    Watching Stoke v Brighton.

Gilmour’s much acclaimed high pass success rate is definitely not in evidence today.

Having a very poor game and given the ball away several times.

91% successful pass rate according to opta. Guess if you make a 100 passes in a game you will make more mistakes than someone making 30

Ok. If he was that good it makes you wonder why he has been a substitute in more than half their games in the championship and not a nailed on starter. Adams and Dykes will definately go. No problem with that. Just saying there has to be the option of a goalscorer in form like Shankland to get a chance.

Their other striker Armstrong is on fire.

He scored 25 in 124 games in the premier league.Trouble is he is playing in the league below now and has scored 6 from 22.Take from that what you will i suppose.

More than half are substitute appearances though, goals per minute would mean a goal every two games. 2 assists this season which is 2 more than Shankland.

I concur regarding Doak. Maybe this was just me, but when I saw we were lining up against a Man City player (Oscar Bobb) it did give me pause. Even though he had only played a handful if games for them. You immediately think he must have something about him if he is in their squad. Turns out he was their best player that night. Doak would have the same effect.

And, you're right, even if Shankland is only up there to distract defenders, I'd rather it was someone you know is sharp in front of goal that can net the odd half chance. Adams especially is terrible at that. Dykes has shown it in glimpses, but it's too few and far between.

Pretty sure Adams has scored more goals at a decent level than Shankland even if you include Ross County and Livingston as decent opposition.

Good post. I generally agree with all of this.

Clarke needs to start thinking for the future too. It is a bit like the tail-end of Craig Brown's era I feel where players are being stuck with perhaps too long and a time will come when our younger players haven't been given a chance and a vacuum is left once likes of Armstrong, Dykes and more are past it or retired. I'd like to see the likes of Ferguson and Shankland given chances now and if they do well it creates healthy competition and forces first team regulrs to not be complacent and needed to up their levels to keep their place in the side.

Shankland and Dykes are pretty much the same age.

Never been a fan of McKenna as I always thought of him as a bit of a bombscare with overrated attributes apart from his physicality.

He really doesn't look to be getting much of a game for Forrest at the moment. He really could do fan worse than a return to Scotland with the OF if he's looking to get in the squad

Frozen out a Forest due to refusal to sign a new contract.

I wonder if he doesn't have an injury or some personal problems because his form has gone off a cliff. Dykes looks like he might be going down with QPR and, while he does a job for us, most teams want strikers who actually score. Good luck to him but I'm beginning to think Dykes has massively overachieved in football.

I still think Clarke doesn't fancy Shankland for some reason as he brought Dykes on against Norway instead of him (though he got a few minutes at the end).

I’ve been critical of shankland in the past. But even I think he has improved rapidly over the last few weeks.

Pretty sure  Clarke will feel the same way and be more likely to play him in the future

Imo Gilmour starts alongside McGreggor with McTom and McGinn behind a striker in the games against similar or worse opposition.

For games against the top tier sides then Gilmour likely drops out, McTom moves deeper and either Christie or Armstrong come into the attacking mid role. This is because both Christie and Armstrong provide really good energy, pressing and defensive cover.

From Fergusons showing so far he isnt as much of a threat as McTom and he doesnt work as hard as Christie / Armstrong so its hard to see how he gets in until that changes.

On a plus side, as others have mentioned, to have somebody playing well in Italy as a sub (often unused) shows how far we have come.

Who do we have in Italy playing as a substitute? Don’t think Ferguson has missed a game yet this season.

That is my point though. Parental persuasion counts for very little. It is what is in the individual's heart, mind and soul that counts. Listening to a dad waxing on about how he played for Scotland to a child born and brought up in England won't cut much ice with a kid intent on taking his own path in life especially if their lives have been predominantly spent in England growing up alongside English mates etc. There will be a few who may be swayed from a very young age such as McTominay if their dad displayed a real passion for Scotland but in some siblings case their parents may not be as forceful or encouraging and happy to let their son choose especially if that child has shown traits of allegiance to England.

    Have you got any children?

    This bit.

