  1. Not something I like to see. He seemed to be doing well in Portugal in the first half of the season.

Focuses the mind on getting Doak in the senior squad immediately (no idea if he’s eligible elsewhere but let’s face it he probably is).

That's right, but would be amazed if he becomes a regular starter for Man U again.

Would probably be best for us if he moved but I can't see that happening any time soon.

I think he will play more than enough games for his club to be in very good condition for us. I’m not sure I’d even want our players playing absolutely every week in the EPL, I don’t think it does much for players’ international performances.

Lee Johnson has said Nisbet is definitely fit for March's games so that's good news. He's also reported as saying he thinks Josh Campbell should be considered and that Mikey Devlin can push for a recall.

I think Campbell is alright but way down the pecking order and as for Devlin, an odd comment maybe taken out of context given he's not even played a game for Hibs yet

I have to say every time I’ve seen Campbell I’ve been highly impressed. Dynamic, skilful and determined. Certainly someone to keep an eye on for the future.

Might be worth giving him a chance alongside Mcgregor and Mcginn to freshen things up a little. Ferguson will be riding high on confidence after not just breaking in but impressing for a Serie A team.

It would be interesting to see him play in a really high tempo game against top level players where you have to know where your pass is going before the ball arrives. I think he could handle it, and if so, we’ve got one very good player considering his physical attributes.

I hadnt actually bothered checking before replying but Nisbet has 10 caps and 1 goal (against Netherlands). Shankland has 4 caps and 1 goal (against San Marino).

Nisbet has one goal in 167 minutes. Shankland has one in 184 minutes.

Another decent performance by Hendry in Belgium, playing on the right hand side in a back four.

Bang go's my "he only looks good because he's got the easy job in a back 5" theory.

I’m hoping we’ll go with a back four with him on the right, McKenna on the left.

You seen his goalscoring stats? They are not that great. I even had a look at his assists on transfermarket and its not that impressive either.

He was injured or suspended alot as well. I liked him as a player and he seemed to be real handful for defenders but he wasnt some kind of missing jigsaw piece that completed our team. I think he would of been useful to have at euro 96 but he was injured anyways so theres no point thinking about that.

He may have made a difference against england in 99 but even then thats all ifs and buts, the england team were strong with guys like shearer scholes etc and even had we equalised through ferguson we would have needed another goal or a win on pens.

Would he have made a difference at world cup 98, maybe although we were terrible as a team against morroco and got humped. He might have helped against norway but even then its all speculation. He wasnt a rivaldo or robben etc. He was probably our version of niall quinn.

He was a half decent striker but i doubt he made a huge difference to our fortunes during the late 90s and early 00s.

Okay, your opinion. I’ve never heard him called “a half decent striker” before. No disrespect, but he would have been replacing tenth decent in comparison.

I remember him well and his goals. I was a 90s kid. He was a decent striker or targetman but he was never one of the best strikers(top10) in the epl. He also spent half his career injured.

He might of made a slight difference to our team but anyone who thinks he would definitely have made a huge difference is letting nostalgia rule their head.

This is delusional. He would have made a huge difference, provided the tactics were right.

Ppl seem to think he would have made a massive difference to scotland but he wasnt that good. Kevin gallacher deserved his spot upfront for scotland in world cup 98 as he was on fire that season. Saying that its still a shame as he would have been a useful player to have in the squads in the late 90s and early noughties. Must be gutting for him as playing for your country in the opening game of a world cup against brazil is the stuff of dreams.

Out of interest why didnt he play at euro 96?

Duncan Ferguson was a tremendous player. Look at his goals on Youtube if you’re too young to remember. One of the best EPL strikers when fully fit. Scotland tended to punt it up to him when he played, which was lazy and useless.

Superb for Celtic, superb for Scotland and superb for Arsenal. This season he just doesn't look the same.He isn't bombing up the wing and going by players. He looks as if he is lacking a bit of confidence which you would think could be caused by his lack of game time.

    I blame Neil Lennon.

Nisbets hold and link up play is miles off what is required at a higher level. He is a good finisher so would likely fill his boots against the minnows but would be a waste of a jersey against Norway or Spain.

I don’t agree with that at all. He’s reasonable with his back to goal and has a lovely weight of pass. He doesn’t have great pace but he’s a good all round footballer.

I defended him a few weeks ago after being rusty from long term injury and said judge him in January…

For me its not even about him starting as much as that would be nice. Its more frustrating to see experienced but limited players like Arfield staying on the pitch when the game should be done. 3-1 up against a team down to 10 men.

To then see other players getting subbed on makes no sence to me. Granted Tillman as Rangers are still weighing him up but Sands?

Surely theres a place to chuck on some youth when the OF go a couple of goals up. If they think thats too much of a risk and Lowry might cost them the game then he shouldnt be at the club in the 1st place.

Lowry has had quiet a few knocks since coming back from injury, maybe they didn’t want him on a plastic pitch.

I’m not too worried his talent is huge, but like any player, his attitude does need to be right or he’ll do nothing in the game.

Take into account though that Liverpool were playing rank rotten, How did Robertson do? Pretty badly. No doubt he will be a key part of our next squad.

I do get your point though about celebrating him winning a corner etc. Bit daft. What he needs is a start and full 90 minutes to really have a chance to impress not just a few minutes here and a few minutes there.

The bigger picture is he’s getting minutes. How many 17 year olds would get a game for Liverpool? He’s clearly very highly rated.

Think McTominay's time is done at Man Utd now. They're on a great run and he's just getting odd minutes here and there

People say this every season. He’s a vital part of the squad, and first elevens change all the time. Man Utd would not want to sell him.

Full squad for me. If he's good enough to be on the fringes for Liverpool and to have had some promising game time, he should be with the Scotland squad in preparation for becoming a regular starter. He's already beyond the potential development time he'd be getting with the 21's. Better to get him used to training and playing with the full squad. He's already holding his own with better players in Liverpool training 😂

I would agree if he was a year or more older, but will have another think in March.

I don't remember Gilmour having played much more than Doak has when he got his first call up. Although Ramsey did very well at Aberdeen, it wasn't until he got a few minutes for Liverpool that he got a callup (not much more than Doak has). Same with Patterson, he'd had half a dozen starts max when he got called up.

Clarke has a track record of calling up inexperienced youths. He's not one for including people based on purple patches, but he will make exceptions for supreme talents like Doak, Patterson and Gilmour. It would not surprise me one bit if he's in the March squad.

I suspect he might remain in the u21s and get full games alongside Rory Wilson. It’s 50:50 for me as he looks good enough for the full squad, but he’s not long turned 17.

I think the reason there's more antipathy towards Gunn than other players through the parent/grandparent rule is he's actively been anti Scottish on his social media over the years liking and reposting stuff taking the piss out of Scotland. People on here have mentioned Che or James Morrison but neither have ever had a bad word to say about Scotland.

I’ve just gone right through his entire Twitter feed. Unless it’s been deleted, there’s nothing anti-Scottish there. He is pro-England but as someone who has played right through to u21s that is not surprising. I personally don’t understand how that could happen when his dad played for Scotland, although there are Union Jacks  on a wall in which Gunn Senior was sitting.

I think if he’s humble enough and says he felt he owed England for supporting him at youth level, then okay, we can use him until someone better comes along.

  18. Hopefully it won’t be long before Rory Wilson becomes a striking option.

I do like Nisbet and it’s not fair to judge him a few games after a long term injury. His form at the end of January is when to judge, but for me he’s a natural finisher and will play best with better players around him.

Did he play much at Ross County? Most likely he’ll choose Australia.
