Could you add Hickey to that? Only a thought but he's playing really well at Brentford and could be hard to leave out. So play him right centre back and Patterson right wing back . Bit of a Tierney / Robertson situation where its hard to bench either. With Hickey being the taller too. Only my opinion

A decent shout but I wouldn’t  fancy it against Norway. I would go Souttar, Hendry, Tierney. Porteous could play the Souttar or Hendry role also, but I like the pace of my three.

Hickey in midfield is something we may see at some point.

To be perfectly frank, I saw him play for the u21s and I thought he was shite - like ‘may not even make it as a professional’ level of shite. It just goes to show that Scot Gemmill could probably ruin peak Messi as clearly any player benching for Bayern Munich (regardless of injury worries) will not be shite.

He was indeed poor in the recent u21 games. I hope it was the Gemmill effect, because he looked fantastic at u19 level.

    Gilmour v man u.

Nice bit of skill at 1.37.

I was at the game and Gilmour was impressive. He was always shouting and pointing and very much looked the part. He asks a lot of his teammates with the speed of his lay offs and strong weight of pass. He would have been so comfortable in the classic Barcelona team of a few years ago.

Morelos at his best was a powerful runner who used his strength to bully defenders off the ball. Rangers reguarly played the ball in behind and into the channels where he would chase it down and turn defences. Think back to the few seasons Rangers did really well in Europe and games against Celtic.

If Dykes scores more than 10 goals in either Europe or the EPL id be hugely surprised. As ive said though, Dkyes has been very effective for Scotland and is important in certain games which for us thats all that matters.

Yes, Morelos could bully players and get them turned in the channels, but he can’t then get away from them and get in on goal - he does lift his head and square it though. Dykes does much the same but does have that wee burst of speed over 8 yards that lets him in on goal.

Do you think if Dykes was Rangers main striker for 5 or so years that he would become their all time leading goalscorer in Europe, or score the most goals in Europe before Xmas for any player for any club or be 3rd top all time uefa / europa league goalscorer?

Moreles was a liability but there was a time where he was a nightmare for defenders to play against. He bullied defenders, could run in behind and had good instints in the box. Those days all long gone but Dykes has never ever been near those levels and wont ever get near those levels.

Morelos has never run in behind. He was slow even in his purple patch.

Have to admit I didn’t realise how good he was until the Ireland game at hampden last year as only seen snippets of him at Bologna and barely watch English football these days. People scoffing at Man City but it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Almost like he was playing with a sixth sense and his ability to keep the ball in tight areas really stood out. Could def be morphed into holding midfielder in time

It would be quite something to have a two-footed player in the middle of the park to effortlessly switch play but also have defensive qualities. I could see him doing man marking in there too.

  7. Dykes is a player that needs to be fully fit. When he is really on it he terrorises defenders. He’s got a burst of pace which is always ignored and he can finish. He also has self belief and a winning mentality. His late switch from Aussie rules means he will continue to learn and improve throughout his career. I’ve no doubt he could play lower to mid table EPL, maybe not every week, but certainly as an impact player.

I don’t think Dykes is good enough for the old firm

Dykes is better than Morelos in my opinion and I think he’d be a real handful now he’s had the experience in England. I don’t want him to go back though, he needs to keep improving against good players. Being such a late starter, I think he can get to EPL level in time.

20 year old defensive midfielder, usually a position that requires a lot of experience to develop.

Seems to be more than capable of playing that role in the championship.

In other news Norwich got destroyed last night. No Kenny McLean in front of the defence made a big difference.

I wouldn’t say he’s a defensive midfielder. He’s a playmaker with long and short passes. Not really a physical, all action type.

I was at all 3 games and whilst i was extremely drunk that is a million miles from my recollections - particularly the Germany game where it was 2 going on 5

The way to judge it is if everyone felt hard done to after the first two games - we never

We were outstanding against Germany, although too open. It was probably McStay’s best ever performance for Scotland with McAllister not far behind. I was gutted after that game. I think Nevin also played well iirc.

    Found the interview (last segment):

Seems more like he’s just being diplomatic to be honest.

It’s a bit annoying he’s over there. He’s a joy to watch and we’re basically missing out on seeing him play.

He’d be in my squad. Some people think he’s a luxury player, but he isn’t, he’s got a great work rate and is strong  on the ball. If Christie dropped out injured he’d be an ideal replacement. He could probably do the McGregor role, too.

A younger Allan McGregor would have got to that slack back pass. Obviously Souttar is at fault, but hopefully it won't knock his confidence too much.

I feel like we are very well covered at CB for the next 5 years with Hendry, McKenna, and Souttar all similar ages. I remember when the 3 of them were all starting to make waves in the SPFL at a young age, and there was a debate as to which one would make it at international level. Turns out all 3.

Agreed. They’ve all got pace which allows us to squeeze the  midfield and use our natural inclination to scrap for the ball - in better numbers and in a smaller area.

    I agree.

And his clanger was nowhere near the size of Wales defender Ben Davies who they will definitely continue to call up. Souttar showed V Denmark he has a lot to offer at international level.

I meant to write ‘outstanding’ not ‘astounding’ but you get the picture.

The way folk answer this will be as much a reflection of their age than anything else.

Not me, I’m ancient. I think the squad of 2024 - 26 will be our most successful ever.

Talent at a good age, I’d go for 82 or 86. The 74 squad was somewhat past it even if maybe the best on paper.

I remember hertz fans having the hump about him leaving for fuck all, I doubt they’ll be too bothered about it now he’s been horrendous pretty much every time Iv seen him in a Rangers shirt.

For a player that’s barely kicked a ball since July, I thought he strolled it (clanger aside). If he can get full match sharpness I think he will be an astounding player again.

I remember some of the ridiculous hype on here after he had made his first start or two for Chelsea, about what both Billy Gilmour and Scotland were about to go on to achieve

I thought you were a new member, and yet, “I sense something, a presence I’ve not felt since…”

  17. I think our current squad is likely to achieve more than any other in our history. Of course all eras had good players, but we seem to have a crop at a good age playing at a very high level. Importantly, they all appear to pulling in the right direction. No mumbling from the side lines about wanting to go home a la Mexico 86, getting pished in nightclubs or looking down on players in the Scottish league.

Might work in our favour the likes of KT Mctominay aren’t getting much minutes for their clubs.

Yes, I think that will be the case. Dykes has had a bit of a lay off, as has McGinn, so we may well reap the benefits in June.

Rodri's had an absolute shocker with his post game comments. What he's describing is a mirror image of how Spain approached it in the first half. All it succeeded in doing (apart from getting a couple of our lads booked) was to open the door to the fact that this ref was only going to reward players diving and roll around on the floor. It made perfect sense that our team would take that opportunity when they were tired and holding a two goal advantage, and at least there was actual contact when they did.

"We did many good things to win," he said on Viaplay. "We conceded easy goals - this is football, if you concede easy goals you are penalised.

"It's the way they play, but for me it's rubbish, always wasting time, provoking you, always they fall. For me, this is not football. The referee has to take on this, but he says nothing.

"We will learn for the next time. We want to go for duels, for battles - we always fight, but this is not about fighting. It's about wasting time - four, five players on the floor, but this depends on the referee, not on us.

"Today we did many good things, but what's important is the goal, and we didn't score."

We’ll give them a doing in Spain as well.
