  1. Players that aren't in the squad -

    G: Gilks, Bell

D: Bardsely, Hanley, Wilson, Cooper, Caddis, Palmer, Wallace

M: Adam, Bryson, Dorrans, Mulgrew, McDonald, Boyd, Arfield, Burke, Mackay-Stevens, Armstrong, Jack, Gauld, Conway, Fraser.

    F: Griffiths, Martin, Watt, Maguire

I've seen weaker squads than that selected!!

It does clearly show where are strengths and weaknesses are.

You still banging on about Ross Wallace and Paul Caddis, you really do have a hardon for ex Celtic players don't you.

  2. Berlin every time, although Munich is pretty good as well.

I've also stayed in the Park Inn and can recommend it. Go up to the rooftop bar for some fantastic views of the city, I think there is a minimal cover charge.

If you want a little taste of Bavaria in Berlin, there is a big new Hofbrauhaus on Karl-Leibnicht Strasse, 2 minutes from the Park Inn.

  3. Your opinion is wrong. Lots and lots of examples too prove how wrong your are too.

I don't agree with that, I don't think that DBTA is saying that you can't feel Scottish - whatever that is - if you are brought up out with Scotland.

Even if someone is "brought up Scottish", out with Scotland by Scottish parents then as much as that influence would be important, the influence of friends would also be important.

If you are brought up in Scotland to Scottish parents then *all* your influences are Scottish.

  4. Surprised George Boyd's not in the squad. He's been playing regularly and playing well for Burnley, cracking goal over the weekend against Man CIty, better option than Forrest in my opinon. Also wouldn't have minded contray to many opinions seeing Burke in the squad, he's tricky and if Gibralter sit back I would have thought his skill might help unpick their defence. Surprised by Mackay-Steven's omission as well. Overall good squad tho' would still prefer Bardsley over Whittaker, shows we've got a bit of depth - if only we had a couple more decent centre halves.

I suspect that Boyd would be one of the older players that Stachan doesn't feel it's fair to call up if they've no real chance of playing.

  5. romanian and nigerian, that would be be a head melter. he was brought up in scotland/england so i guess he probably just feels dare i say it british haha

Pretty sure he feels 100% Scottish, at least as far as his footballing allegiances are concerned.

Not sure on his views on the referendum though.

  6. I'm sure there will be plenty of people trawling through the Internet and looking at his Twitter history for evidence of him saying he thinks Wayne Rooney's a good player or some other hanging offence.

  7. And already we have Jim Murphy on UK national news saying vote SNP get a Tory government and he'll keep saying over and over and over till swithering voters fall back into line. Anyone remember them saying they weren't going to go down the negative campaigning route again?

Judging by the groans when Deputy Dug trotted this out on Question Time last week, I don't think people are buying that line.

  8. There was a fair bit of recreational drug use where I grew up from the likes of hash and grass to acid, mushrooms and E and I dabbled a bit myself as a teenager. I don't think I've ever seen anyone sniffing glue though!

It was very much a late 1970s thing. Good article here.

There's a copy of that Evening Times front page in the Ramones museum in Berlin.

  9. Solvent abuse was a pretty big thing in the West of Scotland in the late 70s and early 80s. Something punks were into in particular and which had a lot of coverage in the press.

Never tried it myself but knew quite a few people growing up who were into it, in fact I remember being with a group of mates who were completely off their tits, got so bad that me and another non-participant had to climb up a tree to drink our bottle of Martini in peace.

What Murphy said was probably correct although I don't like how he tried to dress it up as a particularly working class thing but then hes always trying to portray himself that way.

Thing is, for the majority of people under the age of 60, if a politician denies taking drugs when they were younger, they either think their lying or were a complete sad .

  10. Sorry but that attitude stinks to high heaven (no offence). It is a qualifying match and considering we have qualified for sweet fanny adams this century we cannot aford to be complacent for one second. We treat Gibraltar with same determination and respect as if they were Germany and do a highly professional job and get the three points - not fanny around experimenting. Save that for the friendly.

  11. I had the misfortune to be stuck behind a fukin March in Clydebank yesterday. Don't know what it was commemorating, but one gent in particular looked resplendent in an orange hi viz jacket, a glengarry, kilt and a sporran that resembled a skinned badger. Strange when the OO are particularly self-loathing to anything remotely Scottish.

Where exactly do you think the majority of the Protestants in Ulster originated from?

  12. Not being abusive pal ??

Thought you winding me up with your post that Kenny was an underachiever !!

I wanted to check something some facts about his international career, so dug out my copy of his autobiography.

This is how he ends the chapter on Scotland.

I am not happy with what I achieved at International level. Then again, I helped my country to four World Cup finals, one of which I missed through injury. For a nation of Scotland's small size it was an achievement for us simply to qualify. But, if my self-belief had been stronger, maybe I could have helped Scotland to achieve more. It was such a contrast to my success overseas with Liverpool.

There you have it, the man's own words.

  13. I would agree. My first ever game was the Spain 84 game, he scored an absolute beauty that night. He scored a similar one in Belgium not longer afterwards but I do always remember there been a big media thing about him not doing as well for Scotland as he was doing for Liverpool. When you looked at him from Liverpool from 78 to about 84 he was outstanding, probably world class, but he never really produced that level for Scotland in that time period aside from, as you say, certain games and goals. He wasn't consistently great for Scotland and considering some of the diddy teams at international level at the time it could be argued that 30 goals was a poor return from 102 games. He possibly/probably had a far better team around him at Liverpool however? He was a good player for us but he could have been so much more.

Thing is - during the period you are talking about 78-84, when he was at his peak - it wasn't exactly a poor Scotland team, a fair few of his Liverpool teammates played alongside him and we had one of the greats as manager. It's really difficult to put your finger on it but there is just this nagging doubt. You really couldn't look at any of the three World Cups he went to as successful for him personally.

Arguably, during this period, Souness was a much more influential and important player for Scotland and the reverse was probably true at Liverpool.

  14. Agree with a lot of your post actually, but this bit above is total nonsense.

I've no idea where you live, or what company you keep, but to say that the nonsense you get at Ibrox, and with large elements of your away support is somehow indicative of 'just the way it is' in Scottish society is complete rubbish.

Having known him for several years, I'd say that TT, through his work, has probably more exposure to - and so a greater insight into - the day to day experiences of immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers than 99% of the people on this board.
