My son tells me the new character, Negan, is about to make things much, much more exciting. Think he comes into it tonight.

Saw a stat that said if you add their points from the last few games of last season to their points from this season they've got a total that would have won them six Premiership titles. That shows they're maybe not competing in the finest of years, but at the same time it's certainly not the worst of years. They're grinding out results, which is what champions do. Given their run-in they really should win it from here. Fingers crossed.

Cheers for that lads.

Quick question. I'm about to get my son a membership. If he gets a youth membership is he restricted to the east stand, or can he come into the north with me. Obviously if there are restrictions I'd have to get him an adult membership.

Apparently the guy he was playing had a weird hybrid Scottish accent in real life.
If that's the case then seriously, what a performance. Not only did he nail an accent, which is hard enough in itself. But he nailed the accent of someone who moved between two countries.

Watched Bridge of Spies a couple of nights ago. Mark Rylance's performance was outstanding and I can see why he won the Oscar. His accent, mixing Scottish with Russian was outstanding, except that he wasn't supposed to be Scottish, but from northern England (Whitley Bay to be precise). Am I missing something? Do they have a Scottish accent in Whitley Bay.

Anyone who watched the American Football on C4 in the 1980s might remember this:

This pair seem to have something of a history, but ramped it up after Jones' interview of Mhairi Black. Hothersall was being a bit of a, well, Hothersall, and Jones started to call him on it. He eventually says what most are saying but just don't have Jones' huge audience - that Hothersall and his ilk are exactly the reason Scottish Labour are in the state they're in, and their egos are blinding them to the fact.

Not a movie, but this always gets me:

Been off work with shingles and have watched a couple of movies I haven't seen in years. One was K-19: The Widowmaker and what struck me most was just how bad Harrison Ford's Russian accent was.
So what's the worst?
Gene Hackman's Polish in A Bridge Too Far?
Sean Connery's Spanish in Highlander?
Russell Crowe's English in Robin Hood?
Dick Van Dyke's English in Mary Poppins?

I went to Edinburgh and St Andrews and both were absolutely filled with middle class English students. St Andrews was far and away the worst of the two as it was around the time Prince Willie was there (walked past him once and didn't recognise him - someone told me later). Remember driving in on my first day and there was a 20ish guy leaning against a wall with a long curly pipe!
What really stuck out for me at Edinburgh was that those who clearly weren't rich were generally smarter students - not sure why, sticking in more? Obviously many exceptions, but generally. The private-school educated English students were also far better at bullshitting. I remember in one of my first tutorials listening to someone talk to the class and thinking they were way smarter than I was - they barely got 60% in their essays and I was hitting 70% every time. But they could bullshit.
Oh. and I was from a crappy postcode, although not aware of a single other person from my primary school year who went to any university.

Read on moneysavingexpert.com that as long as you don't abuse the system they don't have a leg to stand on, but as soon as you start to abuse it then they have a case they can argue in court. So, if you park there all day every day you are on a sticky wicket. But if you stay just a few minutes over the allowed time you're fine and shouldn't worry. Even a few hours is ok, as long as you don't do it repeatedly.

Was at the game that night, in the Celtic end. I swear the ball was heading straight for me before it was stopped by the net. A great goal, and difficult to compare it to McFadden's (which I also saw live) and say which is better. They were both big games, both big goals. So it comes down to personal taste. Personally, think the Dalglish goal, but that's probably more to do with the fact I was right on top of it, whereas for me McFadden was a speck at the other end of the pitch.

An obscure Steve Forbert album - maybe Little Stevie Orbit - from America. Was so internet-naive I sent my credit card details by email.

If you like Springsteen I'd advise going to see Fred Eaglesmith. It's a solo show, but he really is fantastic.

If The River album was a person it'd be diagnosed with manic depression - the swings from wild optimism to introspection are pronounced.
That's a decent analogy. It becomes even stranger when you consider that it lies between his two darkest albums - Darkness and Nebraska. But he has said it was purely to do with his stage show. He'd been recording similar type material for a couple of years, or playing cover songs like it in concert.

Playing the whole of the River double album? Don't go if that's not a favourite of yours!
An over-rated album in my opinion. People tend to rank it right up there with BTR and Darkness, but imo there are far too many weak songs that he put out on it simply to give him scope for a better live show. That said, there are some classics on the album and a single album would have been the way to go, with a secondary album perhaps for songs like Crush On You, Ramrod and Cadillac Ranch. Much like Human Touch and Lucky Town.

It is, but getting in the pit is the difference between it being a good and great show.

And an autobiography out in September!

They weren't quite so 'independent' during the referendum so, eh, good riddance.

Here's one on the telly just now. Classic stuff....
"Stay with me, stay with me, 'cause tonight you're going to stay with me. Stay with me, stay with me, 'cause tonight you're going to stay with me."
Early 70s.
Great song. Got it on my phone. Those were the days when Stewart was a genius. Then he found he could make money from stuff like Hot Legs!

With about a month to go in Dalkeith (ex-miner central) the SNP were out as usual. No Labour. Most interesting of all though was the appearance of a Tory stall, complete with butcher's apron. In all my years campaigning this is the first time I've seen them out in Dalkeith. They clearly think they are in with a chance.
Think the SNP will win an increased majority. Don't think the Tories will overtake Labour, but will close the gap. Think the Libs will gain unfortunately. The Greens might gain a couple at most.
