I remember France 98 like it was yesterday.
It's amazing how sport (football) has a way of making you regress, as how I feel now is as I did back then. My stomach will be like a tumble-dryer prior to the match. Least it's not Brazil this time.
My advice to everyone (especially tournament virgins) is to savour every second of it, as it might be another couple of decades till the next opportunity crops up.

That’s why I’d probably find a place for Gilmour on Friday, particularly if he doesn’t start tomorrow and we don’t get the job done. How negative of me!
That Kalvin Phillips looks decent, but so do some of our lads.Come on, Scotland!
Boo! Negativity!
I think a unanimous opinion around here, that Gilmour should be in the first XI.
He does. Rice also made a number of important interceptions.

They’ve got a decent midfield, nothing great though. Modric still looked a class above anyone else on the pitch and in time Gilmour will be better than anything they have in the middle of the park.
3-4-2-1Dykes
Fraser McGinn
Gilmour McTominay
I'm going to shut up about us beating England now. 😛

I'd have thought that with home advantage for most games, England would rate higher than Denmark, at least, and probably Netherlands too. And I think Group F won't be plain sailing for the favourites...
Yeah. The data and statistics are purely based on the previous year's collective performances by players. Collected by Opta.
If you added in variables like home advantage, injuries, etc, the table might look a wee bit different.

In terms of BBC vs ITV.
The BBC have Richards, Ferdinand and Shearer. ITV have Souness, Keane and Gary Neville.
A definite win by ITV.

England didn't play magnificent football, they didn't need to. They deserved the 3 points.
The way that they pressed high and strangled the Croatia midfield has me slightly concerned.

What a player David Alaba is.
A week or so ago he was playing inside forward against England. Today, he's in the middle of a back three.
A great assist.
Tierney could very well be our David Alaba, if he isn't already.

No surprise Pandev gets the Macedonian's first tournament goal.
An early contender for most comical goal of Euro 2020.
37 years old and still class.

Can we all agree its dickhead behaviour? I will feel slightly embarrassed if we do that tomorrow.
By all means boo the Czechs during the game, but show some respect to their anthem.
We most probably will not do it tomorrow.
Friday, though? Expect Flower of Scotland to be drowned out with boos.

I am hoping we lure the czechs into a sense of security with a warm , breezy continental summer today, then hit them tomorrow with a 10 degree drop in temperature into a traditional baltic Scottish summer 😁
Yep.
Our freaky "summer" weather is our 12th man.
Sun, rain, cloud, gales and maybe snow over the vastness of 90 minutes.
We might as well count the W.

I would rather we played in 14 degrees tomorrow than 24 today tbh.
Fair point.
Find a stadium with a roof and air conditioning.
-
And why the hell aren't we playing today?
England are getting one day extra of rest. Hardly fair.
-
Hopefully the players didn't watch this match. Show them it after tomorrow's match. It'll just be a distraction.

His meltdown when Spurs got pumped off Chelsea in a final was hilarious.
Yeah. Saw that again last night.
Shearer couldn't stop smirking.

Jenas is always over the top in his praise and says what fans will want to hear.
And yet, Jenas is a hate figure in Englsnd.
No idea why, he's no worse than Shearer, Wright, Keown, etc.

That incident with a minute or so ago featuring Modric.
People say that football is a contact sport. It isn't. It isnt a contact sport anymore.

Don Hutchison sorting himself out
That's actually a great point.
If we had a young Don Hutchison it would have been a great addition. Too bad he was a bit of a hellraiser in his formative years.
As for Colin Hendry. As a person, I don't know. As a footballer, growing up he was one my heroes. In my opinion, he was the equal of Tony Adams, and that's a massive compliment. Adams is the best England centerback I've seen since Butcher.

England's energy has dropped have Croatia paced themselves better?...
Exactly.
Potentially punch drunk.
Croatia are playing their way into the match.

I'm happy to use it but this game is relevant to us so fair enough discussing it in TA Specific.
True.
It's the same with the other side of the board, with multiple political threads, but none in the politics section.

Can see England chasing shadows in midfield and in that heat it’ll take its toll.
Croatia 11/2 on Bet365 seems generous
Yeah. Not a great matchup for them.
Leeds United and West Ham vs Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

Since we're comparing, might as well look at England, since we're in their group.
1998/2020: England:
Seaman
Adams Stones Campbell
Neville Le Saux
Ince Beckham
Scholes
Owen Shearer
98: 10 players
2020: 1 playerShows you how much they've regressed.

Exactly what I was going to say.
Best game, by a mile! It could've ended 8-8.
I was surprised by how technically good the Ukrainians were. When they went 2-0 down I still saw them coming back.
The end score was probably the correct one.
