  1. He signed for Dortmund after impressing in a UEFA cup tie 2/3 years earlier against them.

I do not think it was down to fact he played for Motherwell as Brown had called up Brian Martin from Motherwell for a fair number of squads, more down to Lamberts position on the park and just Brown was far to loyal to the guys who played there already.

Lambert was more of a playmaker at St Mirren and Motherwell but wasn't as good as McStay, hence lack of early caps. Dortmund spotted his potential as a more defensive player and the rest, I suppose, is history.

  2. Pitty we cant get that bugger Dorrans playing regularly, the guy is clearly quality. He's either injured or no getting his game for wba. Should have about 40 odd caps for us by now in my opinion, shame.

No reason why he can't force his way in, especially with Snodgrass out.

  3. The 98 squad was weak with very little creative spark. We're in a much better place now.

I seem to remember some grumbles in 86 about Dalglish's withdrawal with injury being more to do with Hansen not being in the squad. I think we'd have got through the group with Dalglish as he was still some player.

  4. From Forrest website....

    Oliver Burke

    Midfielder

The winger started the 2014-15 season in explosive form, putting in strong performances at Under 18s and Under 21s level.

Nicknamed Twisty, Burke's strengths include bombing past full backs using his raw speed to get to the byline and deliver for the strikers.

Confident on the ball, the wide man is a yard ahead of his marker before the ball has even reached him, meaning he's a constant danger.

When required, he can also be a useful physical presence, never shy to make a challenge. His work-rate going in both directions provides a huge aid to the right back playing behind him.

Burke can operate as a centre forward too, and has featured for Scotland at youth level.

. I read on some forum he's Chris Burke's cousin. Hopefully that's true and he has Scotland leanings.
  5. Not necessarily relating to the specific players you mention here (apart from Burgess), but generally I think the answer to your question is simple.

Stop selecting players who aren't Scottish at youth level and they'll stop deserting us when their real country comes calling.

    :ok:

Burgess left Aberdeen aged 11, so has spent more team here than there.

  6. Hanley has done very well. He'll keep getting better. I'm surprise more people aren't upset at Cameron Burgess choosing Australia because we're a bit thin on the ground in this position. I do think Danny Wilson will get a fair few caps by the end of his career.

  7. It's worth pointing out that we finished 2nd bottom of the group. Stark should have been punted years ago but he really, really needs to go before the next campaign.

It's an absolute joke that he has stayed in the role for so long.

    Agreed.

  8. First referee I've seen to send a player off for time wasting when he's a goal down with two minutes of injury time left to play.

Says a lot about the stupidity of the player. The ref was honking though. They had a man down for ages and no time added on. Who's to say big Hanley wouldn't have slammed a header in from the corner we should have been allowed to take?

  9. Thinks I learned from Yesterday.

1,If Scotland play like that in every game they will finish second.

2,Germany aren't as invincible as once thought and they may drop points further long in the campagin.

3,It wouldn't matter if Pep Guardiola was the Irish manager,we would still play badly away from home against "lesser" teams.

    4.Poland/Lewandowski state early intentions.

Georgia away gives me nightmares. You're Glaswegian forward did you a turn there.

  10. That's exactly the team i would choose, and probably the one that will take us to the Euros.

I'd say the only interchangeable positions are the CBs but unfortunately none of the young CBs breaking through look like they will be ready in the next couple years. The other is Steven Fletcher's. On his day, he is fantastic and i'd happily have him lead the line in all our games. But i i think, with the system we play, we could do with a faster, counter attacking centre forward that can get on the end of through balls. But that is nit-picking.

Though saying all that, Bannan was excellent tonight. I'd have no reservations with playing him at RM again.

Bannan was good and could replace Snodgrass in that team while he's out. A fully fit Forrest would be a great option for us on the right with Anya on the left, who along with Hutton and Robertson would give us unbelievable pace down the flanks. If you have clever players like Naismith, and Fletcher centrally then you're in business.

  11. Marshall

    Hutton Martin Hanley Robertson

    Fletcher Brown

    Snodgrass Naismith Anya

    Fletcher

Pray to god players remain fit, because on that performance and with those players, 2nd is ours.

    That is our best team.

  12. Yeah agreed. Be nice to see if he can cut it a level above - so much potential it would be nice if he can contribute something in a Scotland shirt

I don't think anyone is in a position to say if he's likely to be a regular 5 years from now.
