Russell Martin says Armstrong not as bad as first feared. Most probably out of their remaining fixtures, but hopeful he'll make the Euros

A bit of good news on the injury fronnt at last. Cheers for that.

Meanwhile, have no return date set for Ben Doak so that suggests he is still a long way off a return.

    😄

We're both right, Beckham did his in 2002, Rooney in 2006.

Ah yes and Beckham recovered in time to play some part as there were more medical updates on the news than you get about royalty.

How could you forget Rooney's metatarsal?  Front page news for about a month. Or Rio's knee. Going further back, Bryan Robson's head falling off on Spitting Image.

    Wasn't it Beckham with metatarsal.

The Swiss are better than they're given credit for. Tournament regulars who often reach the knockout stages, they're not a 'big name' side but at this point I don't fancy our chances against them.

We have proven on our day we can win against top notch  sides in the last two years or so. For evidence of that look to our wins against Spain, Denmark and Ukraine. However, that was with us with a full strength side and everyone on form.

I'm more optimistic and (maybe naively) still thinking 'if' the SNP take a hammering rather than 'when'. It's a possibility but it's by no means inevitable.

Starmer is not liked, Labour are basically Tory-lite and Scots know they have let Scotland down so badly, so many times in the past. The Tories have been an absolute disaster. The Lib Dems are a non-entity, once upon a time you might vote for them if you wanted to rejoin the EU but not now.

The big challenge for the SNP is to inspire people and get the vote out, and there's obviously work to be done. The way I view it is that the GE is basically a massive opinion poll. Even if the SNP won every Scottish seat they still won't hold sway and none of their policies are ever going to be enacted by a Westminster Government but  if Unionist parties gain seats it will undoubtedly be used against the cause of Scottish independence.

    Agreed.

I am hoping Scots are not duped into voting Labour by their promise it is the only way to get rid of the Tories. That is just utter BS. Labour could fail to win a seat in Scotland they'd still win a majority at Westminster.

What are our expectations now? I"ve gone from thinking we could actually do something in this tournament to thinking we'll do really well to get third place and scrape out of the group.  That's assuming Hickey doesn't make it or makes it and isn't really fit.

An injury to another key player and I can't see us doing anything.  Maybe just being pessimistic but there is only so much a coach can do with championship-level players.

    I am much like you.

We had the potential to get out of the group as, when all things fall right for us, we are a really decent side. That needs us to be at full strength with all our key players in form and putting in good performances for us and being in good form for their clubs. All of that has not really happened over the last six months. With a bit of luck and things going our way we may get lucky and still progress. Here's hoping.

OK, so as it stands and assuming Hickey makes it:

Gunn, 2 from Gordon, Clark & Kelly

Robertson, Tierney, Porteous, Hendry, Souttar, McKenna, Hickey, Ralston

Christie, McGregor, Gilmour, McTominay, McGinn, McLean

    Adams, Shankland, Dykes

That makes 20. Has it been  confirmed yet that squads are 26?

If so, that’s 6 places up for grabs. I’d take Fraser, other possibilities are McBurnie, Doak, Turnbull, Conway, Johnston & Cairney. Wouldn’t be surprised if Clarke takes Greg Taylor. Anyone I’ve forgotten? (Gauld has no chance).

If Hanley is back to fitness he will be as well as Fraser. Pretty good chance McCrorie will make it as back up to Hickey in case he breaks down. This would take it up to 23. If it is to be 26 then I'd name another striker so maybe McBurnie or Conway. If Doak is fit have him along as a wildcard and I have a feeling Greg Taylor would then make it to make up the 26.

    Correct

Everybody and the neighbour's dug knows this

The only way now is through the ballot box at every election there is or a violent uprising

The SNP lose credibility by not acknowledging that

Big election results will do much more good than bad though so strong SNP or any other independence supporting parties results in elections is far more preferable than not.

Let’s be honest, a referendum is off the table for this parliament and the next, we are looking at the earliest 8years time in MHO. The vehicle for Independence has been taken over by a bunch of lunatics, we will need time to mend this then go from there

A referendum is off the table full stop. Regardless of who is in charge of the SNP or any independence-backing parties. The only way to another referendum is by Westminster agreeing to it and that is not going to happen.

