In 1978 we lost three quarters of a world class defence. McGrain, Jardine and McQueen were 3 of the best defenders in the world at that time. Jardine did play in the second game, but he hadn't fully recovered from his injury.

And Willie Donnachie was suspended for the Peru game.

For Westminster, having spent over a decade watching Salmond and pre-Idpol Sturgeon occupying one of their colonial institutions like a couple of hungry grizzlies prowling around some poor frightened Canadian family's back garden looking for breakfast,

A good analogy that. And it was a long forseen issue that there was no-one coming through the SNP ranks with similar gravitas to succeed Salmond and Sturgeon.

It's not a problem exclusive to the SNP, many governing parties around the world have struggled to replace big personality leaders.

Humza is the SNP's Davie Moyes.

Love it that Ash Regan has the balance on power.  Hopefully Humza now has to come out and renounce all the gimpy deviant policy making of the greens.  The commy far left part of the party kicked out - no more gender recognition, no more drs, no more hate crime bill, and Ross Grier to pack his bags.

I wonder if she'll get her big thermometer now?

At this point we all know that Clarke loves the tried and tested. That’s for good reason tbf, but I can see 1 or 2 wildcards due to the squad extending to 26 and I would like to see Danny Armstrong from Killie called up. If Hickey does not make it I could see him starting RWB.

Speaking as a Killie fan I don't think Armstrong is good enough defensively to play that role at international level. Would be delighted to see him called up though, and he might offer something different in the final third. His assist numbers this season speak for themselves.

    Wasn't it Beckham with metatarsal.

    How could you forget!?  😂

    😄

We're both right, Beckham did his in 2002, Rooney in 2006.

I've asked this before, but how come England never seem to get serious injuries? Their top players like Palmer, Kane and Foden play for clubs that play a huge number of games right at the pressure end. Are they better trained or what?

How could you forget Rooney's metatarsal?  Front page news for about a month. Or Rio's knee. Going further back, Bryan Robson's head falling off on Spitting Image.

We have proven on our day we can win against top notch  sides in the last two years or so. For evidence of that look to our wins against Spain, Denmark and Ukraine. However, that was with us with a full strength side and everyone on form.

Getting a big result at a finals tournament when the opposition are fully focused has always been more difficult for us though. Hopefully this time we can do it for once.
