Came across it on the appeals website and thought id share given peoples views in the past.

Beyond that ive no real interest other than confirming that the law has always considered it to go beyond being a Rangers fan

am not sure ive heard hearts or airdrie etc in past being called huns .... maybe rangers light or diet huns or similar ; but kind of backs up it being about rangers fans not the protestant thing .....

i read the blurb in the link - it sounded like the context it was used in was a factor ie hvn 'cvnt'

HJK had quite a few foul throws during the game, the ref was very good at where throw ins were taken but not once did he give a foul throw.

    ah well ......

i also wondered if everyone bawling "Duuuuuuuuk" when he's through on goal ; shaping to shoot , puts him off ...?

am lined up to attend the away game in Helsinki ; first Dons away since Athletico Madrid ; wallet and match ticket were dipped on the metro pre game ; then the walk thru the beer bottle shower (just arrived post rammy it turns out) - only got into stadium at half time  -so hoping for a better experience this time .......

  3. just watched the afc v helsinki highlights on you tube - all 2 mins of it - call me old fashioned ; but that's a foul throw before helsinki goal ? unless they've changed the rules on that too

The player taking the throw-in must throw the ball from behind and over the head

and he may have had a foot on the pitch...

not sour grapes ; just noticed over years how nobody cares that much

Alex Smith got rid of John Hewitt in 89 (Hewitt, along wirth Brian Irvine and Alex McLeish are about the only players who have anything good to say about Porterfield).... by 1988 standards, Celtic offered silly money that was to good to turn down for a teenager (this angered Ferguson, and one of his last wishes when he left Aberdeen was that he got first refusal on Joe Miller).

Billy Stark was the one that came back to haunt Porterfield, but to be fair, Aberdeen fans always had a hot and cold attitude to him (he was probably the founder member of the boo boys club) and even Celtic fans were totally against the idea of spending money to get him.... then goes on to have the Indian Summer of his career.

Porterfield basically signed a lot of guys who could not settle (Peter Nicolas was considered a BIG signing by Aberdeen standards at the time, but by all accounts he had recently divorced his wife and did not like being away from London) with Keith Edwards the one that probably could have been a decent players (absolute goal machine everywhere he went in England, but think he broke his leg at a game at Tannidice in one of his first dozen games, and then sold on by Smith).

I ll hold my hand up on billy stark ( and bobby ‘bobbys blouse’ connor ) only in later years did I appreciate what they brought - guess if you raised on old school blood & thunder fitba ….

    ex south stand boo boy

paul mason was bit of an unsung hero imho

It's amazing to think that a finisher like that couldn't get near the Scotland team.  Imagine someone scoring 4 goals in a game against Celtic now?  Great times, great player.  Once decked Alex Ferguson in the dressing-room too!

    Outstanding player - amazing finisher

but i dont believe ever a ‘target man’ holding it up ; mobile enough for international football ; although joey harper seemed to manage

Think he talks about it in his book that a cup game at Raith Rovers in the middle of winter, he went to attempt a over head kick, and fell back first on to a solid sheet of ice, and that could tell straight away something was not right, but tried to play through it and that basically ended his career.

McDougall was McGhee's direct replacement, it would be 2 years before Black departed.

By the end of Fergies era we had likes of  paul wright and davie dodds - always felt he lost a bit of interest by then , as quality was going downhill

Brilliant striker for St Mirren and a hero of mine when I was at school.

Another one in a long list of players Aberdeen poached from Saints, well I use that term loosely as I believe it was a record transfer fee between Scottish clubs at the time.

what was the name of the pub he had in Aberdeen? I remember Saints played Dons in a midweek fixture, I was back from Jersey at the time and the supporters bus stopped there and we all piled in to see “our” legend, he was delighted as he made a good few quid for a couple of hours and was completely humbled that he was so popular with Paisley Buds.

    RIP.

Criterion Bar opp station now a Sainsburys

am sure loads of parking for a minibus outside ……..

  8. Best penalty box finisher we had ; had the pleasure of being at both rangers 5-1 game (hat trick)  ; and 4 v celtic

and the away hat trick ( before half time ) in a dead rubber at tynecastle - 3rd was a volley taken on the run between two hearts players

for a smaller guy ; his heading ability was sublime

his final act was a dummy that set up a goal in the 86 final

everyone knew he was a character back then ; i knew he ran the criterion bar for a time

    Thanks for the memories Frank

What an absolutely arrogant tosses beale is, totally disrespectful to say we shouldn’t be getting beaten by a team like Aberdeen. Show some respect you smug prick. Rant over.

Elizabeth line is an upgrade…… but not sure how they ever got the mammoth cost of building new stations and tunnels to save a few mins. Correct me if wrong but I’d be surprised if it allows you to do anything you couldn’t do before……. air conditioned and more direct (depending on where you’re going) but not opening up anything new.

Used it first time few weeks back

looking at the map its got a huge difference in cross london -east:west commute

i only used it for heathrow to paddington/central london ; and compared to extortionate heathrow express ( i read most expensive in europe ; cost per distance) and the antiquated picaddily line ; 50 mins / no luggage space - moving sardine can - was way better ; efficient and cheaper

the first numbers went 1-22 through both teams when numbers started , and the goalie wore the same kit as the outfield players ; can't recall the source of that but did read it somewhere - 'the english game' on Netflix (if you can stomach the title etc etc ) was a pretty good watch for me)

i think 'swarming' was more of an issue than offside initially .....

they could of been way more authentic with the look of the 150th kit tbh ; even using newer materials

I wonder will it be worn with no numbers on the front or names on the back like off of the olden days too 🤔

From being in the scouts here since I was wee and through to being a leader and talking to older leaders there was definitely a lot of it going on here too. Know of a few guys who gave another leader a kicking back in the day for taking photos and stuff. Don't think it went any further but the guy was kicked out.

It's obviously been an issue in many if not all football clubs throughout the years, scouts, BB, churches etc etc the list goes on.

I'd like to think it's nowhere near as regular now but who knows really.

i was in the BB / and the precursor to it "shipmates" (name sounds a bit dodgy now tbh) in the 70s , as were a lot of my mates - luckily i only ever encountered some very decent people ; who gave up a lot of their time for us -  in the days when you didn't have to shout "volunteer" or wear the t-shirt ; same for the football teams back then

even then though as primary school aged kids ; there was always chat/rumour of who the local nonces were ; proven or unproven , you knew to steer clear

am not sure how much there was in way of screening / security clearances back then ; if any
