Surely if it's a celebration of 150 years of international football it has to be between the two teams who started it. That's the whole point of the match. Like it or not it's a fact that Scotland and England exported the game to the world. Brazil and Argentina certainly didn't. Would like to play either of these two countries but not in a celebration of the first international match.

England are just another team to me. Inflexible traditions are stupid in my opinion.

Conway looks to have matured nicely into senior football and is having a nice season. Having only got his U21 call up in September I doubt they would consider him near ready for a full squad camp, especially when there is an U21 game the same week.

Hyam looks a good shout on paper. I just don't see them calling in a 26-year-old whom I've never seen linked to the senior first team, although he has hit his stride by the looks of it in the last few years.

especially when there is an U21 game the same week.

The U21s do not appear to have any game scheduled.

Clarke's scout watched Hyam (and then teammate Michael Rose) just earlier this year whilst at Coventry. So he has been under consideration - https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-rose-hyam-kane-23014851

If Hyam gets promoted with Blackburn it will be very hard (indeed ridiculous) to ignore a central defender playing Premier League football.

Trying to pre-empt the squad for Turkey away. As I mentioned elsewhere, this is likely to be a B international disguised as a full international.

I would say that the vast majority of EPL players will be glad of the break, perhaps some players recently back from injury might need a run out though. Celtic have their Australia tour, so imagine no Celtic players. Seems like a decent opportunity for some of the less established internationals to get a cap and experience a camp, possibly break in some U21s, and get a look generally at the second-string players that we might need to call upon should we be hampered with call-offs. There's probably a chance for slightly more established squad members to break though as leaders (McKenna was captain for our Mexico friendly I remember).

Not sure on squad size, I've gone with around 21, given its only 1 game. Also for the sake of ease, I'm going to ban any of the tired old suggestions (most specifically Ryan Gauld, for example, which is never happening)

    GKs

    Kelly, McCrorie, Clark

    DEFs

Patterson, McKenna, Porteous, Kingsley, Doig, Gallagher, Cooper, Ramsay

    MIDs

Jack, Gilmour, Anderson, Campbell, Ferguson, McGinn

    FWDs

    Brown, Stewart, McKay, McBurnie, Shankland

Ross Stewart is injured. Mowbray said he won't be back before December.

There will be a few call offs but I highly doubt that will be the squad.

Dominic Hyam and Tommy Conway should be up.

Until you know the negative effects and depression that mental illness brings, keep your comments to yourself. Do you have a degree in medicine by chance? Yes, I understand why nanagers may be hesitant, but to say he is not the brightest is just down right cruel. The man clearly needs help, and I for one pray he gets it....

Ahem, Griffiths has been involved in unfortunate legal entanglements and morally questionable situations in recent years and still seems to be hanging around with his jakey mates.

I suggest that's why managers aren't "picking up the phone" for him. They don't want to be dealing with that nonsense.

  5. Anyone see Leigh Griffiths feeling sorry for himself the other day on the BBC ?

"Managers just urnae picking up the phone fir me." - Aye, but have you ever wondered just why that might be Leigh ?

The lad never was the brightest. Can't blame managers for finally giving up on him, he brings far too much baggage along with him.

That's quite the statement. Shankland will not score more than 25 goals this season. If he gets anywhere near that then he'll obviously be straight back into the squad.

Has any player not playing for the old firm scored 30 goals in a season this century? Genuine question. Griffiths got something like 28 for Hibs then was immediately signed by Celtic.

Wasn't sure if you meant Scottish non Old Firm players or not.

Englishman Michael Higdon has done it at Motherwell. Tommy Coyne has also done whilst at Dundee but of course he played for RoI.

But if you meant the most recent Scottish non Old Firm players to score more than twenty five in a season ....

Joe Harper of Aberdeen scored thirty three league goals in the 1971/72 season.

The late Alan Gordon of Hibs scored twenty seven league goals in the 1972/73 season.

Kenny Cameron of Dundee Utd scored twenty six league goals in the 1968/69 season.

If any of that is wrong then i am more than happy to see it corrected.

Why? 2 friendlies would allow some more of the fringe players get gametime and experience. Maybe a chance to try a new keeper.

By your logic we shouldnt bother playing 1 friendly.

Plenty of countrys outside of europe who might want a game.

Can I suggest then that a more constructive activity for you would be to compose a ten thousand word e-mail to the SFA about why you are so shocked and appalled at the lack of an extra poxy friendly.

Personally, I'm happy with just the one friendly.

Yeah, I get that but Arteta talks up all of his players, maybe I’m overthinking things, but being fit for around 30% of games is not a good sign.

Arsenal fans love him but i disagree with your “playing regularly in Europe” as some sort of positive comment as Arsenal normally make at least 7 changes from their settled EPL starting 11.

As for no shortage of clubs, I would imagine they would look at his injury record. Hopefully I’m wrong and Arteta is managing him well, if not he’s not going to get a move to bigger club than Arsenal.

    Just my opinion 👍

Injury prone players who nonetheless have proven themselves to be posses great talent (which Tierney has done) don't have trouble finding new clubs.

He'll have to take a wage cut to some degree but there are a lot of clubs in Europe that would be interested in signing Tierney.

Just as long as he doesn't end up on a season long loan back to Celtic. It would be deflating.

Long story but I’ve got an Arsenal season ticket ( wasn’t there today ) but it’s quite obvious that Arteta doesn’t fancy Tierney, Zivchenko  is his first choice left back now, he’s started Tomiyasu last few games because he’s injured.

The Japanese got a knock and taken off he brought on Cedric instead of KT, looks like he’ may have dropped down to 4th choice.

Mates of mine think Arteta thinks he’s a liability due to him being injury prone, not sure if the exact figures but he’s only figured in Around 30% of Arsenal games since he signed.

Arteta spoke warmly of Tierney only recently and said what a good player he thought he was. It's also worth remembering that he's playing regularly in Europe for them.

In any event, there would be no shortage of clubs that would be interested in signing Tierney if Arsenal did decide to move him on.

For me it's Stewart all day long before Shankland. Without repeating any stats or opinions on here if you where to put both players up for transfer right now, Stewart even while injured would get bids probably 10 times higher than Shankland.

Funnily enough, Ross Stewart's just might end up moving somewhere for absolutely nothing next summer. His contract is up at the end of this season and there is no sign of him at present singing another with Sunderland.

So is it just 1 friendly getting played? Surely we could have gotten another lined up so that we could give some more of the fringe players a chance to impress. Theres a feel good factor right now and i reckon most of our best players will turn up for this friendly even if its meaningless game.

One friendly was the right choice. Never play more than you have to.

It looks like the SFA were also having some difficulty in finding an European (or in this case Eurasian) opponent until they found Turkey.

Do you mean just the league or the league, domestic cups and Europe ?
