The Brawler is a pretty decent film. It's about Chuck Wepner, who went 15 rounds with Ali and was the inspiration for Rocky.

Stan and Ollie was a really pleasant wee film. Both Coogan and Reilly were excellent. Well worth a watch.
The Dirt is brilliant. I'd never heard of it until I saw it listed on Netflix, and it's probably the best film they've produced. It's the story of Motley Crue. I knew very little about them, and don't particularly like the music I have heard. But that didn't detract from what is an excellent film.

Went back and watched the very first episode of Absolutely. It was pretty dire. Not sure how long it was before they introduced McGlashan, Stoneybridge and Shadwell. Calum Gilhooley was the highlight of the first episode.

Enjoying this so far. Muir was outstanding, and good stuff from O'Hare. Loving the Ingerbrigtsons, the oldest brother seems a bit crazy, but in a good way.
The screen graphics, however, are embarrassing - take every cultural stereotype - the Krankies, a See you Jimmy hat, haggis etc, and bind them together with the Eurotrash music. Who thought this would be a good idea.

Green Book. What a great film. Don Shirley, a black pianist, and his racist white driver and bouncer, drive across the country to various gigs. The film subtly shows the impact they have on each other. Should win the Oscar, but probably won't.

Just watched The House That Jack Built, with Matt Dillon as a serial killer. A bit odd, but a decent film. Well worth a watch.

Just picked up a ticket for Willie Nile in May - if you like acoustic Dylan, Springsteen.

But surely your TV could be used for gaming? My understanding is that it isn't the TV that's illegal, it's watching live programmes.
Anyway, cancelled mine a couple of months ago. It took me a long time to bite the bullet, but it was worth it.

It was Springsteen. He also didn't tell them the key they would be playing in and started in B flat, causing further confusion. He then proceeded to castigate two band members for 'playing too fancifully' and told Springsteen to stop playing lead - 'only Chuck Berry plays Chuck Berry licks'. He did praise Southside Johnny, telling the crowd - 'that white boy sure can play the blues'.
Taking it back a bit further I would say:

Yes, it's getting much more difficult to get a publisher to accept a book nowadays. I know one author who's widely published, and is a TV 'personality' who told me he had to 'pull strings' to get one book published.
My suggestion in the first place would be not to pin all your hopes on one publisher (or agent), but to write to numerous ones at the same time. Annoyingly they all want something a little different, so you have to tailor your submissions (which is time consuming). My advice about your submission would be to spend some serious time on it. You can write the Great American Novel, but if your submission is crap no-one of note will ever read it to start the publishing process.
You can get lots of publishers' details via the Writers and Artists Yearbook. I like to look at the online version as you can search for specific terms - non-fiction, fiction, Scottish etc. You can get this free at the National Library of Scotland.
Your other option is to self-publish. Obviously you'll need a solid marketing plan to make it work, but you need that with most publishers anyway, as their marketing budgets are pretty much all spent on the bigger names. Getting about 500 books printed will cost about £1,300, and you'll then have additional costs such as ISBN, editing, cover, images etc. But the rewards are potentially much greater; a publisher might only give you a 10% return per book, whereas self-publishing could be 50%.

I got lots of positives (which apparently they don't do just to make you feel better), but nobody wanted to take it on. So, I'm looking at possibly crowdfunding the costs.

Watched the first three series of Underbelly a few years back when it was on Sky. Got a streaming service recently and noticed there are several more series. So have picked it up at the fourth series, Razor. It's excellent - reminds me of Boardwalk Empire.

I play guitar (badly). Played in bands many moons ago and made a few recordings. If I say so myself, my voice is awesome 😂. I got up at a karaoke recently and I was surprised how well it's held up.

V Yugoslavia in the 1980s. Apparently Tam Cowan's first game too. Think we won something like 6-1. Pretty much all downhill from there.
Re Derek Johnstone scoring that diving header. Didn't he score two or three like that for Scotland at that time?

One of my favourite British sitcoms was Set of Six with Rowland Rivron. He plays sextuplets, each strange in their own way. It is absolutely genius. The supergrass and tramp episodes (Kathy Burke plays his drunk girlfriend in the latter) are outstanding TV. Virtually nobody watched it, but on YouTube if you get a chance.

Really interested in this because 1) the reviews have been pretty decent 2) Live Aid was so much a part of my youth, and 3) my niece is in it (just a small part - not even sure she's in the titles) after she and Malek got to know each other.

Amazing the roles he turned down because he liked doing what he was doing I.E. Smokey type films. For example, lead roles in Die Hard and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Apparently fired his agent for getting him the role in Boogie Nights which, imo, is one of his finest moments.

World Championships start tomorrow. Anyone going? I've got tickets got the second Sunday, and it looks like it might be Trump and Ding, but possibly McGill. Never been before, so looking forward to it.
