Porteous , McKenna, Tierney would be my starting choices also. I like Hanley  but think the centre of the 3 role can be played well by almost all our options & maybe due to injuries & age it might be time to move on from Hanley .

If Kenny McLean makes the squad his recent performances playing well in central defence should allow Clarke to chance only taking 5 central defenders.

Probably that'll be Hendry, Porteous, Tierney, McKenna & Hanley with Souttar sadly missing out.

No danger McLean is an international centre back

Calvin Ramsey has joined Bolton for the reminder of the season on loan.

Bit of a shame he’s had to drop down to league 1 to get a game but hopefully he’s better off next season for it

Not a transfer, because he hasn't moved anywhere, but Gauld signed a new contract at Vancouver.

One thing I've noticed, that may just be a coincidence, is that Clarke was Kilmarnock manager when Gauld was on loan at Hibs. I wonder if that has influenced his perception of him negatively. An abiding memory of being ineffectual. That might sully his view of him, which is quite hard to shake off.

Clarke must have a fairly poor perception of players like Jacob Brown then who’ve been terrible in front of his own eyes whilst Scotland manager

Watford are currently 9th.  Slightly above mid-table then.

I'm still of the opinion that the Saudi league is of a low standard. Jack Hendry's club are in 8th position and there last five matches  are two draws and three losses. The crowds are poor, players are desperate to leave and it's not generally viewed as a top league. Most importantly, I feel Hendry's level has dropped since he went there.

    See these rankings below:

The Saudi league will be a higher standard than our own league which we happily pick players from

Im more excited by the likes of Conway and to a lesser extent Hardie than McBurnie and Brown but a big part of that is that as supporters we are always hoping the solution is just around the corner. That perhaps Conway will score for fun once he gets the call, something we know McBurnie and Brown wont do.

We need to temper that with not just calling people up for the sake of it. One of Clarkes strengths has been the club feel, making call ups be earned etc. He doesnt tend to call players up who are just on a hot streak as that might only cover 1 set of fixtures in International terms.

My position with McBurnie is that he was commited 1st time around when alot of other players werent. His performances werent good but also they werent stinking. He hit the woodwork 2 or 3 times and to that extent was abit unlucky he hasnt broken his duck. He also took and scored a vital penalty. He rightfully hasnt been called up in a while however is still one of the top 6 or 7 strikers we have and should his form improve and or we get either injuries or other players form drops off then he should still be considered for a call up.

As supporters we are always wanting young players called up. We cant then dismiss a player for their entire career because they didnt seize the chance when they were called up when they were younger.

His performances were extremely stinking to the extent he couldn’t even trap or pass a ball properly

    Hardies second goal is excellent.

This guy might get a move to the epl if he keeps scoring. Certainly should be a contender for clarkes euro squad.

Two goals and an assist and he’s into double figures for the season now, out scoring Dykes, Conway & Adams (only by 1 admittedly) in that league.

Probably got a chance of a call up for the opening friendlies, certainly deserves one ahead of someone like Nisbet anyway.

I hope you're right. He was being linked with a move to Spurs a couple of weeks ago.

Tommy Conway needs called up at the earliest possible opportunity. A 21-year-old centre-forward with pace, mobility and an eye for goal - get him in the squad Steve!

Yep Conway is playing his way into the next squad

I am not suggesting that our young players stay in Scotland or the lower leagues in England for their whole career.

I just don't see the point in them going before the age of 21 to a club that won't give them first team football.

Does Gilmour not show exactly why you should do it though?

Hes a first team regular in the EPL now at 22, no danger he’d have been that if he hadn’t left Rangers as a teenager

I am speaking purely from where things stand now. Despite an incredible scoring run of form he currently sits in perhaps fifth in line of strikers given that Christie gets selected as a striker and Brown is seen as number three. I say that as Brown has clearly been given the more chances in recent matches such as V France and V Norway despite Shankland having scored V Georgia. that suggests something needs to change for him to real rattle Clarke's cage and force himself further up the pecking order.

He is already in rich scoring form so he cannot do any more on that front. A move to the EPL would surely help if he were to continue scoring as it is at another level. Very true Rangers move is not another level as such but they are still in the Europa League so that is on another level being it is the latter stages so takibg his scoring form into those matches too may help.

For the record I'd have him  in the squad for the Euros no problem as things stand even if he remains at Hearts but I am not Steve Clarke. I was merely posting on the hope he does force his way into Clarke's plans and for that reason, oddly for some reason, it seems something needs to change for Shanklandto appeal more to Clarke.

Shanklands ahead of Brown. Shankland saved us v Georgia and Brown, like Greg Taylor, embarrassed himself vs Norway.

Both Taylor & Brown played their way out of contention for the Euros squad based on that game.

In an interview this week Clarke said that more important than his own loyalty to players would be their performances in games for Scotland when it comes to picking his squad for the Euros

Step up from what? He wasnt playing any first team football at Chelsea or rangers. Maybe the training facilities, youth coaching etc, were a step up from rangers but if he had gotten regular first team football at rangers then would he have developed more than playing youth football at chelsea? Imo he would be much further along in his development had he played a couple of seasons at rangers or in the English championship.

Can you maybe explain why none of our other young players benefit from the so called "step up" that elite clubs provide?

Only mctominay has made the grade in 20 years out of dozens of youngsters.

Elite clubs fail to develop our young players. That's a statistical fact and it surprises me ppl still insist that they should go to these clubs and waste away in their youth set ups.

I could understand the reasoning behind it if there were even a handful of success stories but it's the lower league route that is were our best players have come from.

I also don't see gilmour as anything special yet either. I have seen him look terrible for Norwich and chelsea and he has only really started to excel for Brighton recently. He still has much to prove and personally I think Chelsea stunted his development and only now that hes at a lower epl club is he starting to get the proper first team experience that will turn him into a good player.

Also I doubt gilmour was ever going to slate the Chelsea youth set up while he was in it which is when the video was made.

Gilmour left Rangers at 15 of course he wasn’t playing 1st team football.

He also made his debut for Chelsea at a younger age than he would have for Rangers.

He'd barely given Rushford a sniff all night. Very assured for 20 years old.

Yep, very impressed. Watching him tonight you’d not be worried if he got a call up soon, albeit be better if he was playing at a higher level though.

Can use the ball well too & is physical too, well done to him.

Tom Cairney now saying he's hoping he can be involved in the Euros with Scotland, but realises his chances are slim.

I can't see who we'd drop for him, Jack maybe, so can't see this one happening.

If he keeps his form up I’d take him instead of Kenny McLean tbh. McLean playing centre back for a mid table championship side

A Greg Taylor goal with a lovely volley for Celtic

Unlikely to make the next squad if Robertson + Tierney both fit

He was embarrassing vs Norway. I’d happily see him fazed out the squad.

Struggles really badly with the step up to international footy

Both were at fault but I would probably attribute more blame to marshall. No keeper should be that far off his line in that situation.

Saying that it was a freak goal that  had a huge element of luck and great finishing from the striker.

    Hendry wasn’t at fault 😂

😂 indeed, but I did hear a lot of folk griping about Hendry shooting when he did

aye that was one of the most comical moments on here there’s ever been!!

Marshall on the half way line for no reason & gets lobbed from 50 yards & there’s knickerwetting here from some about Jack Hendry shooting which was the reason Marshall got completely embarrassed and not his own complete fuck up 😂
