He's only got 9 goals though cf to that Smzodics with23. The latter has just been 'discovered' by RoI. Why can't we find someone like that? Anybody with Scottish connections with over 20 in the Championship would be automatic for our squad.

To be fair we have Che Adams who has a much stronger pedigree and has a very similar goals/minutes ratio in an outlier season for Szomodics.

Conway is also much younger and a pacy, off the shoulder type striker. I’d much rather have him and Adams.

Yeah the whole format is frankly ludicrous and league B is a farce really.

Would still have hoped for more than 3k but performances haven't warranted it at all.  Think the ladies need to look inwards rather than outwards regarding it stagnating.

I'll be amazed if we qualify for this Euros given the current level of performance, the obvious reliance on the old guard and likely needing beat a League A side away.

I know I was pessimistic above but there’s still a high chance they’ll get to the final play offs and will likely be playing a team like Ireland, Poland, Czech Republic or Finland. These are all 50/50 ties and we’ll hopefully have Weir, Watson, Thomas and Hanson back who will make a big difference going forward.

  3. Excruciating, not just tactically but technically too.

Most women’s national teams have  stepped up a level the last 6 or 7 years but we have clearly regressed.

A partial excuse is the list of missing players but performances like that have almost no positives.

I see he’s in the 3 nominated for League One young player of the season so must be doing OK

Yeah obviously good enough for our under 21s.

Looks like he’ll also be, or close to, Blackpool’s player of the season. Which is not bad for a 21 year old.

Not sure if Brest will keep him next season given that they’ll likely be in the champions league. I’d imagine he’ll go to an English championship club, and hope for similar game time to this season. (And a place in our squad 😅)

  5. Lewis Morgan scored a hat-trick for NY Red Bulls against Inter Miami tonight. Miami’s team had Busquets, Alba and Suarez starting. Also bizarrely so did Robert Taylor who declined a call up for Finland to miss their Euros play-off so he could play in this game. A 34 capped, 29 year old in the form of his life…

Do we know if he's even interested in playing for us but?

Don’t see why not. He was brought up here and played for our previous youth teams. Isn’t going to be called up by England. Described Scotland as ‘home’ in an interview the other day.

Suppose playing for the African champions is pretty appealing but not any time soon I’d imagine.

Bit weird that we called up than random league 2 Irish under 21 player who didn’t want to play for us but not Dembele.

it was a cracking game. Mctominay was decent.

Thought he was much better than decent.

Had cramp right at the end but won a header to allow the breakaway for the winning goal.

And a goal and assist, quality player.

The chat is McGregor needs an OP and won't make the Euros.

Apparently needs an operation but Celtic want him to play with injections so he can delay it. From a Scotland perspective an operation now might mean he’d recover in time for the Euros?

He’s possibly fcked for Scotland either way. An operation now might not give him enough recovery time and a delayed op will definitely mean he’s out…I can’t imagine medics for Celtic or Scotland will let him play with injections for 4 months.

  9. No Karamoko Dembele after 6 goals and 10 assists from 20 starts in league 1.

    Won’t be in England’s under 21s either.

Great talent performing well for his age but not available or just not being considered?

A few players on tv tonight in the Fa cup (mostly eligble before the usual kick off)

Bournemouth Christie on iplayer v Leicester.

Blackburn Hyam and Gallagher starting V Newcastle Gordon starting on the bench Barnes Anderson.

Gonna through in the most left field eligible player…sorry in advance.

Christie’s current central midfield partner Alex Scott could play for Scotland. Born and raised in Guernsey so has the pick of the home nations.

Has played for England youth teams but has a Scottish name.

Nothing whatsoever against McGregor but it’s obvious Gilmour & Christie are in better form and playing at a higher level every week.

I’d say McGinn and Christie having their best ever seasons? Probably Gilmour as well considering his minutes on the pitch.

That’s true but Christie has been playing this position for 3 months ish? And hasn’t ever played there for Scotland. McGregor has been brilliant for Celtic and Scotland for a number of years.

Although I’d definitely start Christie as CM instead of McGregor against Netherlands to see how he does.

Probably Ferguson instead of McGinn too for the same reason and incase McGinn gets injured.

    😂

Anyways Doig could not even force his way into the squad when Robertson and Tierney were injured so cannot see him managing it if both are fit.

He was captain of the under 21s who are doing well so it would be good to see him go back and qualify for next years Euros.

  13. 31 minutes ago, Caledonian Craig said:

Bit of a myth that Doig is doing well. This season he lost his place in Verona side and since moving to Sassuolo has not played at all.

