I'm mulling over buying the 96 and 98 (home shirts) from DHGate.

It states that delivery will be between 9-25 days. I've sent the seller a message, just for clarification.

Oh. If anyone is planning to spend $25 (£17.67) use code: DHAFFMJ2 for $5 (£3.53) off.*

*You have to be a new customer, though. So just do as I did and set up a new account with them.

The Euro 96 and France 98 ones arrived today. One with lettering and numbers.

Just washed them, so I haven't worn them.

The 98 top has a few bobbles. Buyers beware. I've messages the seller, I'll probably be given a partial refund.

Oh well. It just looks "vintage".

    Not bad for £23.90.

Fuck all wrong with me mate. This place has been great the last couple of days.

Something is clearly wrong with you as well as just having the same banter.

This makes me think of Nadal and his Dad. I remember reading that his Dad always pushed him hard and focussed on the negatives, and how he could improve, rather than coddling him. So, basically Gilmour will be in the top 3 best players in the world, just like Nadal. Conclusive.

Yeah. I was thinking the exact same thing. It's the same with the Williams sisters and Tiger Woods.

    I like that conclusion. ;)

Hopefully Billy's younger brother turns out to be another maestro. Imagine. It would be like Denmark and the Laudrup's.

  4. Taking the knee has nothing to do with any movements or organisations.

I actually watched the match when Colin Kaepernick did it for the first time during the American national anthem

Taking the knee is a way of protesting against racial injustice and oppression against Black people. Nothing more.

We all know why England fans boo it.

And hey, if us taking the knee gets up the nose of the England fans, all the more reason to do it.

  5. GARETH SOUTHGATE pens opens letter to the nation ahead of the Euros: Playing for England is about much more than the result. It's about how we bring people together, how we inspire and unite

Gareth Southgate is a good man, but he's dealing with, what are essentially, white supremacists.

I can't help but think what the black English players reactions will be as their matches kick off.

Unless the broadcasters mute their microphones, England will be a laughing stock and it'll bring back shades of the 80s.

Have we got anyone who’s likely to start games who’s ever scored any free kicks at club level?

Who do you think would take a pen if we got one in a game?

Free kick? It's a problem. I've never seen McTominay take free kicks for Manchester United.

    I don't know.

Penalties? We've scored 10 out of 10 in penalty shootouts, so I don't think we have a problem in that department. ;)

I'd say: 1st Dykes (scored a few for QPR and then McGinn.

How’d ye ken am no already wearing it?

Well, it is 2021, I suspect there might be new straightjackets that have a speech and spell function on.

I like you. This place is freakin' paroid as hell! I love it. Is it any wonder I don't stay away. It's hysterical.

But yeah, accuse me being as many people as you like. If the mods care, then neither do I. :)

You think folk care about your posts? Most folk have you on ignore on here, son. Am a bawhair away from doing it myself.

Am not making anything up. Bandying about words like “loon” is hilarious when you are the guy that has conversations with himself. I know it, you know it and everyone else knows it. Sad really.

Anyway, why don’t you tell us yer predictions again? Am no sure twice was enough.

There's an empty straitjacket somewhere with your name on it.

    Scotland 1-0 Czech Republic

    England 1-2 Scotland

    Scotland 0-0 Croatia

Final game will be a snooze-fest as both teams already through.

    Yeah. No one cares, Dave.

(See how I can make up things, too? But I'm doing it in jest, as I'm not a thundering loon)

Oh wait. You predicted we get 7 points? I predicted that we get 7 points.

    Are you me?

  10. Another ingredient is politics.

I mean, how are the black England players going to react when there's booing everytime they take the knee?

They've done it in their two friendlies.

By booing, the England fans might as well make monkey noises and throw bananas on the pitch. It won't be nice for the black players.

It would've been nice to get roverboy's opinion. Unfortunately, he was bullied off the board.

(Trust me, if roverboy was really me, I'd never leave as easily as he has. Out of sheer spite)

When you see that it really puts that nonsense debate of "they are too young" that we Scots seem to be obsessed with into perspective. England are ranked 4th in the world and have lots of youngsters in their squad. We shouldn't even be considering age when talking about the first 11 anymore. Our final 26 are all there on merit, so have proven they are old enough already.

Yep. You saw what happened with Alan Hansen. However, remember, that United team had Schmeichel, Irwin, Ince, Pallister, Bruce, Parker, Hughes, Cantona, etc. It's true, age doesn't come into it, but you also  need old heads and experience.

