Have the misfortune of being in a hotel bar in ayia napa; watching the end of the getafe v barcelona game

enough to make me take up croquet or quoits ; may just be moden football tho as Ukraine v england was pretty boring too but the theatrics in a 0-0 (spanish) game are hard to believe

athletici v real now on ; but not interested

unfortunate thing is lower leagues seem to follow the same pattern of saftey first / possession football - recent trips to cove have proved that

maybe am just stuck in the last millennium pre tiki taki era

    Doh

just read thru posts ; bit out of context there…… i blame the all inclusive drinks

I've chucked it mate - absolutely pointless watching if TMO isn't calling that as a red card especially after yesterday's.

    Am not disagreeing with that

if you cant control your own line outs though

  4. owner of Meeting Pub appears to be happy .......

great staff & service too for being so busy - some places just too hot & stuffy to be indoors - nice open place with view of beach and palm trees

walked to/from game last night - didn't see that many folk ; so bit of a mini march ..... beer at bbq at bottom of hill to the stadium

Very good points. If we look back to circa 2007, we had a really good core of 13 or 14 players. But just a couple of injuries or suspensions was disastrous. A quick google check shows that Hutton, McCulloch, Brown and Hartley were all missing for that fateful night in Georgia. Resulting in us playing Murty and Pearson, with a threadbare bench. If we'd had the depth we do now back then, who knows what might have been.

Nowadays, we have loads of talent that can't even get in the squad.

almost as bad as calling up a couple of 16/17 year olds ...... ?

And if we add in kumnio's "Must have seen" rule then I will substitute two Ronaldo's for Eusebio and Pele. I'm not sure if I ever saw Beckenbauer play live, but I once saw him at an airport, so I'm counting that. 🤣

    was he sweeping up ?

turns out as a kid I saw Denis Law playing for man city v dons in a friendly  - I read many years later he was allowed to captain them as returning to his home town - not sure if he played at pittodrie at any other time  - I know there was a few internationals there too back then - 73 ish I think

Today I finally received the last jersey in my Scotland collection from 1986 to present day.  This has taken me six years of purposeful collecting to complete.  I was caught up in 2018 World Cup fever, convinced we were going to qualify and I decided over the latter half of that qualification campaign I wanted to set a goal for my collection.  I decided the starting point would be the 1986 Home and Away Umbro's because those are my earliest memories as a young boy of football tops when it came to Scotland.  As an aside, I do have fond memories of a hand me down Aberdeen 83 top from my oldest cousin, that went to my brother and then to me.

I have been fortunate with a few re-release's, mainly the Scotland Leisure's from 1990, both the Purple and the Pink variants.  I have acquired a few knockoffs, maybe 7, but I would scoop up a lot from Eastern Europe and also grabbed some bargains whenever there was a refresh.  My main goal was to get them in sizes that would fit me, but I had to make do as my budget or patience wouldn't stretch especially as I got down to the last half a dozen.

I wanted the collection to be complete, there are maybe two that I am not happy with because of some markings but I am sufficiently satisfied with it as it is.  How much did this cost, I am not entirely sure, the most expensive item is my 1990 Home that cost me about 100 quid, as I was towards the end I thought I have to.  I don't think anyone outside of a Scotland fan would consider this collection valuable, perhaps a jersey collector would find it interesting. Not for any hopes of getting rich, I do intend to do a YT series on them, talking about the history of each jersey, the win/loss rate, notable events, key players and so on but that will take me some time to build up more history before I embark on that project.

With all that said, I wanted to share the pictures with you in the hopes you may enjoy remembering some good times, memorable matches or times with your friends and family.

I recall the 86 away top being a very pale yellow ; not the sunny look ….

maybe it was just the tv picture though of that awful game in iceland

Oppenheimer is a bit too long - it's almost two films in one, the first bit being about the development of the A-bomb and the second part being about the McCarthyist demonisation of Oppenheimer and the witch hunt against him.  I think a large proportion of the population won't particularly enjoy it, but the acting is excellent and it's worth sticking with it.

    agree

thought the shaggin scenes were bit out of context too

    - just watched "living" starring bill nighy last night - seemingly a remake of a Japanese original

decent I thought - but again ; rave reviews everywhere

I do tend to get a bit too obsessed about historical detail/.accuracy etc on stuff though - like the livery of the trains etc -drives the wife mental ,,,,, and the fact they left waterloo crossed the thames to face county hall ; err no

Just finished Succession. Absolutely fantastic telly! Probably the best thing I’ve watched since The Wire. At the moment I’m struggling to think of anything to criticise!

same for me ; best on tv since Mad Men in my book though

its interesting how things have developed since the start of the 'movie budget ' tv series

    - there was some of that epic mini series stuff back in the 80s , north & south , and the ww2 one with Robert Mitchum but all seemed a bit hart to hart / love boat cheesy in comparison to late 90s onwards ....

So been trying to get the fan card.

ID number. I put passport number

Fill everything else out use my hotel address.

It takes me to the next page.

1st ID I put photo of passport.

2nd ID put photo of Driving licence

Then use a passport photo. Then all I get is saying wrong information. I clicked the link and it doesn't put the error in English only Cypriot.  Any help would be great.

