  1. If McTominay doesn’t make it then I think we’ve had it. I suppose he’s fit enough that he could still have a chance right up until the last minute, even if he doesn’t play for his club. I’ve got a feeling Hockey might be the same. At least Gilmour is back playing.

I'm still trying to get over the late Billy Bremner knocking it past the post against Brazil in '74! These things stay with you.

and then there's Steve Nichol not putting his foot through it v Uruguay, and Mo Johnstone knocking it over the bar from 6 yards in the dying moments against Brazil. Both would have got us through to the next round in 86 and 90, respectively.

The same could be said about Che Adams who only committed himself to play for us once we qualified for Euro 2020. Plus he rejected call ups from us previously under McLeish and in Clarke’s early tenure.

Patterson is definitely out. He’s done his hamstring which is going to require surgery. I like Livramento as a player but he’s said on numerous occasions that he wants to represent England at senior level at some point in his career. So that’s out the window. Looking at the options unless Hickey can make a miraculous return in time (praying that he does🙏🏽🤲🏽), I think it’s probably going to be two players selected out of Ralston/Johnston/McCrorie. Ralston hardly gets a game at Celtic and I was surprised why he didn’t push for a move in January even if it was just on loan to a club that he can get himself regular game time. Johnstone doesn’t get much game time himself and only makes the odd sub appearance for Sturm Graz. McCrorie is the only one that has been playing regularly but I don’t know how he’s been doing at Bristol City.

I wasn't aware of his England comments. I saw his mum wanted him to play for Scotland.

im not saying O’Donnell should be in squad in normal circumstances but we have no one else who has played for Scotland at right back and he does have experience in last Euros. Don’t see Clarke taking a punt on Johnson or McCrorie.

Hopefully Hickey does make it and we go with him and Ralston as back up (assuming Patterson is unfortunately goosed as appeared to be on Monday night).

If Patterson is out (I don't think that is certain) and Ralston and Johnstone continue to get zero minutes, it might be worth calling up Livramento (provided he's getting minutes). The argument against was that it would disrupt squad harmony, but if there are no credible replacements it should be considered.

I'm hopeful we'll still have fully fit Hickey and Patterson at the Euros but it's a worry.

  5. I've no doubt Gauld is good enough to play for Scotland. He's more clinical than Christie and his work rate is just as good. It's a shame for us, as fans, that we've not seen much of him, but he shouldn't have gone to the MLS. Out of sight, out of mind. No chance he goes to the Euros.

Big John Hughes. That would be a very very classic us appointment.

    He's a progressive.

  7. I'm torn between a highly techical coach from the  Netherlands or big John Hughes. That's not sarcasm, his sides play good passing football and I think he could get a real camaraderie going in a group of young players that would hopefully be continued as they progress to the full team.

I accept It's offensive if you are calling someone who is disabled retarded which is not the case here whatsoever.

To compare using the word retarded to someone being racist is way overboard in my book.

I find it interesting that they are no comments from yourself or others to people who are being abusive telling posters to fuck off etc, all very hypocritical.

Regardless i've respected that some people may not like the word so won't use this again.

You misunderstand, it's when the term is directed at someone for doing something stupid with no thought to the distress it causes to some people who happen to overhear it being used in that context (e.g. people with an affected family member). I'm not especially having a go at you, lots of people use the term, I just don't like it because of the knock on effect it has on others.

Oh shut up what a load of pish

It's a commonly used insult but I hate it. Imagine you had a kid or sibling that had a genetic disease that compromised their mental development and you have to listen to people accusing others of being the equivalent of the symptoms of that disease. People using the R term are effectively saying that your child or sibling is (as they see it) among the most pathetic humans on the planet and therefore use it as a slur. I'm not overthinking it, people who say it are underthinking it.

Lol is 'retarded' a banned word now.

It's gunna be tough to have a conversation with anyone if we start banning words like retarded.

It shouldn't, horrible word to use. Worse than racism in my opinion.

Aye Doddsy wouldn't have been that much of an upgrade on who went to France, but he did end up being a decent option for us

One I forgot to mention was Don Hutchinson, within a few months he was our main man up front, if only Brown had taken a punt on him earlier 🫤

Dare I say it, Hutchison was normally a midfielder.

  12. I wonder if McTominay has been considered up front. I'm not massively in favour but I don't see the harm in trying. He's got the pace and strength and his youth years as a winger would be helpful. He's not always the most influential in midfield in terms of dictating play but his goals and energy are. These may be transferable skills and a good way to fit Ferguson or McGregor into the team. Probably a bit late now to test for the Euros.

  13. Regarding our recent poor results, honestly, I think this is a good thing. Being long in the tooth, it is fairly clear that Scotland do best when they're feeling the heat and need to roll their sleeves up. I'm thinking  Sweden 90, Holland 78 and various other less memorable occasions. When we're angry and under pressure, bring it on. We've got the players to do it, of that I have no doubt.

Lost to Georgia today to go along with the loss to Italy the other day. Why do the SFA persist with the likes of hoofball Stark?

Yeah, I was trying to find the result. SFA very quiet on it. 2-3 loss. Stark needs to go. This group needs a proper manager. We don’t want a shambles of a set up that sees dual nationals leaving, and we need proper preparation for the first team. Arguably the best of these players most likely skip the u21s.

Yeh he was excellent tonight. He looked the best of our back 3 & it makes you wonder when you see performances like this why he isn't out on loan , like all players his age he needs to be playing.

King, Conway & Bowie who is a unit & really strong probably the pick for me closely followed by Barron who  always makes himself available & uses the ball well.

Yeah I agree with that. It might seem crazy, but if Fraser doesn't make the Euros, Bowie could be a good option on the right wing. Big, strong, fairly quick and good feet. I was impressed with his attitude, a real determination and confidence about him.
King strolled it, and needs to sort out first team football next season one way or another.
Conway looked like a good conventional striker. A bit of fire about him, and he is also quick.

  16. Now 3-1. We've been not great in this game. Individually alright but collectively a bit too far apart from each other and the odd bad decision on the ball. Also poor use of subs, they're quite clearly blowing out their arses in last 15 minutes.

    Italy haven't been great either.

  17. 2 - 0. Bavidge knew he was about to be subbed so failed to even attempt to close down his man, then they get up and score. Also got a yellow for dissent.

  18. The u19s play Italy today in an u19 Elite Round qualifier. Wilson, Bavidge and One is a pretty exciting selection of strikers to choose from.