Brown is almost certainly out with injury as is Nisbet.

Our squad will probably be something like this:-

    Gunn, Clark, Kelly

Hickey (if fit), Patterson, Porteous, Hendry, Hanley, Souttar, Robertson, Tierney

McGinn, McGregor, McTominay, Ferguson, McLean, Gilmour, Christie, Armstrong

    Dykes, Adams, Shankland, Fraser

Think your squad is almost bang on but McKenna might come in if he keeps playing for Copenhagen. Porteous dropping out is looking most likely but Hanley and Souttar are always at risk of injury.

Also, Doig has played 5No. 90mins since he joined Sassoulo.

Who was the young guy with the wacky name that went from Aberdeen to Ibrox? Haven't seen him appear in any of the lower age squads.  (I'd obviously recognise the name if I saw it!)  He was meant to be a superstar in the making.

Heard the other day as well that Liverpool are supposed to be in for Frimpong.  Not sure where that'd leave Calvin Ramsay considering there's a N Irish guy the same age already getting first team games there at right-back.

Lancelot Pollard? Had a check and he’s apparently left Rangers for Sparta Rotterdam.

Archie gray scored for Leeds. Does he count.

Can’t see him choosing Scotland after all of his English youth caps.

He’s probably already good enough for our squad with Hickey injured. Looks absolute quality.

Northampton fans are claiming that Marc Leonard is the best player to ever play for them, previous loans include dom Calvert-Lewin and Kyle Walker, certainly a big season for him next season be it Brighton or another loan. Apparently been outstanding week in week out in league 1.

A shame he is a couple of weeks too old for the current under 21s!

Karamoko Dembele also scored today in league 1…lots of high praise from Blackpool fans too.

Just looked at the Blackburn Wrexham match report and I noticed Sam Gallagher among the goals, so I went to read about him.  Did we perhaps miss an opportunity with him?  He's never been prolific but wondered if his qualities might have been useful for us.

Looked a prospect when he was about 21 (probably similar to what Tommy Conway looks now) but don’t think he’s ever been better than what we have. I’d hope that Shankland could score more than 10 a season in the championship.

Are you his agent? , I’d be willing to bet he didn’t

It was widely reported that a number of clubs were after him. Why wouldn’t they be? Free agent, 9 goals and 11 assists, and his clubs player of the year in Portugal’s top league.

Would have loved to see Gauld  either be called up in some friendly games or do what Landon Donovan use to do from the MLS a 6 month loan on the Prem and show how good he is, interestingly designated player in the MLS is not always amazing there are some great players but most are at the end of their careers, lots of players well into their 30s, Johnny Russell is still one.

Also Jordan Holsgrove is pretty much having a similar career path Estoril are now in the portugese league cup final.

Yeah a lot of the designated players are older and signed for their high profile. I guess a direct comparison is Insigne who Toronto signed in 2022 (and has been out performed by Gauld). But he’s obviously still a very good player, the season he signed he had 11 goals and 9 assists for Napoli.

Holsgrove should be a guy Clarke is watching. Doesn’t seem as if he’s a star player for them though and there’s lots of Scottish players ahead of him in that position.

If he was that fantastic he wouldn't be plying his trade in Canada .

He's not currently in the squad cos he currently ain't good enough, and I don't think he ever will be.

He’s a designated player earning 40k a week, like other quality players in the league. It’s not like he’s a standard Vancouver player.

He would have had multiple offers in top European leagues when he left Farense but chose Vancouver. He was already one of the highest rated players outside the big clubs in Portuguese league, a league that’s definitely good enough for our players.

So no, the fact that he plays in Canada isn’t a good indication on how good he is.

He would be a big miss for us, but I have a good bit of faith that Stevie Clarke will have a plan in the event that he is injured come the Euros.

    Maybe Kenny McLean at LCB?

One of Clarke’s favourites and has played centre back for Norwich this season.

He’s decent in the air and would be able to join in attacks. Unlikely to be as defensively switched on or be able to make a Tierney Spain style run.

Dykes played central midfield today, got the 90 mins in a 2-0 win. Some cracking reviews from the QPR fans on Twitter about him playing deeper 👍🏼

There’s no chance Dykes genuinely played centre midfield. He maybe dropped back a little.

Tidy use of the ball and quite quick. Still lacking a bit physically.

I know his last international appearance was with England U18s but I'd be surprised if he gets anywhere near their full squad.

Should definitely be in our under 21 squad.

Decent praise from Earnshaw and Holloway at the end there too.
