I've felt that as well, but I've tried to rationalise it.

Firstly, it's their 'big' thing. They don't get much sport these days and when they do they throw everything at it.....combine that with an almost cringing desperation to be 'uber British' and for many it starts to grate.

Secondly, and combined with that, for the very first time at an Olympics I simply feel absolutely no empathy with the concept of a 'British' team.

In 2012  I was cheering on Farah and the likes, but in the last 4 years I've had the concept of 'Britishness' shoved down my throat so often by the likes of the BBC that I now turn channel when the jingoism gets ramped up.

I don't wish any British sportsman ill, it's just that 'Team GB' is not my team.

    This.

Exactly how I feel. But you can't say it on Facebook or you get some brainwashed Scot/Brit having a go at you for being a bitter nationalist.

One of the most annoying things is the BBC's neverending need to build up average athletes into world class stars. Take yesterday. Jessica Ennis-Hill is no doubt a class heptathlete and would have competed at a high level in any generation. But look a bit deeper into Mo Farah and he's never come within half a minute of the 10,000m world record, and 15 seconds of the 5,000m world record. There's no doubt he is talented, but he's lucky that he's never come up against an athlete of the calibre of Gebrselassie or Bekele. Greg Rutherford on the other hand, as well as being an utter bawbag of a man, is truly lucky that he's competing in a generation that is at best mediocre. His top five jumps are the 118th furthest ever, 282nd, 432nd, 432nd, and 469th. In virtually any other generation he'd have been happy just being on the plane.

    Loads of folk will.

Whoever took 14 seconds off the woman's 10000M though is the most special athlete on the track though not Bolt. I thought that record was here to stay like the female track times from the 80's eastern bloc era.

Isn't Kratochvilova's record still there. And no-one has ever come near Flo Jo's 100m time.

Chris Forbes - We picked this one at random as it fitted in with our times.  Didn't realise he was Scottish and actually from Partick where I've lived for about 10 years! Tiny wee room but he was actually pretty funny with his show about asking people to describe him in one word.  As good as he was the best bit was the couple he asked to describe each other in one word.  "Fanny" and "Slut" were their answers!!

Ok, booked for tomorrow night. Better be gid :P

Michael Phelps bagged his 19th Olympic gold too.

Before these games he was the 43rd most successful nation in Olympic history. Think he might well move up this week.

No medal for her.  Probably for the best if it was going to be tainted...

The hypocrisy of the BBC and wider media is mind-boggling. Barely mentioning this. Heard one commentator saying 'We know she's clean. She's a Brit'. Really? Would you like me to name some? I can start at 'A' and work my way through the alphabet if you'd like. 'C' is particularly good.

I think when they don't show a replay of the event you fear the worst, but they say she walked to the ambulance. It was the same in the men's race Chris boardman is going nuts about it saying the hill was to dangerous.

Was watching it live and said right away to the wife that she was hurt bad. There's an alternate video on You Tube and the insensitivity of the cameraman is astonishing, although I suppose he's not allowed to touch her.

There are hidden nuances. I'm not sure what they are yet, but I'm sure they're there!

you seemed to be happy with it for 6 months? Plus you've taken it to another garage who you admit has done work on it.

I doubt the original garage will entertain any complaint now.

It did appear to be ok for six months, but things started to go wrong after that. The garage I took it to only replaced minor bits and pieces (a £30 job) but told my wife that the car had basically been put together with parts from other cars, and that it would require a major job to fix. They did the MOT in-house at then original garage so they've given an MOT to a car that isn't fit for purpse, indeed, I would argue, is dangerous. Tbh, I'm not goin for cash back, but I'm more worried about what they're selling other folk and am considering speaking to Trading Standards.

Anyway, went and bought old reliable today - Nissan Micra (from a reputable dealer). Cannae go wrong with them as a run around.

  6. Wonder if someone can advise.

Someone smashed into my car around Christmas and I needed a new one quickly, so rather than buy from a big dealer (usually Arnold Clark) I went to a smaller affair and bought a really cheap runaround. If anything went wrong in the first month I was covered. I had a small issue which they fixed.

Last week I thought there was an issue with the brakes, so my wife took it to our local garage for me. She was told that we'd been had, and that the car had been cobbled together. So he did a fix for us (it wasn't the brakes) but when I was driving it today it felt like I was driving on oil, pulling all over the road, making a lot of noise, and a wee bit smoke coming from the engine.

My question is - do I have any recourse? They sold me a vehicle that, to me, appears to be a death trap. The money isn't an issue, but I am raging at the risk they've put us at by selling a clearly dodgy motor.

  7. Just watched the game in a pub in England with my son and his pal. About 200 English and 15 Scots. Good-natured and nobody said anything when we started to celebrate. Oh what a night ...

A little chat man to man stands a far better chance of a resolution.

That's the first question you'll be asked if you decide to go to a tribunal. They don't want to deal with stuff that could be dealt with quite easily face to face.

I would guess now that he's done it once he may feel more relaxed about doing it again. And as is the case with bullies - if you don't face up to them they see an easy target.

Write down everything - dates, witnesses, everything.

  9. Ireland tonight reminded me of the Scotland team that played Sweden in the 1990 World Cup. That team came on the pitch against a highly-rated Sweden team (four years later they were World Cup semi-finalists) and within two minutes I knew we wouldn't lose. I could count on one hand how many times I've seen that level of passion from Scotland teams. Ireland show it regularly. Depressing.

  10. Just saw this on Robbie Brady's Wikipedia page:

"As of June 22nd 2016 Brady is well known for his header which knocke the feckin bejaysus out of Italy, in the UEFA Euro 2016, where the game ended 1-0 thus allowing Ireland to progress to the knockout stage. "

Agreed, great film, he plays the part well, very underrated film too. Always found it crazy it was allowed to be released before Jesse James Holywood's trial given it was based on that murder.

    Tragic sounding accident anyway, RIP!!

It is strange, but without checking, hasn't all other trials taken place, and Hollywood had been missing for some time. Not sure.

  12. That's a huge amount to spend weekly. Four of us and we spend £150 maybe, tops. Used to spend £20 a week on milk (sons drink loads), but Iceland and others sell it almost half price. In many cases brand goods doesn't always mean lower quality - although in many cases it does. You just have to try things out.

I found a good beating ends the problem ... After she'd finished with me I never complained about her spending again!

Cheers, lads. Still not 100%, bloody scary stuff. Absolutely gutted I missed it. On the plus side, when I came round it was like a dream hearing that. I see folk are saying Bruce had the cold and his voice was off - is that right?

His voice was dodgy at times, a couple of times I wondered if it was his age.

in reply to Stocky's point about the acoustic closer. It's become a thing on the last two tours. It was almost certain he'd close with Thunder Road or This Hard Land. Given he'd already played TR ...

Check Brucebase for tour info. Great website.

That was great. Hadn't been well for a while. Fainted midway through Sherry Darling and got carted out by paramedics.

    Jeez, hope you're ok mate.

Saw guys drinking at 9am when I turned up for the first roll call. Don't see the appeal tbh. I've experienced in and out of the golden circle and in is a much more enjoyable experience - people seem to accept you have your place and they can't steal it. Outside it's a free for all.

    Is he not 63 ?

    Nope, 66.

I've a friend who was a top level professional athlete who still competes. He's not a Springsteen fan at all, but even he praised Springsteen's ability to do what he does every night at that age.

Look at his contemporaries - Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, Steve Earle, Graham Parker etc - most either don't perform much or have pretty sedentary shows. Mick Jagger might still be pretty active on stage.
