  1. Cheers mate. Let's wait for the dust to settle and see where we are. I think that's what Strachan is probably doing. If he believes another candidate could do better then he'll probably call them up himself to offer them the job. I'd expect he'd probably also come to the games to cheer them on too.
  2. I know - I was just playing up to the part. I agree he was decent. But Donkey Dave was his nickname nonetheless.
  3. I'm out of here. Take care and I respect all viewpoints. One of the many reasons I love being a Scotland supporter is that you can have a Rangers supporter hugging and jumping up and down with a Celtic supporter and neither of them would have the faintest idea of the others religion or club loyalties. Where else in the wonderful world of football would that even be possible? Where else in the world of football can bridge that divide? Only Hampden Park can do that. C'mon Scotland!
  4. That's overly harsh I think. He was only seconds away from beating England. Plus got 2 goals against Slovenia who were evidently on a mission. And everyone else got zilch!
  5. Spot on. I feel the exact same. He feels the pressure to deliver the glory days. That makes throwing the dice a bit tougher I think. I would hope he finds a happier medium next time round (fingers crossed there is a next time).
  6. He's been building from rubble so 2 years is about right. And what makes you think qualification should be easier than it is? Look at the players he has to pick from. What manager and what players would you propose?
  7. Do you remember the five nil drubbing we got from Portugal? One of the pundits that night was WGS. He sold me way back then that he both understood our limitations as a footballing nation and also that he had the drive and determination to do something about it. He was angry with the result - angry at the situation. He had the demeanour of someone who wanted desperately to right that wrong. He's not only a Scotland manager. He's also a Scotland supporter. He's genuinely one of us. If he believes there's someone better he will walk.
  8. Probably not, but I notice you neglected to point out that I called you passionate. A bit of an insight that. Quite a negative response, but I take your point. As I'd replied to another post earlier, I'm only trying to bring some balance to the force. About not bringing in more youth, I agree he could do more. I'd like him to give Burke an extended run for sure. He's got the potential to bring a bit of class. As does Gauld who I'd also like to see in the senior team for a bit.
  9. Scott Gemmill. He's the best placed successor, but only after at least one more crack at it for Strachan.
  10. Good point. At the Slovakia game at Hampden last week the guy who sits next to me pointed every bad Bannen pass out and at the end I was pretty against him playing against Slovenia. Turned out he was one of our best players against Slovenia. Go figure. I've been reading posts on here for so long- loads of them yours, but have only now felt compelled enough to chime in on something I feel is very important. I'd like Strachan to take a possible successor as assistant. I am not comfortable with someone turning up and taking over without some kind of background in the national set up. Andy Roxburgh had Craig Brown and things went from decent to decent again.
  11. Just trying to bring some balance to the force mate.
  12. I hope he hears from the realists who understand the reality of the situation and the value of his work, more than those driven by misguided disappointment who are lashing out at the moment. If he'd got us to the playoffs he would've been treated like a god. He was only just a gnats wing from being god. That's pretty close. Not close enough for some. I understand they're passionate and feeling hurt, but I just want to have at least a decent chance of qualifying for the Euros. With Strachan we know we would have that. With someone else we might not.
  13. I would bet on him playing more of the likes of McGinn in some friendlies next year. He'd work on broadening the pool and working up more competition for places. But he also needs to pick players based on the opposition, which is where sometimes physique out scores talent. That's just how it is. He's proved before that this is an unavoidable measure required to get results sometimes. It may not be pretty but it works.
  14. Still wouldn't want him and Malky McKay going for lunch time beers then driving our national teams straight through a roundabout! I just dont see Allardyce as Scotlands manager.
  15. You're kidding, right? Where are these better quality players who you think should be playing? No disrespect but we can't always blame it on everything else to try hide the fact that we are not gifted with brilliant players. But we are gifted with the ability to play brilliantly as a team, and that's why Strachan is irreplaceable at the moment- because he is capable of making not so great players get us some great results. We beat Lithuania in Lithuania 3 nil. England only got 1 nil. Nobody scored against Slovenia in Slovenia. We scored twice!
  16. That's pure mince. Funny mince.
  17. Strachan would've been slaughtered if he'd played an inexperienced player in such an important game who then choked under the pressure of the occasion. First half he got his tactics right. Second half was iffy to say the least, but hardly enough for him to be effectively sacked as some here would like him to be. We need Strachan to continue. He might not be perfect, but you can't deny the quality of his leadership. He loves Scotland. He loves leading Scotlands national team. He loves his players and his players love him. He has built a tight-knit squad who are capable and hungry to succeed for him, and for us! He is now very experienced at an international level and he has built international experience in the youngsters in his squad. To throw all of that away right now would be very bad for oor lovely wee country... Strachan is the man for Scotland. Nobody is better for Scotland than Strachan. I know some will disagree. But I know more will agree. I will likely only hear from those who disagree but hey- that's just how the internet works!
  18. Now that statement I DO agree 100% with! He was quite simply shocking.
  19. Yeah, you're right on that point. We don't have a great squad though - no disrespect to the players. They punched above their weight and my hats off to them for the way they managed to compete so well. I shouldn't have agreed 100%. It was the overall point in that we've done quite well with the resource we have that I was agreeing with.
  20. Agree 100%. Plus we scored 2 goals against a team who hadn't conceded any at home until we showed up in our unlucky pink shirts, so you've got to say well done for that alone! I understand how frustrating the situation is... but I think Strachan should definitely stay, no question.
  21. Take Coldplay off? No way! Griff is injured. We need to keep him on. Maybe swap him with Anya later on though.