I got my passport style photo rejected twice ; i think it did give an explanation in english tho

not a white background i recall ; just kept re submitting new versions

Rory78 ... how did you manage to do this? I have a ticket in my basket and ready to checkout but I can't find my Fan Card anywhere, so I don't know my KOA number or ID.

The fan card people haven't responded to my previous email so I'm left having to call them tomorrow to discuss ... unless you can advise on how to get through the last hoop?

just got mine too - i dont know how you can get as far as the 'basket' without putting in your KOA number and ID (passport no) - when I did that it actually confirmed my name ; then allowed me to buy ticket(s) - it soon disappeared from basket though and was only showing up under a 'ticket stub' looking icon , which allowed me to download to apple/iphone wallet

tbh incredibly complex system to get a 10 euro ticket - 2 different websites ; 1 for koa/fan card , then the other (which I only found by chance today) for ticketing  - and need new login / password details

the cypriot fa website still shows ticketing details for Hampden match ,,,,,,,,

    Noticed a typo there!

ive read/heard 2 different versions of events from him ; actually think 2nd one was a quite recent podcast ...

the first one - I think your alluding to ; he was in the u-21 squad away to Turkey (I believe same trip that full team won 8-0 away / and we beat Spain 3-1 - 85)

he mentioned warming up , running to the corner flag / adjusting his shinguards to avoid going on in last few minutes - this was prob back in late 80s early 90s where he was trying to endear himself to the national support - bit like billy connolly saying he supported partick / type of thing

the more modern version is more straightforward like , he wasn't asked to sub on

cormack stayed in morrison drive,2nd block of flats to the right of the seven hillies as you look up to Ivanhoe road or the first block...cant remember...so long ago

maybe thats where he honed his 'transatlantic' accent

kind of bizarre if he's based in Georgia ; he should of picked up a more southern drawl

instead of saying 'ye ken' at the end of sentence , they use ' y'all'

I was at that one in Jacksonville too. Good stramash, bar the obvious.

I know Napa inside oot, only 20 mins fae my hoose, so can provide info for that as well if you would like.

Would recommend a wee nip through to Protaras, which is my favourite place, and only 10 minutes from Napa.

Weird seeing that word Auchinyell. 😵

I must have been on that Auchinyell Road nearly every day of the 1st 12 years of my puff.

Used to bide in Morrison Drive.

Ive only heard of Protaras tbh

checked out a lot of those places on google maps last night ; think the meeting pub is v close to my digs

i was an auchinyell gardens loon ; knew a few from morrison drive during inchgarth days - bit rougher back then - was revamped a bit late 80s early 90s i recall

Seemingly DC dave cormack hails from there …?

I lived in Larnaca for 2 years, before moving 7 minutes drive away to a village just outside.

5 years total I've been drinking aroond the toon.

There is a wee cluster of rock bars 7 or 8 seconds walk away from Finikoudes (beach front) and just around corner from Meeting Pub (obvious got to for travelling fans)

Savino is excellent. Good selection of beers. Open til 0330.

Stone Age is a 2 second walk from Savino. Open til 0300.

Dylans is a 4 second walk from Stone age. Open til 0300.

Avalon live is next door. Open til 0300.

Hot Shots is at the end of the lane where the rock bars are. More trad pub, decent. Open til 0330.

Burracho is just around corner from there. Some gas cookers. Open 0300.

The Meeting Pub itself is open til 0200. As is Old Market Street just to south of rock bars.

All Sports Bar just along the front from Meeting Pub and up a wee lane is open til 0300.

There are a few places round Ermou Square open til 2am. Full of posers like, but decent for divot watch.

Moving a wee bit further away to Stasinou (5 min walk), there is a place there Art Cafe. Despite name it has a monumental selection of super beers if you are into that. Just along from there on same road is Harrys. Ok pub, open til 0200 or 0300.

Open til 0400 is Corona Karaoke club.  Ate end of Stasinou. Always felt a bit dodgy when I've been in there. Russian

The Blue Pine is a very good pub for football and rock bands. Open til 2am, but a wee bit of a walk from front, maybe 12 mins.

Makenzy beach has a lively day and night vibe. I prefer during day, but there are places there open til 0200 and 0300 right along that strip, ammos, Lush, Rebuke and others. you can walk that 25 mins from the Fort down the front.

There are also some very interesting venues along Archiposkopou Makariou.

Beside harbour Dancing places. Area is called the Magic Roundabout. All the "pubs" look onto the roundabout.

Bizarrely, this is all shut down by 0100, which seems a touch strange.

In my village, Oroklini, there are some places open down beach front til 0300. Quuens and Whispers 😉 , next to my local which used to be 1.75 Euro a pint, but now has raised to 2.00!!! 😵

Couple of places up the village open til 0200 as well.

I have a small gathering coming over biding in a village roond corner fae my hoose. Canna wait like. 🍺

    great info cheers !

this will be my first competitive match since 0-1 loss to Belarus at Hampden under Walter Smith - only 2 games been to since were friendlies , USA in Jacksonsville . then Mexico

last competitive away would be san siro ; maybe am a jonah .....

after 4 days in Larnaca , have 4 in Ayia Napa
