Never seen so many ugly bastards with wan tooth in my life 😂

Haha, just thinking that. I'm hardly god's gift myself, but Jesus, some absolute mutants in there. And at least I brush my teeth.

"WE ARE THE PEOPLE" if the people are bald, chinless, 20 stone, broken biscuits for teeth and an IQ of 60.

  2. It's not 100% full proof, but a good wee tip for conversational Gaelic is just add aichean/achan to plural words e.g treanaichean, pleanaichean, planaichean, busaichean, etc. And even if you are having a chat with someone in Gaelic and cannont think of the Gaelic word - make up your own or just insert the Scots/English word - so you don't switch over straight to English or stop.

You hear loads of folk doing this, and its just a part of the language. Some purists might dislike it, but its either that, or NO ONE over the age of 18 will learn.

So cum oiribh a charaid leis a' Ghaidhlig

  3. Glad to hear you are enjoying it, Chaff. You can try Sabhal Mor Ostaig - you might even get on a course now, think they started in September, but they are very friendly there and might be able to squeeze you in to An Cursa Inntrigidh which is a once a week/phone tutorial course.  From the sounds of it, and that's a fair slog you have been doing - I reckon you could definitely be able to cope with ACI.

I did up to Cursa Comais, and started on the degree program, but work got in the way and I'm shockingly had a very lazy Gaelic 2021, so I'll need to get watching Alba more again to retain a bit.

It's a brilliant language, and you'll love learning the names, sites, places etc of many parts of Scotland and understanding what they mean rather than their bastardised Scots/English name which often doesn't tell us anything.

I'm doing Spanish on Duolingo right now, and having a bit of Gaelic and Icelandic is definitely helping the learning process of trying to add another language.

Feel free to PM, or email the college. They are really helpful and nice people.

  4. Club Brugge were great to watch on Wednesday. Really exciting and talented team, their big number 90 up front, I'd have paid £40m to sign him at full time, what a player - I think 7 of their 11 were under 26 too.

Hendry was excellent. There was one error that I can recall, the rest of it very very good. I hope his confidence is through the roof, he deserves all the success and praise.

Ralston did well in spells today, I fear he'll end up on the bench even with this goal scoring prowess- he should be called up for his ability to score corners and headers.

Montgomery was excellent. Turnbull? Not seen enough but is he a superstar in the SPFL but pretty average against better players? I'm open minded and like I said, not seen enough but the times I have in big games I've been a bit meh about him.

Maybe, but to be honest i couldn't give a rats arse what neutrals think.Their opinion doesn't matter to me.I loved it.End of.

    Agreed.

I was meaning the same like the Greeks didn't care at all what is or others thought of watching them if they won every game 1-0.

  6. The performance was not bad at all, but I am surprised at how many are raving about it. We probably were horrible to watch for a neutral or Austrian last night, but then again, who cares what they may think. The Greeks certainly didn't when they won Euro 2004.

Last night was an excellent and huge psychological victory. And Clarke, to get 6 pts out of 9 is a very good return, one we would all have dreamed of but rarely expected, so well done the team and coaches. Who needs to score too many, if we can scuff in two 1-0 wins, and I will certainly take it. Last night was such a pleasant surprise, similar to Serbia (a) in the sense we achieved a big result away from home against a team who are near enough/pretty much better than us - if going by the last 24 months.

We've had our fair rub of the green at times, and our penalty ratio is sublime! For the game, it was a nervy but very excellent defensive performance. Austria had one chance that I genuinely feared for, well two - that late free kick from Alaba- but we limited them to basically punting it up the park at times, and although we still punt it one too many times, its slowly changing, with us trying to retain the ball. Gilmour is a HUGE influence on this side, McGregor as well - he gets a lot of unfair criticism IMO- another solid, outstanding performance in a Scotland shirt. He probably doesn't have the character, but he could be a less aggressive but more skillful Scott Brown for us!

Grant Hanley is becoming one of the first names on the team sheet. He's been outstanding of late, and definitely our best defender or most in form one at present (outwith KT, Robbo) Hendry had another accomplished game as well as SOD at right back - he made one mistake that I saw, absolutely sound the rest of the game and that great run would have been magical if it had went in.

