    Not for me.
Kvaratskhelia is their primary threat so I’d rather have the best defender in that position. We have plenty of other attacking options and whilst he’s probably not as good as Patterson in that respect, Hickey isn’t exactly a slouch either.

As much as I rate Hickey, I think Patterson is a better defender. Hickey (and Robertson) were beaten too easily a few times the other night. We can’t afford to let crosses fizz across our 6 yard box at that level.

  2. I would start with Armstrong because of his running power and energy. Maybe Gilmour ahead of McGregor but I don’t see it happening. I’m assuming Patterson is unavailable. If Tierney is out we should maybe go with a back four.

  3. Another huge contribution in a Scotland shirt. That wee bit of pace and power to reach the ball and poke it in the net, then a cushioned lay off to assist the winner.

He has his detractors but he was a very late starter in football and he’ll keep improving all the way through his career. He’s taken all the best attributes from Aussie Rules with him into football and is absolute gold for us.

  4. I accept that Scotland have a habit of letting us down on a fairly consistent basis. I have to say though, I’ve more confidence in this squad of players than any other in my lifetime. I’m not saying it’s the best on paper, but I trust these players over the teams from the 80s, for example.

It’s a complete non starter. Total pie in the sky stuff

They can’t build up because it would never get the planning permission from the homeowners at the back of the north. They can’t build down because of the burn underneath. That’s quite frankly irrelevant thought because they couldn’t afford it. You’d not get much change out of around a billion quid

Sell Hampden off. Knock it down for student flats, 15 minute cities or whatever draconian measures the elite have planned for us

Offer to pay for an underground players entrance at Murrayfield so Scotland can still bid to host European finals. If they don’t want to host football then parkhead, Ibrox or a new stadium in the centre of Scotland

Hampden was an embarrassment during the Euros compared to the other stadiums hosting. it’s not fit for purpose in the modern day era. An hour to get on a train. If you compare it to Wembley and your back at Big Ben within the hour and that’s leaving after full time

Murrayfield is 20 minutes walk from the centre of Edinburgh. Glasgow doesn’t even have an airport furfuxake never mind Rutherglen

Celtic end - Rangers end. It must be the only neutral stadium in the world where two teams are guaranteed their own sections

Fuck Scottish fitbaw. It’s a busted flush caused by the incompetent and corrupt cunts in charge

    Fuck the lot of ye’s

    Largely pish.

Agreed on Gilmour, we have to get an early foothold in the middle and limit supply to you know who. Another thing is any idea how we are going to keep the players match fit given the game is still over 2 weeks away, Gilmour is one that def needs more minutes aswell.

I’m not too worried about Gilmour’s fitness. I’m fairly certain at Brighton he’s been asked to put everything into the first two thirds of a match on the understanding he’ll be subbed (for a world class player). The energy he puts into pressing is considerable. He’ll last 90 mins no problem.

One of the early criticisms of McTominay, when he was playing in midfield, was that he would roam forward and be caught out of position a bit too often. That's because he was supposed to be playing CDM.

However, now that he has more than proven himself to be an attacking force, why not give him the freedom we allow Christie/Armstrong.

So, when playing better teams, and we are under the cosh, we can add a battler into the middle of the park. But when we are on the ball it takes the defensive duties off him and we can let him do his own thing joining in attacks.

A midfield of McGregor, Gilmour, McGinn and McTominay would be exceptionally strong.

It would and McTominay would be real threat in the opposition box.

I have to laugh at some of the experts on here, McGregor is number one pick for Scotland.

     ------------------ Gunn

    --------- Porto -- Hendry -- Tierney ----

    Hickey --------------------------------- Robbo

    ----------- McTominay --- McGregor

    --- Christie ----------------------- McGinn

    ------------------ Dykes

McGregor’s a very good player. Recently he’s been giving the ball away with unforced errors - I hope he’s not getting leggy after a long hard season.

Gilmour is on fire. I do agree with other posters that McTominay could replace Christie and play a bit further forward, which would allow McGregor to sit with Gilmour.

I think there’s a strong case for Gilmour to start instead of McTominay, he’s done well for Brighton last month or so, where McTomnay is only just back from injury. Unless Gilmour plays next to McGregor and McTominay plays further forward? Would that leave us too short up front?

McGregor, McGinn, Gilmour and McTominay is a pretty impressive midfield four.

McGregor isn’t nailed on. I’d go for Gilmour who’s excelling at a far higher level. Nothing against McGregor but he seems to give the ball away a couple of times per game of late. Gilmour is fresh and McGregor has had a long season.

