It's a contact sport. The Dane looked like he stuck out a leg to initiate contact and threw himself to the ground, never a foul.
The knee trod on and manipulated the foot, putting the striker off balance.
It went to VAR. The people that know the rules gave it.

Getting out of the group.

Good topic of conversation....
I would say both teams had two world class players ?
1998 - Collins and Lambert
2021 -Tierney and Robertson
Yep. All four were/are world class.
Best Scotland player that I've seen in the flesh. Just ahead of Collins and McAllister.
Especially Lambert. He was up with the best anchormen (with Dunga and Deschamps) in that era. Juventus wanted him after the European Cup final.

I have the match on TiVi.
There was no sign of it. Erikson was just running to receive the shy, he then just collapsed.
Initially I thought he swallowed his tongue. But then I saw the CPR and thought heart attack.
Hopefully he pulls through.

As much as I love the Euro 2020, the France 98 squad is superior.
It's hard to tell, because back then it was only 22 players. We were also without Goram (didn't he walk out of the squad at the last minute? If memory serves me right) and McCoist, who should've been included.
It was a 22 man squad in 98 and 26 for 2020 squad, so I'll go in the middle and make a 24 man squad.
France 98:
Keepers: Leighton, Sullivan, Gould.
Defenders: Hendry, Boyd, Calderwood, Whyte, McNamara, Dailly, Weir, Burley, T.McKinley, Elliot.
Midfielders: Collins, Lambert, Gemmil, B.McKinley.
Strikers: Durie, Gallagher, Booth, Jackson, Donnelly.
2020 squad:
Keepers: Gordon, Marshall, McLaughlin
Defenders: Hendry, McKenna, Cooper, O'Donnell, Tierney, Robertson, Hanley, Gallagher, Patterson, Taylor
Midfielders: McTominay, McGregor, Gilmour, Turnbull, Armstrong, McGinn, Christie, Fleck.
Strikers: Adams, Dykes, Nisbet, Forrest, Fraser
98/2020 squad:
Keepers: Leighton, Sullivan, Marshall
Defenders: C.Hendry, Calderwood, Boyd, McNamara, Weir, Whyte, Tierney, Robertson, Cooper
Midfielders: Lambert, Collins, Gilmour, McTominay, Burley, McGinn, Christie
Strikers: Gallagher, Durie, Jackson, Dykes, Fraser
98: 14 players.
2020: 10 players.
98/202 first XI:
Leighton
Calderwood Hendry Tierney
McNamara Robertson
Gilmour Lambert Collins
Durie Gallacher
1996: 8
2020: 3

Another way to look at is that the FA are embarrassed by their fans booing their players taking the knee.
Maybe the SFA expect the Scotland fans to also boo it, so it's a pre-emptive motion by scrapping it.

Italy. Now 28 matches unbeaten. 9 clean sheets in a row.
They're a definite contender.
-
Gary Lineker: "Excellent display by Italy. That will frighten a few people"
Rio Ferdinand: "Yeah, it'll make people sit and stand up."
-
Bit of a slow burner.

Urain is 21, so he must be quite rated to get a 4 year deal. I've heard he has trained with the first team quite a bit and injuries have stopped his progress.
Interesting move for Joseph. It's also probably the correct move. He wouldn't get gametime in the EPL and I'm not sure he'd get much at Rangers or Celtic either. Swansea have just released their main Striker (Ayew) and have a very good manager. I hope it works out.
They're a massive club, so it must mean a lot that they're willing to give him such a long deal. Hopefully he's exactly what we've been crying out for.
I've never seen him.
Definitely. We saw what a great season with Swansea did for McBurnie. He must be decent as the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal were interested.
Two to watch for next season.

Hmm, I'm not sure about that. See when you really, really dislike someone, then they go and do something that impresses you? Well, sometimes that can be annoying because they've done something you approve of, but you don't want to admit to yourself that you now admire them a bit.
And then what makes that worse is when you see someone you do like doing something you disapprove of at the same time - then you get exasperated and think "fuck, why can't you be like them?!".
I suppose.
I'm a little surprised that so many here are against taking the knee, though.

Very good move for Kyle Joseph.
Very much so.
I think he's been guaranteed a starting spot. The reason he rejected Tottenham was because they wanted him in the development squad.

Ewan Urain signs a new contract with Bilbao till 2025.
Kyle Joseph signs for Swansea.
Promising news for our u21 strikers.

It way predates that. Here's Martin Luther King and friends taking the knee in the 1960s.
If players feel the need to make a similar gesture against racism faced either by themselves or their colleagues, then I have no issue with that whatsoever.
For someone to want to boo such an act either makes them a racist or at best a total dick.
Spot on.

Using your logic flying a swastika is all good as the symbol originates from a Hindu symbol meaning "good luck".
That's a good point. The swastika has been ruined.
To be honest. I don't really care enough to continue.

Not sure how these things are calculated but surely we ought to be above Finland?!
Ummm... I would think so.
But according to statistics, not so much. But footballers is played on a pitch, not a statistical table.

"Burnley joined Manchester City in taking a knee as their match kicked off on Monday night, becoming the 20th Premier League club to show support for the Black Lives Matter movement."
Not sure if you've been living under a rock but fairly obvious it has everything to do with BLM.
Yeah. Just because BLM hijacked the symbolic gesture in no way means that they've controlled the original narrative.

Why take a knee when it's such a divisive gesture?
Why is it divisive?
It has nothing at all to do with BLM.

100% correct.
According the "The Analyst" who use Opta stats, England are 9th favourites to win the entire thing. I'd actually that that's just about right.
-
People are forgetting that the England fans will boo Flower of Scotland. No doubt.
In a way, this is a strange way of annoying them return. So I'm all for it.

Thought the McFadden team on the BBC preview last night was one I'd like to see, front two of Adams and Dyke, McGinn in number 10 role and Gilmour starting. Can't see Clarke doing that though.
Harsh on likes of Christie but he'd be a good sub on hour mark along with Fraser.
Skipped it as It was probably full of "England are going to win", etc.
I watched the Sportscene preview. I'm sure Shelley Kerr is a lovely woman, but when she had Craig Gordon in goals and insisted that Che Adams is better than Lydon Dykes as a lone front role, I came to the conclusion that she knows very little.
It's weird thinking that she was on the shortlist after McLeish left. *shudder*

That’s rich coming from the guy who posts the same drivel over and over again.
Anyway, I though I had you on ignore so I’ll need to check that and sort it so another thread isn’t needlessly ruined.
Yeah. 4.6 billion people have access to the net. But all of them are me.

Indeed.
It's a wee bit discerning that at least 5 people here don't think it was a penalty.
But hey ho, it's a game of opinions.