If we are to be as good defensively as we were yesterday, Dykes is a perfect man for Adams. Perfect in the sense that he runs about makes a nuisance of himself, and is very good and holding up play, knocking balls in or to the channels. His finishing isn't great, but if we can take every third chance then I'd certainly take it.

Its Scotland though, we still have Israel to come. They'll come out flying for that - knowing our next three games are Moldova, Faroes and Denmark - and pretty much a draw, and two wins will near enough secure second spot. So, we need to be careful, and they are a good side. I'm a little concerned about the Faroes (a), they are a very good minnow and we seen how Denmark pushed them all the way, and they beat Moldova by scoring more goals than us. Then again, let's see what happens after Israel - if we win - we could afford to even draw there in Tórshavn.

Havering on, but if you were to say to me 20 minutes into the Denmark game, we would end the week with 6 pts and Austria with 3...etc,

A remarkable turnaround, a huge achievement 'ITS IN OUR HANDS' Yikes!

  7. If you were the coach, how would you set the team up for Tuesday?

It's not a 'free hit' at all, BUT, I do believe a draw wouldn't be the end of the world (if Denmark don't lose to Israel in Copenhagen). Although I wouldn't set out to play for the draw, or defensively like we did in Copenhagen. The only time we have set up cautiously and got something was the England game, even then we are more cavalier in these games, is it due it being a non-foreign opponent and playing in a stadium and against players we know from the EPL etc?

I'd start a similarish line up to Saturday, and go for it. Soaking up pressure with our team will lead us to concede. We HAVE been here before. We went to Slovakia in the Nations League needing 1 pt out of 6 to win that group and choked. Slovakia at the time were on an awful run, they had won only once in 90 minutes in ten games! Austria whilst nowhere near as in the doldrums as the Slovaks were then, have just 9 goals in two games to Denmark and Israel and have two key players out for this, plus who knows what knocks they might have from Tel Aviv? They are a good side, and underperforming at present, we seen them in the Euros and they pushed Italy all the way in the last sixteen! So from an Austrian perspective, probably a perfect time to play Scotland and put us to the sword 2-0.

Havering on, but we have a huge chance on Tuesday to pretty much knock them out, and make a huge cup final at Hampden against Israel.

I've seen us feck up too many times in these circumstances, so I'm not getting ahead of myself.

Saying that, if we have as good players as some of us and the media think, then these are games we need to make a statement in and WIN. When did we last go abroad and win. A draw is not the end of the world, but let's change the script and go for it.

We'd then have Israel (h) Faroes (a) followed by Moldova (a) and Denmark (h).

Knowing us, we'll need to beat Denmark by 2 goals or something to get second, but how refreshing would it be if we had secured the playoffs by the Denmark game!

  8. I think we'll probably win in Chisinau, maybe an uglier version of last night, but the Faroes away will be tough. Israel put four past them, but I think that was more of a in-form Israel rather than the Faroes being walked over.

The Faroes had some chances last night, and whilst they just missed out on an impressive result, they are the best of the minnows in my opinion. They were two legs away from the group stages of the Europa League last year, and regularly get in to the qualifying rounds in August before eventually crashing out (a bit like our teams outside the OF).

Then again, let's see what Tuesday and Israel are like first.

You'd hope they are working on it. What else are double and triple headers for, than opportunity to concentrate.

Especially on days like today, when it'll no doubt be a recovery day.

  10. Good post.

All three are very good at different things, but poor at the other things the other two are good at it. If that makes sense? I don't think any of the three are good enough to improve in these areas they are not good at. I hope I am wrong, but again, we'll need to keep looking for a prolific striker I think.

These 3 are valuable squad players, but I don't think we can rely on Nisbet/Adams or Dykes scoring 6-7 in qualifying. I hope I'm wrong, and it could be the difference between qualifying or not.

  11. There were positives to last night. From about the 10th minute mark to the 85th or so, we controlled the game, it really could have been 4 or so at half-time and if we had players who knew how to score then it would have possibly end up 6-0 or more!

