Why didn't he just buy a mug like he did many times when manager at Sheffield united?

I don't think he's done anything wrong today. If you're implying he's to blame for the goal I'd disagree. O'Donnell should have covered the run.

Agreed with this today but I just don't think he is anyway near a top class defender. I have never met  a fellow Thistle fan who thought he was a patch on Liam Lindsay. Lindsay is commanding, dominant with more than decent communication skills. Hendry has so little of that and the 6 decent months at Dundee are a highlight in an otherwise low key career. Arguably Lindsay leavoing led to Thistle relegation and eventually Archibald's sacking

    Inquest... whose fault?

Probably O'Donnell. two of them went after the first player and left huge gap for full  back to take touch and cross in

Haha you are indeed very pessimistic, and I don’t blame you in the current climate.

But, the players we are producing at age group level now, don’t only compete and get results against some of the top nations, we also play possession football against them. And even at 16/17/18 years old some of these boys are getting first team exposure, Cochrane at Hearts is injured at the moment, but Levein has already said he’s the best midfielder at the club.

and wont be first choice when fully fit. Problem is Mr 4-6-0 got money to spend at hearts and went down the foreigner route again. Last year when he didn't he gave loads of youngsters a chance, including Cochrane.

The ground map show it looking fairly full, however it's hard to tell if they've actually sold any tickets behind the goals - I'm guessing not. I'd be surprised if the crowd is greater than 30,000.

Struggle to get into 5 figures, more if Ronaldo was playing but not a great attraction to see a decent Portuguese team going through the motions.

  6. Players queuing up at Burger King for a meal at Tbilisi Airport after last time there as SFA didn't arrange food for team after match. Bear in mind this was 3 days before Germany came calling at Hampden for a qualifier.

Should do a poll for the most bizarre SFA cock up. List of hundreds.

  7. Ever read Graham Scott's book on the 1978 world cup and in particular the travel and hotel arrangements?

all the possible goodwill of the Hampden send off deteriorated after the 24 trip ( team bus could make it up the hill to the hotel.

Probably more of a reason for the whole  fiasco than Ally not scouting the opponents.

Shambolic, amateurish and hasn't improved since then.

Let's remember that the starting eleven was the same as the one against Albania and we played them off the park in the first half.  Tonight, however, showed that a team that goes head to head in formation, with genuine wing backs, will show the weakness in playing players out of position - their wing backs caused us problems all night and ours caused them none.  Back to 4-2-3-1 for me.

    Only pass marks tonight were;

McGregor (A) - could have been a gubbing without him.

McDonald - I've never rated him but thought he did well tonight.

McGinn - almost expect him to make at least one the suicidal pass (which he did) but otherwise our driving force throughout the match.

Add Colin McGregor to this and 100% right. Did Ok and seemed to want to take the game to them in second half.

    yes, Ive just seen that.

Moaning about losing centre halves and then saying he was going to take an uninjured one off.... to be replaced by who exactly? McBurnie? Couldn't make this stuff up.

It is reported that McLeish said he was about to take Souttar off, just before his sending off, and was about to replace him with McKenna.

McKenna was already on the pitch...

  10. Not just the result but must be the most turgid style of football ever and I include 4-6-0 Craigy in that. No inventiveness just anti football hope for  a break and a win ( e.g Albania.)

The real benefits of the Nations League are becoming clear, it will give the Grim Reaper time to piss almost everybody off and the FA will have to act. As somebody says above SFA usually wait until qualification has gone, this time only the first shot of it has gone. Come on Maxy, do your job.

Who to succeed the GR? 1) Give Steve Clarke and offer he cant refuse, not sure he would take it then but team playing good football and giving youngsters a chance. 2) Do an England and appoint Scott Gemmill. Under 21s obviously enjoy playing for him and he is getting results. If we happen to beat Ukraine and England this break then the momentum might become irreversible. Worked last time we did it, Andy Roxburgh. 1990 WC ( in a group with France and Yugoslavia 🙂 ) and 1992 EC and by association Craig Brown ( 1996 EC and 1998 WC )

  11. Think the problem with Griffiths is McLeish already stated that Naisy would be his first choice striker in Israel not omitting im from Albania match. Not a wise thing to do. What if Naisy got injured and he was relying on Griffiths to take over? McLeish should have waited until the meet up and then assessed each player. Really poor man management but also toys out of the pram for our erstwhile number 9.

  12. Don't want to over criticise a youngster but I hope Hendry is aware that he has a long, long way to go. Competent in the ball but his reading of the game was awful last night.

Gordon was OK first half, McGregor ok in small doses, was Griffiths playing? Thought Salzburg targeted Tierney when going forward. Forrest was ok for the last 19 minutes of the match

  13. Probably be Bates as we still need cover there ( how long can Mulgrew go on for?)

Was superb in under 21 match last week, as was Porteous ( and McCrorie in defensive mid)

Good to see these youngsters going abroad, bound to improve their game.
