McGinn is a Scotland legend.......end of. First name on our team sheet and is a midfielder who has a strike rate comparable to Ally McCoist for us. Dropping/resting him is not an option. Scores goals, makes goals, wins free-kicks in key positions and hold up play is great.

I don’t think anyone should be considered undroppable but I certainly don’t think McGinn should be dropped any time soon. He would need to be seriously shite for a few games in a row for his position as a guaranteed starter to be in danger and his good performances for Scotland far outnumber his poor ones for that to happen.

  2. Adams is a good player. He’s had some average games for us recently but that doesn’t mean he should be nowhere near the team.

Dykes is clearly Clarke’s preferred striker at the moment but he didn’t play very well on Thursday night. Should he be nowhere near the team either?

We are not exactly overrun by excellent strikers so I don’t think we can be choosy enough to leave out a player of Adams’ ability.

I was never much of a fan of Adams until his goal against Denmark which he took like a top international striker. But ever since he has failed to impress. He tries hard, but only a journeyman striker, and not international class. Also he plays in support of the target man, and not the main striker himself. Dykes, Stewart, Shankland and Nisbet should all be ahead of Adams. Of that group I am confident Ross Stewart is the answer, good scoring record, mobile, good in the air at both ends, good hold up play, plus works his socks off, essential when employing a high press.

I really can’t stand this phrase. What does it even mean?

Are the Gibraltar players international class?

They didn't. It was  a  UEFA controlled tender. Channel 4 bid more money than Viaplay for England and Wales. Down know if they even put in a bid for Scotland. They should be getting asked why.

Channel 4 doesn’t show Wales games. Viaplay owns the rights to their games the same as they do ours but they have an agreement with SC4 which allows them to show the games with Welsh commentary (at a fraction of the price Viaplay paid for the rights I would imagine).

I doubt Channel 4 would have any interest in showing Scotland or Wales games because the viewing figures would be nowhere near as high as the figures they get for England games. I don’t think anyone will be asking them to justify this anytime soon.

It will be interesting to see what happens when the rights come up for sale again since Viaplay won’t be bidding again. Sky will probably get the rights back but hopefully it will be a free to air channel instead.

We need to start preparing for at least one of Hickey/Robertson/Tierney being out of the Euros. Probably Tierney. If we go to the Euros without all three, we're out in the group stage.

The chances of all 3 being injured in 7 months time are very low. We are cursed if that happens.

Tierney has twiglets for legs so I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed out but the other 2 should be fine.

I'm with you there mate. We had three shots on target the entire game and two of them resulted in goals. I even remember saying I'd take a draw now but I can't see it; about a minute later Dykes equalised!

It was a great result for us but if I was a Norway fan I'd be beeling. They were in control of that game and almost over the line but threw it away in the final five minutes, a bit like we did against Wales in 2012.

We certainly didn’t play well offensively (at least until the 86th minute) but I think Clarke had set us up to get a draw. If we had lost 1-0 we’d probably have been moaning that Clarke was far too negative but we won the game so we can’t really complain.

We had exactly the same number of shots on target as Norway did (and one of theirs was a penalty) and we had more corners than they did so for all their possession they didn’t exactly do much with it and got exactly what they deserved in the end.

Starting to look like Italy might need a playoff spot.

They are a shadow of the team they were 2 years ago. Incredible really. I still think they’ll finish second in their group though. They need to beat North Macedonia at home and avoid defeat ‘away’ to Ukraine in Germany. Even the other way round would do it. Still very much in their hands.

Would be typical if they did need a playoff and ended up being our pot 4 team though.

My fist games way back in early 80s were always full of Lion flags. I miss the mass of flags at games

I don’t miss getting whapped in the face by flags.

In my smoking days a guy once knocked a fag out of my mouth with his flag at Hampden and had the cheek to moan at me about the fag burn.

As Austria won last night, it looks like we might need 2 wins against Georgia and Norway to secure a Pot 2 place.

Definitely achievable and also no real pressure as would really just be the icing on the cake (would also be good for World Cup qualifying seeding as well).

We are still ahead of Austria on goal difference (only by 1 goal right enough) so 4 points will be enough to finish ahead of them as long as we match or better their result and score in Estonia in the game we win.

Estonia are bottom of the group but Austria only beat them 2-1 at home so hopefully they won’t beat them too heavily in Estonia.

It’s funny, we seem to have this knack of turning out great full backs when we struggle with strikers (and maybe keepers now).

What’s also funny is how often we are without 2 or 3 of them through injury.

Better to be without them now than at the start of the campaign or next June I suppose.

Portugal must be a serious threat next summer.

They are 5-0 up at half time in Bosnia as they continue to win every game in their group.

Their front 4 tonight is Ronaldo, Leao, Felix and Fernandes which means that Bernardo Silva and Jota are on the bench alongside numerous other very good players. Their squad is nothing short of ridiculous.

Probably means we’ll get them in our group.

Don’t see must chance of Fraser coming back into the picture.

Agree with most of the defence, Hickey, Patterson, Robbo, Tierney, Porteous, Hendry & McKenna nailed on, might be 2 from 3 from Hanley, Souttar & Cooper.

Not sure if Jack will still feature.

Would love to see Doak make it as we can be short of ideas up front, he’d give us something different.

Not sure if there’s room for Nisbet & Shankland?

Obviously, we’ll be praying for no injuries.

A lot will depend on what happens with the new manager at Ibrox. If he likes Jack and plays him regularly and if (it’s a big if in all honesty) he can stay fit then there’s no reason he won’t still be in the squad.

Clarke picks Jack just now when he’s not playing that much for Rangers so unless some other midfielders stake a claim then Jack has every chance.

2 wins and we are guaranteed pot 2 (I'm assuming Spain win both games and top the group!).

4pts will definitely be enough to beat 7 of the other group runners up but there are 2 who could finish with a better record. One of those is Italy but they will need to win at Wembley tomorrow. The other and by far the more likely, it would appear to me, to finish with a better goal difference on 19pts is Austria. They face Azerbaijan and Estonia away, with the former tonight. They currently have a +7 goal difference (2 behind us) but if they win both games that will go to at least +9. If we take 4pts obviously the minimum we could have would be 19pts and +10. I think it will be between the 2 of us should we only take 4pts. Interestingly they play their final game, in Estonia, on the 16th Nov, whilst we are playing in Georgia, so say we draw that game, we would come back to Hampden knowing we need to beat Norway by 2 or whatever. Equally we might know Austria have beaten Estonia by 5 and the goal difference is out the window meaning we have to beat Norway. Might still provide a bit of jeopardy for that game!

    What about Denmark/Slovenia?

Fair enough, I'd just made it to bed after a whisky fuelled celebration.

I wouldn't want to draw the Turks, especially not in Germany, would be like a home game for them!

I'd fancy a crack at Spain again, we've a score to settle after last week....

I think there would have been a good few whiskies sank last night all over Scotland and beyond.

Spain wouldn’t be the worst draw in the world. At least we know they’re beatable if the grass in Germany is long enough. 😂

Assistants just aren't flagging anymore if they're not sure so it's just ruining everything.

Aye I hate VAR but I doubt it’s going anywhere. I think what we need is full visibility on decisions. We should be able to hear what the VAR people are saying to the referees so we know what’s going on.

Two of our most important  results in recent years have been against Israel.

They have also beaten us a couple of times. If we never play them again I wouldn’t miss them but also wouldn’t be that bothered if we drew them in Germany although we could probably do without the controversy that would go along with playing them at a major tournament.