We created a lot, and cut through them at ease, but let's remember it was Moldova - one of the worst teams in Europe. Israel, Austria and even the Faroes will not allow us those opportunities and we only took one of them! Whilst it was good to score, we got a fair bit of luck with it, the keeper (who had a good game overall) possibly should have done better with the first shot and luckily for us Dykes managed to scramble it home.

    Positives

Patterson - a nervy start, but settled in to the game. A very exciting prospect, had some great lunging tackles too although the way football is going, will be suspended every 4 game for us? He did really well for his first start, and under a fair bit of pressure. I would start him again on Tuesday, and we'll see how good he is against a better opposition.

Hanley - as he ages, he's becoming rock solid for us. He (touch wood) seems to have cut out the wee mistakes he made when he was younger and seems more focused on just defending. Brilliant performance, and slowly becoming one of the first names on the team sheet, IMO. Only issue is his heading, he often finds space in the box and free headers, but every time they are right over the bar!

Hendry - my Celtic pal was full of the ''I'll drive him to Belgium, he's the worst Celtic player I have ever seen in the flesh," nonsense about 2 years ago. I know Dees pals as well who weren't that keen on him. If so, Belgium has clearly worked for him, he's still raw, and at times he does get caught pushing on (not necessarily a bad thing, especially playing with 5 at the back, but against bigger teams, I am not sure) Anyhoos, he did very well last night and I thought he was good v Netherlands in that friendly too, a good addition to the squad.

Gilmour - just marvelous. He's my first name of the team sheet for Tuesday. Just a brilliant player. Helps his defence out, and he's not scared or nervous to take the ball often with 2 Moldovans very close to him. Really wish he scored, but hopefully that's a part of his game he can get better at. I have no idea if he's a good finisher or not, but what he certainly is, is a great midfielder and we are lucky to have him.

    Concerns

We are not going to qualify if we don't take chances. We have three strikers who are half-decent at one thing then seem to be poor at the rest. I am really undecided on Nisbet, for every clever ball or run he does the next one is offside, or he'll try too much and lose it. Dykes is very good at being a nuisance and winning balls with his head, holding off defenders although the rest - timing runs ; scoring ; playing the through ball e.g Nisbet was wide open yesterday and unmarked and he was too greedy. Adams has some good link up play, skills, and clever runs, but we can't rely on him to score goals. He's the best of the three, but him up top on his own is no use at all.

Why are we trying to punt it in to the net every time? Robertson did it twice, so did Christie at the end. Tierney tried a couple of power blasters as well. Adams' deflected shot was going straight to the keeper, the deflection made it look like a better strike than it was.

We are relying too much at times on the wing backs.

Lots of aimless balls in to the box that either went straight to a red shirt or Dykes or Nisbet weren't clever enough to making the run on to it.

By all means, it was a decent performance and if we had won 3-0, I imagine the rose-tinted outlooked would have been in full flow.

We won! We got 3 pts. Israel hammered Austria 5-2 (I had that on the laptop, along with the Faroes - who were really decent and unlucky not to get a point - defended well and had a few chances too) Austria were pushing on for a third, and Israel picked them off on the counter, Israel looked almost like scoring every time they broke.

I still think 1-1 or so on Tuesday would be a decent result (hoping Denmark beat Israel 3-0 or so) It would then take us to a cup final-ish against Israel in October! BUT, considering Austria have injuries, possible suspensions? and have been walloped 5-2 and 0-4 in this group, we should keep a similar attacking approach to this game. The sitting off never works, I hate the 'free hit' stuff, but we have a very good opportunity to almost knock Austria out on Tuesday - and if we sit back, try and keep it tight til HT bullshit, we'll end up losing.

Overall lots of decent spells, and valuable game time for the likes of Patterson, Gilmour and even Turnbull winning another cap. Defence is still a worry at times, and a better team would have made Gordon work a lot harder, but I'd say content with that 7/10 - goalscoring is a huge worry. Even at 1-0, and even with Moldova's lack of opportunites, it would have just taken a late corner, everybody up and a scrambled leveller for it to be a very embarrassing result and us pretty much out of it.

If we can somehow score, we'll be a very interesting team to follow.

