  1. Ppl watch man utd and can see mctominay isn't good enough. Mctominay should still be able to play well in poor team. Ppl Making excuses for him are just deluding themselves. Ppl did the same with gilmour at Norwich even when gilmour was playing brutally bad. You have to take the tartan specs off and look at it from a man utd fans perspective. Mctominay just doesn't perform consistently well enough to be a starter for a club like man utd. He has spells where he does well but also has long spells where he plays poorly. He actually wasn't that great for Scotland until the euro campaign where he basically turned into a goal machine overnight for us.
  2. I Never said that it did. End of the day the thread is about Scottish players in action for their clubs. That means discussions on a players club form will take place in this thread. Your point is irrelevant, if you don't want ppl discussing a players club form then you should avoid this thread.
  3. In terms of stature they are a champs league club and should be challenging for the league title. Mctominay isn't a player who will help them do that. Hes maybe not the worst player at man utd but he's certainly a player that most of the fans would want to sell and replace with someone better. He's always getting slagged for his performances on the man utd forum and truthfully alot of it is justified. Saying that hes been scoring goals and has looked a bit better recently but I still think it's not quite enough especially when you look at his overall career at utd.
  4. Well the truth is he probably isnt good enough for them. Man utd have loads of players who are not good enough to challenge for the title. They need to replace most of their team with better players.
  5. Well mctominay is our player. Hes hardly gunna start a discussion on Luke Shaw or rashford as that would be irrelevant to Scotland fans.
  6. As brilliant as hes been for us in the euros campaign I have to agree that hes probably not good enough for a top 6 epl side. Hes scored a few recently for united but overall his career there has been full of average/poor performances. United are a mess in general right now.
  7. They must be desperate by the time they are playing him at centre back.
  8. I think Christie has always been a hard worker with incredible stamina. He tackles and battles hard most games as well and has good ability on the ball. Playing the deeper role in midfield might be an option for Clarke especially if we get injuries to the likes of McGregor and gilmour. The upcoming friendlies would be a good place to try him out there.
  9. With good coaching and more first team experience his defending will get better imo.
  10. Why would them both being left footers be an issue. Dont think using the same foot has ever been an issue with central midfielders. I can see your point about wanting a defensive minded midfielder in the side but I think Christie is multifaceted and could do the defensive aspects in midfield. Hes always been a good tackler and good at winning the ball back. He's got heaps of stamina as well. I think he could perhaps add a bit of bite in midfield alongside either gilmour or McGregor.
  11. Eh? No it wouldn't. Both McGregor and gilmour start matches together and they both play a similar role in midfield. I am suggesting Christie partners McGregor instead of gilmour. Christie is quite tenacious in his tackling and has endless stamina. He seems to be playing well in the deep lying midfield role at Bournemouth so why not see if he can do it for Scotland. Maybe even try him next to gilmour if McGregor gets injured. If either McGregor or gilmour gets injured then it's only McLean that can fill in unless we want to play mcginn or mctominay in the deep lying role but that's unlikely given how much goals they get in the attacking midfield role.
  12. Maybe bet to give Christie a chance in the deeper midfield role next to McGregor in our friendlies. He seems to be doing well there for Bournemouth.
  13. Seems like Mellon might have some potential. I think a full season at Morecambe might be a better option rather than moving in January to some league 1 side. He can easy do that next season and only be 20 year old.
  14. Our epl players seem to be doing well right now. Hopefully they keep it going through to the euros. We want a squad full of confidence and guys in form.
  15. I have only counted the guys that are getting a regular gametime. Not sure what numbers Hungary and Switzerland would accurately have but it seems like swiss have slightly more than us and the Hungarians have slightly less than us. I am willing to concede that it is slightly harder to make it in the epl these days than in ligue 1 or the bundesliga which means theres a bit more value being an epl player. Some of the Hungarian and swiss players who play in the other top 5 leagues may not be good enough for the epl and us having lots of epl players is a bonus in terms of them playing a very high standard every week.
  16. Even with all the money in the top leagues there is still preference for clubs and players in certain countries to continue on the tried and tested route when it comes to neighbouring countries. Why do you think we have 12/13 players in the epl rather than the bundesliga or serie a. Both of those leagues could be raiding the spfl for players but they don't. Even back in the 90s when the epl wasn't massively richer than the other top leagues Scottish players were being bought up by English clubs rather than foreign ones. One of the main reasons is close proximity to home, similar culture and the same language. Theres plenty of clubs in la liga or serie a that can afford Scottish players but they don't buy them. Historically Hungary and swiss players have always played more in the other top European leagues than the epl. Surely you can understand that comparing how many players we have in the epl with Switzerland or Hungary is unfair when most of their players are going to be playing in the other top leagues which are still very rich and have a good standard. Your point about the epl being able to afford foreigners is moot as well. All the top 5 leagues can afford to buy the best from around the globe these days but they still have their preference with regards buying local(neighbouring countries). The epl will always snap up Scottish, Welsh and Irish in the same way serie a snaps up Yugoslavians. Also where are you getting your numbers from with regards Scotland. I don't count 24 of our players playing across the top leagues. Theres about 12/13 playing epl and 1 in la liga and 2 in serie a. That's about 15/16. I count about 8/9 for Hungary but thats going by Wikipedia. Maybe theres guys they don't call up that are playing in the top leagues. Also you haven't included Germans playing in the bundesliga. You still have to be a excellent player to play in Germany regardless of wether you are German or not.
  17. The quality/standard isn't massively higher in the epl plus history and geography does still have an effect. Swiss and Hungarian players are still more likely to be snapped up by clubs in France, Germany and Italy than English clubs. Theres a reason Scottish, Irish and Welsh play mostly in England rather than in those other leagues and thats because the epl snaps up players from the home nations and always has. Same way Italian clubs snap up players from the Yugoslavian nations. A better gauge is how many play in the top 5 leagues from each country. The swiss score pretty high on that and obviously the Germans easily number the most. I think us and Hungary are probably similar.
  18. Not sure that proves anything really. Germans will mostly play in the bundesliga as it's a top league. Same way most English players play in England. Hungarians and swiss will mostly play serie a, ligue 1 and bundesliga. Theres a history of them playing in those leagues much like Scots and welsh playing in England. We should always outnumber those two countries when it comes to players playing in the epl. It would be worrying if we didn't.
  19. Recently we have done ok for goals but that was down to mctominay going on a crazy run that I don't think any of us or clarke would have predicted. If that dries up we are in trouble. Mcginn is our only real goalscorer. Adams and dykes chip in but not as much as you would hope considering they are strikers. I can understand ppl not wanting Barnes based on eligibility etc but lets be honest he would improve our squad and is probably better than any winger/forward we have.
  20. I don't trust some websites opinion. Hes got 36 goals and 26 assists in 152 games in the epl. That tells me hes an attacking threat. He scored 13 in 34 league games for a team that got relegated. Have you actually watched some of his goals and assists or asked Leicester fans if they think hes a good player? We could easily play him upfront. Hes a better goalscorer than any of our strikers. Also we relied heavily on mctominay being on a purple patch for our goals. If that dries up then we are in trouble. Scoring goals has historically been a problem for us.
  21. Yeh those guys being fit will greatly improve our chances of getting out the groups.