A lot of Arsenal fans online seemed gutted but also resigned to Tierney leaving. All the paper talk is Man City or Newcastle but I’d love to see him go abroad. Crazy to think he’s still only 25

I think Man Utd would be a good place for him and he’s better than Shaw.

Che Adams not in the squad for Southampton today.  I presume he's moving on after relegation so not playing him. Armstrong on the bench as is Gilmour for Brighton.

Adams was carrying an injury the last few games, so now they’re down he’s in recovery mode.

  12. I only saw the first half. We troubled them for 15 minutes or so. One looks to be a bit of a handful with impressive physique and pace. Wilson and Rice obviously have a chance, although I would say Wilson caused us a few problems in our own box by being in it and not doing anything.

As others have said we only need one or two at this level. A big difference between u17 and even u19 in terms of available pool of players. The big nations will always dominate u17s.

I think Christie plays ahead of Armstrong in this game and Adams ahead of Dykes if fit

I think Armstrong’s running power is important for away games, hence the nod over Christie. Dykes for me gives us that focal point, he scores goals and generally causes all manner of problems for the opposition (provided he’s on it).

Take out Patterson and Gilmour for McGregor and Hickey and that will be the side.

It may well be the side but Gilmour is getting rave reviews. He’s too good to leave out. I marginally prefer Patterson over Hickey but not much in it.

  15. 1 hour ago, noctonjock said:

Could you add Hickey to that? Only a thought but he's playing really well at Brentford and could be hard to leave out. So play him right centre back and Patterson right wing back . Bit of a Tierney / Robertson situation where its hard to bench either. With Hickey being the taller too. Only my opinion

A decent shout but I wouldn’t  fancy it against Norway. I would go Souttar, Hendry, Tierney. Porteous could play the Souttar or Hendry role also, but I like the pace of my three.

Hickey in midfield is something we may see at some point.

To be perfectly frank, I saw him play for the u21s and I thought he was shite - like ‘may not even make it as a professional’ level of shite. It just goes to show that Scot Gemmill could probably ruin peak Messi as clearly any player benching for Bayern Munich (regardless of injury worries) will not be shite.

He was indeed poor in the recent u21 games. I hope it was the Gemmill effect, because he looked fantastic at u19 level.

    Gilmour v man u.

Nice bit of skill at 1.37.

I was at the game and Gilmour was impressive. He was always shouting and pointing and very much looked the part. He asks a lot of his teammates with the speed of his lay offs and strong weight of pass. He would have been so comfortable in the classic Barcelona team of a few years ago.

Morelos at his best was a powerful runner who used his strength to bully defenders off the ball. Rangers reguarly played the ball in behind and into the channels where he would chase it down and turn defences. Think back to the few seasons Rangers did really well in Europe and games against Celtic.

If Dykes scores more than 10 goals in either Europe or the EPL id be hugely surprised. As ive said though, Dkyes has been very effective for Scotland and is important in certain games which for us thats all that matters.

Yes, Morelos could bully players and get them turned in the channels, but he can’t then get away from them and get in on goal - he does lift his head and square it though. Dykes does much the same but does have that wee burst of speed over 8 yards that lets him in on goal.

Do you think if Dykes was Rangers main striker for 5 or so years that he would become their all time leading goalscorer in Europe, or score the most goals in Europe before Xmas for any player for any club or be 3rd top all time uefa / europa league goalscorer?

Moreles was a liability but there was a time where he was a nightmare for defenders to play against. He bullied defenders, could run in behind and had good instints in the box. Those days all long gone but Dykes has never ever been near those levels and wont ever get near those levels.

Morelos has never run in behind. He was slow even in his purple patch.

Have to admit I didn’t realise how good he was until the Ireland game at hampden last year as only seen snippets of him at Bologna and barely watch English football these days. People scoffing at Man City but it wouldn’t surprise me at all. Almost like he was playing with a sixth sense and his ability to keep the ball in tight areas really stood out. Could def be morphed into holding midfielder in time

It would be quite something to have a two-footed player in the middle of the park to effortlessly switch play but also have defensive qualities. I could see him doing man marking in there too.

  21. Dykes is a player that needs to be fully fit. When he is really on it he terrorises defenders. He’s got a burst of pace which is always ignored and he can finish. He also has self belief and a winning mentality. His late switch from Aussie rules means he will continue to learn and improve throughout his career. I’ve no doubt he could play lower to mid table EPL, maybe not every week, but certainly as an impact player.