Friendly in 2018,we lost 1-0,official attendance 20,000 I would say 5000 was nearer the mark. Now I think about it was supporters club  points for home games then. Didn't think so.

To all the newbies unless you sat though that sort of shit don't moan about not getting tickets for games now.

Never really understood this. You are there to watch Scotland, not the opposition.

Depends how much it costs you money and time wise, all competitive games, yes.

Friendly against Estonia, nah France nah Something in between maybe.

Costa Rica definitely, so I can moan about anyone that doesn't go as long as I have been since we last played them.

    Only the elite were there

Has McT not been one of the few highlights in the gloom for Man U?

His goals have, his performances haven't.

If it wasn't for injuries he would have barely started a game this season. He's being pretty much asked to play in a position he sucks at.

Thankfully he plays further forward for us in the couple of games he has been used in his Man United role he has been pretty poor.

If you ignore the trolls on the Man United forum and just look at the ratings given by all the supporters , only Rashford and Mount are worse than him.

The attendance at the Northern Ireland friendly will be interesting: unattractive opponents versus still on a high from qualifying.

I think the take-up for the Nations League will depend on the draw. If we get some "glamour" ties with some big names that do well at the Euros in the summer then take-up will be healthy both home and away.  If we get Israel again, not so much.

Hadn't taken into account that we might do well at the euros😉

Man U are miles off the title.

Where they are at currently McTominay is close to their best player. He’s easily good enough for Aston Villa, Newcastle, Spurs and other clubs in and around the top 6.

Not sure were you sit in Old Trafford, but your pretty much on your own there.

Harvesting has been there, but never found it to be on the levels people think it is......

There was a period around the Euro 2008 campaign where we started getting some really silly low amount of tickets, but these were then off set some games we got well over what was required, and this did send people into a panic.

Every time the SSC have done 100% pick up's, and there has been quite a few examples over the decades, there has never been talk of 100's of unclaimed for tickets (I had a chat with someone at the SSC years ago, and they said in times like this its never more than a dozen chancers, and when they have followed up its been excuses like missed flights or something).... so its been impossible to harvest your way to a creditable amount of points, but more sneaking A point here or there over the years.

I think there might be a lot flights missed for the Northern Ireland friendly.

The nations league might be similar, it was great fun when we were playing to get a play off spot and promotion. Not sure playing Europe's elite will have the same attraction.

I think Uefa have under priced the tickets.  The correct price is the price it takes to meet demand to fill the stadium and not a seat more.

i suspect uefa could have added 50% to the ticket price and still sold out.

Could have charged more than 50% for our games and a 100 % for England games, guess the had to keep parity with other matches.

Denmark who had already qualified and could not be knocked off top.  A Scotland team that could do no better of worse than finish second.  A effective friendly.

I think I’m very realistic with where both teams and managers are in term of their relative ranking, their strengths and weaknesses.

I actually think Clarke is a very good manager, I also think that his record over the last couple of years bears comparison with Losa’s. We’ll see how good Clarke is next year when he’s managing in League A, let’s see if he does better than Losa.  We’ll see if he can perform miracles.

Let’s not forget that run of three defeats against England, Spain and France.  Most people reasonably gave Clarke a free pass because they were playing against top teams.

The only way to get better is to play better teams and to realise what you need to do to counter them.

We needed to beat Denmark to be seeded in the playoffs and the result in any competive match means something even if it is a dead rubber.

  18. 30 minutes ago, aaid said:

Apart from Spain, I can’t recall Steve Clarke achieving a victory against a team of note.

We did beat Denmark as well.

But we'll done for standing up for the women's team.

Not sure why but we are in danger of getting left behind, although there is more money floating about now so hopefully we can get back on track.

Great to hear he did well & he got nearly 30 minutes which is okay, it's the 5 to 10 minutes cameo which aren't much use to him. Like you say it seems to have taken the Ukrainian playing left back a while to win Dyche over & Patterson is 2 years younger than him so still has time.

Reckon as long as Everton don't sign another right back in January or next summer then Dyche does see Patterson as the future if not exactly the present.

Got 30 minutes, touched the ball 8 times and made 3 passes.

People see what they want to see.
