  1. So costs are higher eh ?.

Wonder how Aldi and Lidl compete from Germany and even manage to undercut Asda with better brands.Tesco have complained they said no such thing. Waitrose asserts some products may be cheaper

When you tell lies make sure its at least a lie that's difficult to spot.I must have imagined Lidl and Aldi are battering the major UK supermarkets who are all losing market share. They will be begging to operate in Scotland come next Friday.Looking forward to the first Lidl/Aldi superstore in Edinburgh, as apparently Asda at Chesser has just lost around 60% of its custom. :-))

  2. If we vote NO on Thursday, the only way we will get Independence is when your nation votes for it. We wont have such a perfect storm again in our favour.

Absolutely. Scotland will be independent again, let's not do it when the last drop of oil has been passed against the wall. I think the rather belated attempts by London based politicians, the firebombing and scaremongering actually show this is an opportune time for Scotland to liberate herself from a political union that is past its sell by date.

  3. I agree with Ersatz Thistle that this seems to be getting more of a problem. It's also one that has affected Northern Ireland losing players to the Republic. I think part of it might be success, England have been more successful than we have in recent years (at least they qualify) and same with the Republic over their smaller neighbours. I also wonder if there is an issue that our diaspora is not as strong as it once was. I had several mates who would have been eligible to play for both England and Scotland when we were younger, there was never any doubt that we considered our allegiance was to Scotland even if we hadn't been born there or one parent was English etc. I think those of Scottish descent nowadays don't do that as much, people of Irish descent seem to me to be much more likely to be proud of their heritage whereas for some of us the cringe sets in and at some level that might actually have to do with the fact that the Republic is an independent country and we aren't. All very anecdotal In know but it's my perception and I don't know how usual it is.

  4. I think both are very good keepers, McGregor can be more spectacular but I feel that Marshall is more consistent. Rumour is the first choice keeper's not bad either. I wish we had as much quality in some other areas.

  5. I don't think enough was made of our own injuries. We lost 3 nailed on starters - a country of 82 million can cope more easily with such losses than us.

I think that's a very good point, the missing guys last night would have been in the team. I think the encouraging thing is that even with losses in key areas that Strachan's able to get people playing as a team and its that which gives me confidence. Generally I feel that sooner or later we were going to lose, no team can keep an unbeaten run going forever and I'd rather lose to the Germans than some of the others especially if we made a game of it as we did in the second half.

  6. Sooner or later we were going to lose to someone. I'd prefer the Germans to have ended our run rather than Georgia or Ireland, anything we'd picked up tonight would have been a bonus but I guess the Irish result makes it trickier.

  7. No. Terrible aimless play. Completele disconnect between defence, midfield and attack.

A stroke of genius from McGeady got us out of jail. We're fcked if we play like that against anyone else.

I'd settle for the points and playing badly any day, you're off to a good start however you played.

  8. beleive me the No press can and have went a lot lower than this. They make up stories, print peoples pictures in their pages and just spout pish.

I think the press can do what they want, facts don't matter anymore just impressions. Just get that undecided to vote No and its job done whatever the truth is. We've seen a lot of it and I would expect to see a lot more over the next week. Just needs people to be on the ball and challenge it when it happens, gracefully but vigorously.

  9. Just watching a documentary on Ya Choob, and this bit jumped out at me:

    http://youtu.be/N1l3F6n8i-A?t=17m32s

I wonder if Curtice still sticks by his asseration (from a year ago admittedly) that the Yes campaign "twittering" and "knocking on peoples doors" won't be enough to win the day?

It is fascinating from a media point of view that a Yes victory will have been won without the help of and overwhelmingly in the face of the traditional media. Old fashioned door knocking, talking to people, handing out pamphlets/booklets and new media such as the internet will have triumphed over the press and televsion barons.

  10. This sort if thing worries me.

If BT completely shit it and Westminster offer definitive new powers, could this derail the whole effin bandwagon??[/quote

They've had years and years to think about offering more comprehensive devolution and they come up with this now. The No campaign has been marked by a succession of falsehoods - the only guarantee that the people of Scotland will determine their future remains the same as it ever was, a Yes vote. Westminster is panicking, keep going, keep working, the finishing line and the prize is in sight

  11. Ivanovic is probably the best right back in the EPL. Coleman is probably on the same level as Hutton.

Disagree about Coleman. I think most neutrals watching the EPL would see Coleman as being the better player, he would certainly command a much higher transfer fee. However most people haven't seen the Alan Hutton that we know and love, not least because he's seen very litle first team action in the EPL for a season or two. We know what the White Cafu is capable of and it's great to see him getting back to regular first team action.

I think the group's going to be very tight, certainly I don't think there's a lot between us and the Irish even if they are not a strong as they once were.

  12. Bit surprised at Frank McAvennie supporting the union though. The last time I saw him he was helping a foodbank take in donations near Firhill before the game against Celtic last autumn. Good on him for that, but I would have thought that that experience might have made him question the way things are in this country.

Not sure footballers are best known for joined up thinking when it comes to politics!