Now on to Tuesday and hopefully a similar approach from Clarke with better games for the front three, Christie and McGinn hopefully is fit.

  12. I like most of Clarke's squad selections and like him as a person, his attitude to the press is great, TBH e.g you can tell he hates them or can't be fúcked with them.

Yet his tactics, selection and shite he comes out with at times after a disappointing game is baffling.

He's obviously well liked with the squad - or the squad all like each other? They seem to be having fun, playing together and not too many call offs these days, but its clear he's not getting anything like the best out of these players. He makes some strange decisions, and is far too slow to change! He often doesn't make his first sub until the 60th minute!

He's surprised me before, so he's got these next two fixtures really for me. I have a horrible feeling we'll end up with 2 or 3 pts, and he'll be talking of the positives and the group still being open in October.

It's quite odd really because after the Kazakhstan game at Hampden - I thought we were on our way to playing attractive football and turning it around - then we got the luck of Covid in the Nations League with the Czech C game etc (which we really struggled to win) and somehow ended up losing a group we were top off, where we needed 1 pt out of 6 to win it! Not going up in the Nations League probably is a good thing, as we've had just lost 4 games to a Spain, France group ; but still to choke like that is pretty horrendous really.

The only thing Clarke has done, is make us harder to get thumped by, e.g we would have lost 4 or 5 under McLeish on Wednesday.

  13. TBH, I thought 4 at the start of the week as the minimum. Depending on Israel - Austria (a draw would be perfect) we don't actually have to win in Vienna, although we should be aiming to win games like that if we are to qualify or even get to playoffs for WCs etc and no doubt the Austrians will be saying the same, they are a better team than us.

We lost 2-0 in Copenhagen, we may well lose 5-0 to Denmark at Hampden; but so far we're plus -2 against their -4 v Denmark. So even a 2/3-0 win tonight, might help us greatly with GD.

6 points would be a very good return considering the first 30 mins against Denmark. Especially if we put in a decent performance in the next two matches.

3 points we would be near enough out of it. Maybe not, but we would be requiring magic e.g beat Denmark at home and results to go our way.

Anything less than 4 and we are oot basically.

  14. Not particularly looking forward to this. I'm sure once the game kicks off that will change, but we never do well in these games.

Hopefully Clarke proves us wrong, and we put in a great performance. This is an ideal match for the likes of Gilmour, Robertson, Adams, Paterson etc can show us what they are about.

Have a feeling, it'll be a very unconvincing 2-0 win with Moldova having a few chances as well. 0-0 at half-time possibly. Don't rule out Moldova scoring either like Kazakhstan did to us at Hampden.

  15. Much improved second half, but give yourself a shake if you think that wasn't Denmark allowing us/sitting off us to rest up for the next two games. Still, there were some moments during that last 25-30 mins that can be put down as promising, but in truth, we are a poor team threatening to be average in short spells of a game.

TBH, I think Clarke has had a fair bit of luck as well both in getting us to the Euros by a lottery ; the ref certainly did us a favour tonight, we seemed to get a lot of the decisions.

Our attacking choices are horrible at this level. Lydon Dykes isn't the answer, he's nowhere near good enough to play at this level. Our attacking prose from corners is on par with the likes of Moldova! Absolutely terribly out of depth.

We cannot come back either. If we go, 1-0 against a top team, chances are the game is over, but t 2-0, it is! Even 1-0 down against a minnow, we might well win the game but we'll really struggle and it'll only be 2-1.

Then again, 2-0 isn't a bad result on the scheme of things. Denmark are waltzing this group. So in losses to Denmark we are +2 in GD against the Austrians, but that will count for nothing if we don't get at least a win on Saturday ; and a positive result in Austria.

Just watching the end of the Moldova game, and Austria are leading 1-0 yet still pushing on. You just know when we go there, if we are 2-1 up or so, we'll be hanging on by the skin of our teeth like we were against Israel, Cyprus away, and not attacking at all.

We haven't even been in their penalty box . These games are always tough but we have offered nothing going forward.  Get McKenna off replace with Hendry and throw Christie on fir McLean and have a bit of a go

He's too slow to change. He'll do that in the 60th minute when its too late and possibly even more.