I think that's the reason Maguire and Henderson are in the 26. Neither of them will see many minutes, they're just there to give the kids advice, etc.

  12. The 2018 World Cup England got unbelievable luck. The draw opened up for them. They scored 9 out of 12 via set pieces.

It's improbable that they'll score so many set pieces this time.

I feel this time their luck has changed, with so many injuries: Pope, Maguire, Henderson, TAA, Philips, Rashford, Grealish, Saka and Kane either pulling out of playing through the pain.

And the core of their players are kids: Mount (22), Foden (21), Sancho (21), Bellingham (17), Saka (19), James (21).

I get the impression that people are either ignorant to the aforementioned facts, or they're just being deliberately obtuse for the sake of being argumentative and contrarian.

Hope the pro Gilmour sentiment doesn't start to turn into an anti Mcgregor sentiment. Starting to feel like there's an element waiting on Mcgregor making a mistake to force Clarke into playing Gilmour.

I'd probably gamble with Gilmour but the reality is that Mcgregor will start against the Czechs. Will be a downer if our first game in a major tournament for 23 years is remembered for fans getting on the back of one of our players.

    Agreed.

I'm against us giving any Scotland player a hard time... without due reason.

I may not be a fan of Armstrong or Adams, but it's time to put politics aside and support the entire team. That's exactly what I'll be doing.

In fairness to McGregor, it was Turnbull who lost Depay and failed to track him afterwards.

While the goal was Turnbull's mistake, you can't really blame him as he isn't a CDM and he is only 21.

On CDM, While Ryan Jack isn't a great player, he is our best CDM and central midfield isn't always about the best players, it's about the best some of their parts.

We need to find a midfield that works best for Scotland. Tbh I'm not sure who is involved or where they play, but it probably won't be McTominay at LCM, McGinn at RCM or McGregor lying deep centrally. They all had poor games and really didn't suit the roles they had to play.

I'd have McTominay at RCM, McGinn at CM/CAM and probably Gilmour at LCM.

If it was just about playing the best players in midfield then England wouldn't have failed as miserably with Gerrard, Lampard and Scholes.

Yeah. It was Turnbull. I wasn't blaming McGregor, this time. ;) Just highlighting that the pivot has to be more aware.

Agreed. That's why I wanted Graeme Shinnie in the squad. Best player? Certainly not, but at least he can smell danger and he has a certain amount if football intelligence.

Yeah. It was an off colour performance. I'm sure if we watched it again then it wouldn't seem quite as lacklustre. But yeah, I agree. One positive is, even when we look off the pace, we still look sturdy. Might not seem like much, but sturdy can take you a long way.

    Yep.

Every team does need a player to distribute the ball. But at international level there just isn't room for players that bring just 1 attribute. Do I trust McGregor to fight to the death, track runners, or make challenges in front of the box when we are under the cosh? No. Whereas, I would trust just about every other midfielder we have to do that if required. Including the attacking mids.

McGregor is an attacking midfielder. He has mistakenly been placed in the wrong position for the last 5 years. But if he was only seen as an attacking mid, he'd not be selected, for Celtic or Scotland.

I did say I was going to lay off him as well, which I will do shortly, it's only because he is potentially in direct competition with a vastly superior player in Gilmour that it has become extremely relevant. But, I'll fully get behind him when he plays in the Euros. Everyone will be given a fresh start (by me).

Yeah. I wouldn't trust him to do those things, either. In fairness, though, I don't think any of our midfielders are good with the press. You seen it against Austria and Israel. All three goals we conceded could've been avoided if one of the pilot's pressed. It actually happened yesterday. Then there was the first Dutch goal, with no one filling the gap.

The anchorman position is a problem. As much as I like McTominay, he ain't a prototypical anchorman. Maybe Gilmour might be the answer.

Agreed. I've been saying that for years. He actually reminds me of Jesse Lingard. He takes pelters from United fans, whilst not playing his preferred position. He was at West Ham, playing an attacking role... bam! He hits form.

It's a good point. Gilmour will shine a torch on a lot of our midfielders that we thought were good, but pale when compared to Gilmour. It's a good thing, though, as it puts things into perspective.

  16. 1 is actually a terrific point.

No doubt that Steve Clarke is a top coach, but set pieces training can bridge a gap. England scored from about 9 set pieces in 2018. That wasn't a fluke.

Southgate studied NFL plays and he spoke with a lot of NFL coaches prior to the Word Cup, as each down in NFL is practically a set piece.

All credit to Gareth Southgate for being studious. Crazy to think that England reached the World Cup semi finals with only scoring 3 goals from open play.
