  1. From Greasy Lake:

"Go to the stadium, seek out the guys running the pit line (they will be sat on camping chairs no doubt holding marker pens). They will give you a number each, written on your hands. Assuming all works fine, that will be the order you walk into the stadium. You don't have to stop there, you do however have to come back for periodic roll calls, usually every 4 hours up to 10pm the night before and from I would guess starting 9am on the day off the gig. If you are not there for a roll call your name will come off the list. At some point on the gig day you will be given a pit wristband, that is assuming your name hasn't been knocked off for failing to attend a roll call. Once you have a wristband you can either leave the line, safe in the knowledge you have pit entry secured for later or you can stay in line and enter the pit in number order when they open the gates.

If you are not bothered about pit access, ignore the above and stroll up 10 mins before he comes on stage"

Will keep an eye out for you...

There's definitely a feeling about that this sort of tour won't happen much longer, though I think he's got a couple more left in him.

    Aye that's some sound check...

Saw the Springsteen Sessions band last night in Aberdeen - absolutely fantastic. The guy on sax was note perfect - well worth seeing.

Think the next tour is to be an acoustic one. In fact, this tour was meant to be acoustic, but I think he thought that he probably didn't have too many 3.5 hour shows left in him and wanted to do them while he still could.

Good stuff. We're heading down on a coach from Aberdeen early Weds afternoon so will be happy enough just being on the pitch - with that stage set up you're never too far away when you have a GA ticket.

Am also going to the Wembley gig on the Sunday after. Am likely to be there early afternoon, so  I don't expect to get anywhere near the pit but would hope to be close enough - the stage set up there is in front of where the goals would normally be.

I read something on Greasy Lake about a guy who's not missed a UK show since the early 1980s and was going for no 150(!) at the Etihad but was defeated by the traffic and had to turn back. Painful...

Grab me if you see me. If it's warm I'll be in a Yes t-shirt!

I know the guy who wrote the old Point Blank fanzine (runs it online now) and he's been to loads of shows this time round, both sides of the pond. When my kids have grown up I'm not sure Bruce will be touring anymore.

Btw, here the soundcheck for the first Croke Park show tonight - fkn unbelieveable:

THE TIES THAT BIND / SHERRY DARLING / DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN / ROULETTE / LOST IN THE FLOOD / SOMETHING IN THE NIGHT / BACK IN YOUR ARMS / HERE COMES THE NIGHT

Is that the script, Stapes? I've never bothered with the pit before, but I think this will be their last visit, so I'm going for it.

So, you go the day before? To where - South Stand? Can I get a number for my mate also?

    Cheers.

Thta's what happened last time. We turned up around 9pm and got our number. We went back at around 11pm for roll call. We then had to go back the next day at about 8am, 11am and 2pm (or something like that) for more roll calls. That got us to #154 in line, which in turn got us to second row.

The numbers were given out last time at the corner of the east and north stands, and you return there for roll calls. But you can't get a number for someone else. They need to get it themselves. I suppose they could get someone to do it for them, but I can't remember if the band they give you comes off or if you have to cut it off.

  5. It appears to be a greatest hits built around The River, with most of the slower River tracks taken out. I can live with that but hopefully the setlist will evolve over the next couple of weeks with a few rarities thrown in (Detroit Medley please!).

Anyone know what's happening with the pit in the UK? Last time in Glasgow it was first come got right to the front. Great system, so hopefully they use it again.

  6. First show of the Euro tour tonight. Interesting to see how the setlist pans out, with the full River album not being played. First 12 songs, looking very good:

    1. Badlands
    2. No Surrender
    3. My Love Will Not Let You Down
    4. The Ties That Bind
    5. Sherry Darling
    6. Jackson Cage
    7. Two Hearts
    8. I'm Goin' Down
    9. Hungry Heart
    10. Out in the Street
    11. I Wanna Marry You
    12. The River

  7. Harrowing stuff. A few things stood out for me.

    • The police sarcastically asking the parents of a dead boy if he was a virgin when told he didn't smoke or drink
    • Stuart-Smith laughing at the parents turning up late 'not like people from Liverpool to do that'
    • The inspector telling the PCs not to fill in their notebooks, and the sergeant telling them 'Fk him, fill in absolutely everything'
    • The police who were there were simply following orders (or no orders as it was) and suffered from PTSD afterwards. There was the one story of the PC who just started sobbing at the scene when asked how many were dead.
    • The sanitisation of the police statements
    • The scenes of kids crushed up against the barriers

Overall though, a perfect example of the lengths the establishment will go to to protect itself - from Thatcher, Straw and Ingham, on down to the police inspectors.

Even my 13 year old couldn't take his eyes off the screen, and he never watches anything other than YouTube.

I'm actually feeling a bit diassapointed tonight. The majority was very likely beforehand. I'd say no chance now.

Looking like 64, so stung by the Greens putting up a constituency candidate in Edinburgh. She took 4,000 votes and the SNP lost by 1,000. Although I haven't seen that regional list yet.

  9. Difficult to compare and contrast eras, but personally I think the Leicester win is a greater achievement than Forest's. Forest were playing in an era when teams without vast resources could win stuff and smaller clubs like Forest, Villa and Ipswich were capable of challenging for the league. And remember Forest bought the first £1m player, so certainly competing financially with the big boys.

I honestly think it's one of the greatest sporting stories of all time, and I don't think Carragher's piece was too ridiculous. The reason being that it was a sustained effort. Greece won the Euros, but only had to win about seven games. Buster Douglas beats Tyson and it's a single fight. England win the Ashes and it's a single series of games. Don't think any of these can compete against a 38 game season.

An incredible achievement. Really pleased for the fans.

  10. An STV reporter was quite clear who was to blame on the 6pm news (can't remember his name, but he chaired a couple of referendum debates and was generally quite even handed). He noted that it was the Tories who had first instituted this and Lab/Lib wholeheartedly ran with it. Not content with this he then went on to highlight the fact that the SNP was completely opposed. It then cut to Sturgeon re-iterating this. Fair play.

Everyone I know who has watched this has absolutely raved about it with more than one saying it's the best thing they've ever watched.  I finished season 2 last night and while I'm kind of enjoying it I could easily ditch it and not go back to it which isn't something that I could have said with the likes of The Wire, The Sopranos, Game of Thrones or the first few seasons of 24. Most of the episodes are struggling to keep me engaged for the full 45 mins and while it did pick up significantly with the introduction of Saul it didn't carry it on to the episode after.  2/5 so far.

Stick with it. After the first couple of series I'd expected more, given how much people were raving about it. But it does get much, much better. Imo the best series, in order of best first, are 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. After 4 I didn't think it could get any better.
