I wouldn't measure wither of them on a saudi panto show performance

On another note I struggle to watch these saudi shows. It's one massive celeb bash to massage a rich cunts ego, it has fuck all to do with the sport.  🤢 🤮

I note the woman who oversaw the Newcastle takeover says she reckons a Saudi team will be in the Champions League sooner rather than later. Money talks.

  2. Both look uninspiring. I'm gobsmacked people actually get paid to come up with some of these designs. But we all have different opinions.

I know matches are a while ahead but I dare say they'll be calls for us not to play one of these teams unless something changes in the meantime.

How has Calvin Harris kept his accent?

When Calvin Harris picked up his Brit Award, a familiar question resurfaced.

A number of people took to social media to express their surprise that he was Scottish - and how strong his accent remained.

In the past, some have asked how he has retained his Dumfries tones when others leave the town for a couple of months and lose theirs entirely.

According to language experts, the question is an interesting one but without an "easy, one layered" answer.

Harris - born Adam Wiles - grew up and went to school in Dumfries and Galloway but his musical career quickly saw him move away and he has not lived in Scotland for many years.

And yet, when he speaks, it still sounds pretty familiar to most Doonhamers.

It is not uncommon, of course, for Scottish celebrities to see their accent put under the microscope.

Sheena Easton is often held up as an example of someone who quickly lost the sounds of her homeland while Sean Connery was seen as the flipside of that - keeping his accent despite a multitude of roles demanding he play someone from outside Scotland.

But has Harris retained his accent and, if so, how might he have done so?

Are they going to do another exclusive about how David Beckham has retained his English accent?

😊 As an aside, can't get over how stunning just about everyone is. Don't remember athletes always looking like that (no disrespect intended, they're all obviously in peak physical condition!)

*sorry @Hertsscotmeant to quote you there...

Better fitting kit plus more cameras, more close ups, make athletes more aware of their appearance. Even Noah Lyles had his nails painted!

Correct it is. However, the amount of overweight Scots who then tend to rely on the already overburdened NHS it then impacts on others.

And I'm not convinced we always have as much 'freedom' as we think, when people have never learnt to cook because of family or lack of lessons in school, when good food is expensive, when all the 'bad' stuff is cheap, when we're bombarded with ads for takeaways and processed food, how much real choice do we have? We choose what we 'want' but 'wants' can be manufactured by hidden persuaders otherwise these companies wouldn't spend so much on advertising.

  7. Excellent stuff by Kerr, good stuff by Reekie (nice to see her get a medal on the world stage but I wonder if she'll be a bit disappointed).

    Other takes: Bol is phenomenal!

Frigging hilarious reading Scottish Tories spout their bile in Aberdeen over the last few days. Best of all was MSP Tory Murdo Fraser calling for the next election  to campaign on the SNP government's shocking record in government and not on Westminster matters which he recognises the Tory record in power is indefensible. 🤣

You'd think if the Scots Tories had any decent ideas how to run a country they might have shared them with their mates in Westminster who have run the UK into the ground.

It literally says at the end of the article that 'plain porridge oats will not be subject to any restriction' but hey, any chance to paint the Scottish Government in a bad light and whip up a bit of anti-SNP hysteria.

  10. We were there in the morning, not particularly star studded but still good fun, very different vibe to watching football or even rugby. Unfortunately I missed this evenings action as I was at an adoption meeting for our local SNP candidate. Still good stuff by Kerr. I don't think 3000 is Muir's preferred distance but Reekie looked good in qualifying.

I thought the other jury had no one like him and thats why it wasn’t unanimous on their end . I felt the young girl who ended up making the ‘10’ required was kinda pushed into that decision in the same way some would argue that Ricky had pressured some on his jury.

I would agree with that. I felt on the whole that jury was more reasoned up to that point, not projecting their own emotions and listening more to one another. However at the end, given the gravity of the decision they needed to make there was a feeling of 'Oh, come on you're letting us all down. Just make a decision so we can all get home for our tea'!

