I was picking up the car from its MOT not so long ago and there was a discussion in the office about independence. I was the only one for it out of 4 folk including the mechanic. They all seemed to make mostly misguided or incorrect points against it which strangely made it even more difficult to comeback on. One didn't think the EU benefitted us, another criticised the lack of new houses built by Scotgov and the mechanic guy didn't realise that the Health Services were separate. He didn't believe me because of it being called The NATIONAL Health Service (his emphasis!). I didn't know where to start.

Another example is a Scottish family member who lives in England and states that Farage "has got something" 🙄 I mentioned that he rarely turned up for his meetings as an MEP and now takes a decent EU pension. This was met with "but the SNP don't take their seats at WM". Turns out he was quite clueless about the difference between MPs and MSPs and therefore the basics of the UK political system.

It's just quite depressing and makes you a bit weary about the whole thing. I often fall into the trap of thinking folk will arrive at the same conclusions whenever there's another UK govt initiated issue. The Unionists highlight the more complex questions such as currency but there's a lot more ignorance around fundamental stuff. Not sure if the media/political commentators are wilfully happy to keep it that way or just as ignorant at times.

    Sorry for rambling on...

    Pretty disheartening for sure.

But I'll say it again. The vast majority of people do not look in-depth in what is actually happening in politics and I include well educated and successful people. They are just headline readers. This is the challenge the next independence campaign faces and has to be clear with no questions left to uncertainty eg currently, EU membership, etc.

However if it goes to about 175 million for a 31 year old they would be mad to reject it. Without Salah they still have enough to keep them in top 8 minimum going into January when they could buy 2 or 3 players and still have a big profit.

They bought VVD and Allison when they sold Coutinho. Something similar would be good business.

£200 million being quoted now 😮

    The McStays (Paul & Willie)?

Colin (Rangers) and Tam McAdam (Celtic) also played against each other several times in the 80’s.

👍 Incredibly not the 1st McStay brothers to play together for Celtic. Their great uncles did it in the 1920's.

I remember both McAdam brothers playing for Motherwell albeit years apart, both were good players.

Be careful what you wish for. A lot of damage could be done if someone else is in power in Holyrood and it will take decades to undo. As far as the GE is concerned any decline in votes for SNP (or Greens if they can come to some agreement) will be seized upon by Unionists, red or blue.

In the meantime there are things we can do, the Business in Scotland march and rally Saturday week, the Chain of Freedom event in October. It's easy to write off these events but every bit counts. I'm new to chapping doors but I've done a bit just recently and I'm not sure (where I am at least) that there's been much change in voter intentions. What there is, is a lot of disillusionment with politics and politicians of all stripes. We've got a few important months ahead of us and we need to make sure as indy supporters that we're not creating some sort of self-fulfilling prophecy where we think the Unionist parties will win and so we don't do what we can.

    Well said👍
