. They got it wrong without a doubt , but the vote of no confidence being tabled by opposition parties is pretty shabby and opportunistic.
  15. I am not entirely convinced there could be an uplift of 20% of pupils passing the exam, but I didn't realise it was a bell curve type ranking. FFS . That is bad enough in the workplace when used for calculating a bonus structure, but for school exams that is totally wrong.
  16. Would you not expect a small increase though ? Pupils are being examined on course work etc from throughout the year rather than the pressure of a final exam. That in itself would represent a small natural increase as a number of kids struggle with exam conditions and probably do not perform as well as they are capable of. I do have a problem with the way in which the teachers grades have just been overruled in order to fit into a historical matrix. But I think this is a lazy approach more than deliberately trying to target disadvantaged pupils. There is a problem with the 20% increase in passes in disadvantaged schools, surely no one really thinks this is possible in 1 year. But a general downgrade is certainly not the answer.
  17. β€˜Soft focus’ only for over 50’s .
  18. Aye well dont expect any from me I wasted all my best stuff on you lot on my cooking thread , look at the nick of me , I am jiggered. Canny even pop a cork.
  19. Only in the door 2 minutes and I am getting hit on already. I thought this was a respectable joint Farcity, get yer house in order. I will put it down to Killies over exuberance at todays result, but dont any of the rest of you try anything. Okay 😑
  20. πŸ˜‚ there are so many ways to reply to that, none of which are suitable for a lady of my standing..
  21. Are women allowed on this thread, I have brought a bottle just incase.
  22. A very interesting question Farcity. A quick google search would suggest even google doesnt really know who peter was either. There is a connection to an old prospector in the USA during the Gold Rush , who, when things were going bad, said β€˜when my mineral petered, why they all petered me’ ., Alternatively there is this β€˜Another suggestion is an allusion to the French word pΓ©ter (to break wind - literally to explodeβ€˜. I suppose there could therefore be a tenous link to , peter, St Peter and the Mighty Celtic thread πŸ€”
  23. I am delighted to see my thread resurrected, especially to save Farcity from a near certain death . Not only that, it has given Orraloon the opportunity to showpiece his science knowledge, and take his mind off those darned overpaid teachers for 10 minutes. In fact I think I could be in line for the β€˜ most valuable thread of the year’ award. πŸ’ͺ
  24. Seems it will be a similar issue in England, difference being it looks like they will be able to sit the exam if they are not happy with the grade they are given. Though I imagine that will still be too late for anyone hoping to get into Uni or college. What about the rest of the UK? Pupils in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will find out their grades later this month, with A-level results to be published on 13 August and GCSEs on 20 August. As in Scotland, exams were cancelled this year and teachers were asked to estimate pupils' grades. The watchdog Ofqual says the number of students getting good grades in England is expected to be 2% higher at A-level and 1% at GCSE this year. The predicted grades suggested by teachers would have been far higher, but were knocked back down by exam boards. Students who are not happy with their results will be able to sit exams in all subjects in the autumn .
  25. She already does this exam marking, she has been marking the papers for the last few years, I mentioned it in my first post. That is why I said she knows what the SQA are looking for and why she was pissed off so many of her pupils were downgraded.