Ps Still don’t understand why the jury had the same clothes on every episode when it was supposed to be over a number of days.  I only noticed in the second episode when the woman in the bright red dress had it on again, so I made a point of checking what others were wearing,  and none of them had changed clothes the entire series 🤔

We noticed that as well. Did they actually shoot it over four days? In my very limited experience of jury duty it was very drawn out. I know they used the actual words of the trial but I wonder if they were edited down in order to fit things into less than four hours.

  13. Wife and I both went for murder. I guess being schoolteachers just breeds cynicism and a default position of not believing anyone!!

I don't think he set out to kill her, he didn't wake up in the morning thinking I'm going to do her in. Something within him snapped, the issue for me is did that mean he didn't intend to kill her/didn't know what he was doing at the time and I felt there was enough evidence to suggest in the moment he could have stopped. He wasn't a bad person but did something very bad. I would be wanting clarification from the judge on the precise difference between manslaughter and murder.

If Ricky was the big loud mouthed businessman I wasn't a fan but felt he made good points about 'reasonable doubt'. I also felt that whilst, if you're convinced of the verdict you've got every right to argue that, he nonetheless came across as bullying others into sharing his viewpoint.

I did feel that the victim didn't really get fairly represented. She may well have had issues, been manipulative, provoking etc. but I'm not sure whether that was ever challenged.

It's a reminder that no human system if justice is perfect and hopefully dies open up a discussion about the effectiveness of the jury system. I know there has been some discussion about having juryless trials for some sexual offences and I am sympathetic to that.

  14. I've only been on jury duty once. It was in Chelmsford Crown Court but obviously not the court used in the programme that I think is the old building. Unfortunately due to the defendant's ill health (we heard him being physically sick outside the courtroom) we never reached the point of having to decide whether he was guilty or not.

What I would say, though, is perhaps meal-deals aren't the worst culprit (unless we're including the infamous 'Munchie Box'!). For instance, why not focus on regulating the amount of sugar that is added to processed or pre-prepared foods? (Possibly because the SG has no control over that).

Also, compared to even twenty years ago there are a lot more places selling food that's tasty but bad for you. Takeaways and eateries are everywhere. I think down in London they were looking at limiting the number of takeaways located near schools to try and address issues with childhood obesity. I know this is "nannying" too but at least it might get to the root of the issue quicker.

It is complex. Taxing 'unhealthy' foods is one measure but there's other things that can be done, control of advertising etc.

I would like to see more emphasis on food in school. We had a Home Ec. teacher leave last year and it was a nightmare trying to replace her, pupils spent months without cooking. The impression that I got from others was that this wasn't a surprise and that there weren't enough Home Ec teachers being trained.

Another thing is school meals. I left a school that, I suspect, was highly unusual but shows what can be done. The meals were so good that pupils stayed in and sat down and really enjoyed them. I'll try and post a photo at some point. Where I am now, none of the choices are inspiring, lots of kids leave school at lunchtime, local businesses do well but I'm not sure it's getting young people into healthy eating habits. Add in the expectation fuelled by Deliveroo adverts that takeaways are a regular occurrence and we've got a problem.

Not sure where to put this, but FFS.  Not content with trying to commit electoral suicide with the genderwoowoo shite, the SG are now proposing restrictions on a load of foods.  Given that most of them seem to be excessively fat, this is hypocritical in the extreme, and nutritional nonsense as well.  Do they go out of their way to damage their electoral hopes deliberately or are they just utterly thick?

An independence party should be seeking independence, not trying to turn us all into some sort of health freaks.  and porridge FFs, it's one of the healthiest breakfasts you can have.  Who thinks up this flawed shite?

Without commenting on the specifics, surely governments have a duty to promote good health in the population, smoking bans, minimum pricing, wearing seatbelts etc. An unhealthy population hits the economy due to days lost because of illness and also puts more strain in the NHS.