Fraser, Turnbull, Mcrorie, Ralston, Cairney, Forrest and Doak all in serious contention of being in Germany. Mad to think!

Fraser and Ralston were a good bet to make the squad anyway. Doak is still out injured so cannot see how it can be said he is in serious contention. The rest I will give you.

Has he even recovered from his injury?

    No.

I am going on record now as saying this is the worst run of injuries to our squad going into a major tournament ever.

There's no way Clarke isn't taking him to Germany, even if he doesn't score again for the rest of the season

Agreed. Ludicrous to even suggest such a thing considering how thin on the ground we are for options.

Did Johnston put it over the bar? I seem to remember their keeper making a save that was shortlisted for save of the tournament. Although I was just a loon then so could've created my own version of events over the years

No it was a save. Pretty certain of that.

They don't seem to have an issue lapping up the praise from the overweight, out of condition, middle aged blokes. Or does their opinion only matter when everything is hunky dory. Lap up the praise by all means but equally accept the criticism when it is deserved.

Criticism is fine but you move on from it. Ffs that England match was seven years ago and yet people still bring it up as reason to hold something over him. That is not fine after so long.

If Patterson is out (I don't think that is certain) and Ralston and Johnstone continue to get zero minutes, it might be worth calling up Livramento (provided he's getting minutes). The argument against was that it would disrupt squad harmony, but if there are no credible replacements it should be considered.

I'm hopeful we'll still have fully fit Hickey and Patterson at the Euros but it's a worry.

No the argument, well its not really an argument just fact that Livramento's ambition and desire is to pull on the Three Lions jersey at full level.

To be honest though, that bugbear has been usurped by McTominays disallowed goal against Spain.  I know it ultimately doesn't matter but it feels like our, and his, greatest footballing moment was snatched away from us that night and I just can't let it go 😤

I know I'll get the usual tirade of 'It was offside' or 'It was a clear foul, get over it' blah, blah.  But was it fuck.  RIdiculous decision!

Yes its fair enough having angst and berating ref and UEFA for decisions. What I do not get is people holding things against Armstrong and other players of ours because an error cost us. The players give their all and errors happen and the players will be gutted enough. Do our players not get forgiven for a mistake?

  17. 7 hours ago, Kirk said:

    They play totally different positions.

Fraser has been mostly awful in his 26 caps, can't cross a ball can't go past someone.

We don't play with wingers either so waste of a jersey.

Also he's on 63k a week, fuck me football is fucked 😂

Still waiting for your suggested alternative for us who has scored muktiple goals and has a silver cap to his name.

  18. 1 hour ago, Kirk said:

Does nobody remember Ryan Fraser being absolutely honkin playing as a wing back. I canny stand him and think he's very overrated, winger that canny go past someone or cross a ball (going by previous displays) but he has been decent this season. Not sure if Clarke will take him at all

If hickey is unavailable or not 100, 💯 fit then I'd start Ralston. Steady and solid, you know what you're getting

My suggestion of Ryan Fraser was as replacement for Lewis Ferguson not Hickey or Patterson. If you can find a more suitable one with international experience and goals for us and getting games and in form then lets hear it.

  19. 2 minutes ago, Bobby Russell's Lovechild said:

I think he'll end up going to the Euros, it'll probably end up that he'll play 60 mins in the group games, so he gets his fitness up for the later stages....

Yes, hopefully, that will be the case.

  20. For me it says a lot about the fragmentation in the independence supporting parties. The people of Scotland should all be up for such events - park egos and self agendas ands show a united front for Scottish independence. Why the disagreements amongst people supposedly pulling in the same direction? We already are up against it with lack of national media support and in denial Westminster without in-fighting.

  21. Just to add that the worst that could happen is he tears his hamstring again. As far as I am aware a hamstring tear is not a career-ending injury. Worst scenario would be perhaps 4 to 6 months out but he would play again I am certain of that.
