Is it possible to hold new holyrood elections under the rules as that is probably the only way out of this. None on the possible minority govt options are appealing.

Yes. This could lead to a Holyrood election. Do the Scottish Greens want to be seen to be responsible for electing a Tory or Labour first minister though?

It'll be interesting to see what happens next. Wings was suggesting the opposition would have the numbers now to force a VONC, and if I was in Sarwar's position I'd be tempted, going by current polling. Then again, I expect both Humza's personal polling as well as his party's will improve as a result of today's announcement. A general election victory would assure his position as FM for a while longer.

The only way that could work is if all the other parties got together to agree a new first minister, which would effectively mean a coalition between Labour and Tories. Can't see that happening a few months before a general election. Their London bosses just wouldn't allow it. They would also need LibDim support as well. They are not going into coalition with anybody any time soon, after what happened to them the last time they did it.

Aberdeen's average attendance is higher this year than it was the year Aberdeen took 40,000 to Celtic park. There isn't really a drop off in support, Aberdeen's average home attendance has never been spectacular but it is better this season - down to Europe IMO

The 40K to Glasgow was a one off and there were many factors for this. almost 20 years since the last trophy, a real chance of winning it with no OF opposition in the final. A brilliant semi final performance against St Johnstone with one of the best atmospheres I have seen at tynecastle. The best league form in years after being shit for years, a competent manager after years of having jokers at the helm.

Aye, we should never underestimate the "glory hunter" effect. If folk think their team has a real good chance of winning, they are much more likely to go. It's the same for any club or country. Same reason why most Scotland games are now almost sell outs, when we struggled to get over 35,000 a few years ago.

  4. The Greens have probably picked the worst time possible (for themselves) to do this. By far the main reason the SNP entered into this agreement, is to the get the budget passed relatively easily each year, instead of the normal excruciating negotiations they used to have to go through in the past. The budget has been passed for this year so the SNP have nothing to lose until budget time next year. I'm guessing that if the members vote to end the BHA, Harvie and Slater will resign and they may even leave the party. Wouldn't be surprised if they joined the SNP.

Aye, it was technically a save I suppose, it hit Taffarel’s shoulder and went over the bar.

Johnston should have buried it though, he missed a great chance against Costa Rica also.

I seem to remember it being a great tackle from a Brasilian defender? Could be wrong though.

  6. One positive for Clarke is that he now won't have to worry about having to drop players who were expecting to go. 🤣Especially if it is a 26 man squad.

Not long ago, some folk on here were debating endlessly about who he will drop if it's a 23 man squad. When it was obvious that he just had to wait to see who was eventually available.  Now it looks like we will struggle to get a good 20 man squad out of what is left. And still time for more injuries yet.

Dundee United back in the Premiership next season. If Aberdeen are still there it gives us a good fixture to add to the calendar, however what's with the pitch invasion, United are a premiership club in my eyes, by all means celebrate but don't over do it.

When else can fans celebrate if not when winning the league? They will probably have fuck all to celebrate next season.

Stuart Armstrong makes it 3 nil Southampton

Some folk on here were writing Armstrong off a wee while ago. The way things are going he could turn out to be one of our most important players in Germany.

I think it could be a personal crusade  for Sunak because he's dying to be known for something and doesn’t get to put his Adidas Samba'd foot down much without being telt. He also seems like a reasonably healthy person & probably never had a wee puff in his life so doesn’t relate to it at all as a habit. It's also taking a bit of focus away from the Rwanda reporting.

Or maybe his family are heavily invested in vaping technology? I'd hope that even this version of corrupt Tories wouldn't be that blatant in their levels of corruption, though? Wouldn't put anything past them. Last big payday before he gets kicked oot the door? 🤣

I do get it, I'm just not entirely sure how it will work in practice. I think it's a good idea but am surprised that the Tories have brought it in, not only because smoking rates have declined massively but being concerned for the health of the general public -its not what they're known for!

It is supposed to work the same way as other legislation does. If you make something illegal then hopefully less people will do it. The same as compulsory seat belts, mobile phones whist driving. Folk say things like "It's impossible to enforce it". And whilst that may be true, it doesn't mean we shouldn't make them illegal.

It's the same with folk who come out with this "Freedom of choice" bollocks. At the time, folk said things like "I have the freedom of choice to get killed in a car crash if I want to" (I might be paraphrasing a wee bit). Society (through our governments) decided that people should no longer have that choice.

Am I being particularly thick? How exactly is this going to work? How will you tell whether someone was born after 2009? I get 'Check 25' policies etc. but if it's 2054 how do you check, whether someone is 45 or 44?

I think you might have missed the point of this legislation. The main idea is to try to reduce the number of young people taking up smoking in the first place. How many folk are going to think about taking up smoking when they reach 44?

The human race is a bit crazy. We have know for at least half a century that smoking kills people, and it's probably going to be another half century before we decide to ban it. All to put huge amounts of money into the pockets of already very wealthy corporations.
