If the offside lines show he's offside then I am not sure we an argue with technology. He looks onside when the ball is struck but i am assuming that maybe his leg is just a fraction off.

Pain in the arse but the technology should always be right imo.

but why aren’t we seeing the usual view of it?  The camera usually spins around all over the place to prove its case, but here we are looking at grainy image from miles away.

looked like both a foul & offside, when seen from the corner in slow motion

    shame

we played better after they scored

that's how we should have set out,  instead of inviting a continual besiegement

At the moment the ball was kicked, I don’t believe Hendry was offside. They only show some zoomed out view that reveals nothing.

Listening to Hampden Roar podcast, they mentioned no player has dribbled past Hickey in the EPL. That is an outrageous stat, and why he is being linked with some elite teams. Spain away from home is exactly the type of match we need Hickey playing right back.

I love Patterson, and he is almost certainly the better attacker of the 2, but I'm choosing to keep Hickey on the right against anyone we are likely to be dominated by.

I'd be pretty shocked if we changed the formation. It'll almost certainly just be a straight swap of McKenna or Cooper for Tierney. In a back 5.

I think we are pretty ineffective when we have a conventional centre half instead of Tierney in a 3, because in that role he carries the ball forward. I think Hickey could do that job and he’s a wee bit taller than Tierney.

Personally I’d prefer 4-5-1 with Ferguson in midfield.

Clarke's just making himself look like an idiot now though as he had confidently proclaimed just a few weeks ago that Anderson had spent time weighing up his options and now decided to commit himself to Scotland and now he's contradicting that again by saying he needs time again to think it through!  Basically acknolweding that the whole injury in training thing was a sham

He's already set his stall out with Adams and Gunn that he's going to indulge English players and long as they like until they decide they can't do any better so its inevitable you get situations like this, and will continue to do so. At least he's not going begging after Barnes now (not that he'll be available for a while anyway)

Clarke’s done nothing wrong. It’s on the player.

I don’t think he has enough pace to play in his favoured attacking role and it’s not clear how good he’ll be in a more central, deeper position. So I’m doubtful England or Scotland will be picking him in the longer term.

The video is slightly misleading. In the game he basically had nobody to pass to. When he had the chance to pick somebody out he normally did.

Agreed. He was breaking forward with about 4 players ahead of him. He still retained possession. The lad had great skill as well as pace. In most games he’ll only need to beat one or two players.

I think it's time to call him upto see what he's got. Calling him could freshen things up, excite the support and add competition to the regulars who need to be kept on their toes.

I think him playing off Dykes for 20 minutes would be good to see. Even having the option to bring him on last night v England would have been very tempting.

  7. I think the 5-4-1 worked against us last night. 4-5-1 might have got us a bit closer in the midfield. Hendry and McKenna would probably have had sufficient pace as the centre half pairing. Lewis Ferguson could have added some aggression to the midfield. Alternatively if Robertson not dropped, then Tierney could have gone in midfield rather than Ferguson.

We couldn’t cope with Rashford, Bellingham. Foden and Kane. Not many teams would but they got on the ball too easily.

Clyde1998 said he hoped we would learn from tonight. I hope he is right but have my doubts as Clarke is too set in his ways, no plan B, blind loyalty to old favorites, in particular McGregor. If Clarke wants to improve the team he should start with the basics of tight marking and tracking runners. We have quick defenders, and midfielders with good engines, so all the ingredients for a high press. But today England had extra men open all over the place. Even against Cyprus we alowed them far too much possession. McGregor is by far the worst offender, constantly ball watching, never tracking. He needs to be dropped. Adams is never a target man, and pointless being played alone up front. We have the best crop of players in years and the makings of a great side, but Clarke's selections, tactics questionable.

I’m somewhat seduced by this in a kind of Anakin/Palpatine scenario. I think McGregor was indeed pish. England were too good but maybe tactically we weren’t set up to get near them. Ben Doak will give us a new dimension. Doig needs to be in the A squad to push Robertson.

I know that a manager will pick the best players available, and eligible to him, but if he does appear in the next England squad, there should be no going back in for him. To pull out of one squad to join another would be a straight up insult. Hopefully it won't come to that, but there seems to be more traction in this story now, especially with Southgate coming out. He could of said that he's part of our setup now and wished him well, but instead he noted his admiration for him

I trust Clarke to handle the situation appropriately (if there is one). He’s not known for messing about and will only pick players if he thinks they’re committed.

  10. Amazing that Doak could still play for the u21s in four years time. He won’t though. He wasn’t even fully match fit last night. If he can avoid serious injury he will be an incredible player.
If it’s between him, Anderson and Barnes for one spot, it’s no contest. I’d be happy to have the other two in the squad if they actively want to be in it, but Doak is the man.

Quite a few good performances here. Doak the obvious stand out, but been impressed with Morrison and Barron, too.

King, Bowatt, Doig and Cameron also.

Gemmill playing Doak as a striker and Leon King as a centre mid. Never known a manager to averse to playing players in their actual positions

A weird formation but the players are doing well.

Yeah did that. There just isn’t any option to select the game. Never mind. Thanks anyway mate.
