It might be what the "party" needs and the last thing that "the party" wants - if that makes sense
It should make the debates more interesting when one of the candidates isn't constrained by Holyrood and without a doubt put the SNP strategy, or lack of, questioned
There shouldn't be any debates. Both candidates should inform voters (ie SNP members) of their vision for the future and then just get the vote done. These TV debates do nothing more than allow the biased presenters to stick the knife into the SNP. This vote is for SNP members only.

Meanwhile, on other issues...

On the actual vote, do you not think it was their only option after being rebuffed? Is it possible they knew the Greens were not going to support the motion and Albas vote wouldn’t make any difference anyway.
She should have abstained.

When you say 'this' do you mean a hung parliament?
Yes.

No much salad in that bottom drawer.

I saw some BBC analysis asking if the council gains for Labour and the mood of the country (sic) meant they'd do well in Scotland. But no mention of the fact that Labour had not done so well in some places with votes going to Greens and independents and maybe left leaning places where people angry at their stance on Gaza. We shall see.
(As I type, I see LibDems have overtaken Tories in terms of number of council seats...)
Also if I'm been hearing right, this pattern of results would mean Labour could win majority in Westminster on basis of English results alone. The road to no.10 does not necesarily run through Scotland, as all the Labour Scots never tire of claiming.
On ITV news, for the first time, I heard them talking about a Labour win at Westminster but possibly without an overall majority. It could still be all to play for. As things stand at present this is our only possible route towards independence.

Yes, that's what I meant. It's a genuine question from me. It's about the double standards and the pressure giving Sarwar a free pass compared to Forbes and Yousaf.
I should have realised when you used "good" and "journalist" in the same sentence. 🤣

Brilliant 😄 Hoist with his own petard.
Can't help thinking it's some sort of publicity stunt. "They've stopped talking about me, how can I get back in the news again?"

Flynn will only swan up if he loses his seat at the GE - which is unlikely
The SNP may not take a hammering at the GE on a Swinney/Forbes ticket - not enough to cause another leadership election
It's all up in the air
He could stand as MSP even if he keeps his seat at the general election. I know they changed the rules to stop Joanna Cherry doing it, but the rules can just as easily be changed back again, if they want to.

Lastly, I had to laugh at the Daily Heil's screeching about a Swinney carve up. Funny not a cheep was heard about two unelected PMs were foisted upon us, one of which was outlasted by a lettuce
🤣 🤣 🤣

Related to this, not only Yousuf but does Sarwar ever get the same interrogation? Traditional, mainstream, majority Muslim views see same-sex relationships as being sinful. Has he ever been asked how he reconciles Labour Party policy with Islam? He aspires to be FM, what are his views, surely a good journalist would want to find out?
I think the opposite. Only bad journalists think it's any of their or our business. All that matters is how they vote or what their proposed policies are on each issue. What religion they choose to follow is irrelevant, IMO. Even today catholics aren't supposed to use any form of contraception. Should journalists be going around asking every catholic politician if they have ever used a condom?

My tuppence worth is that the SNP know that the next couple of elections are going to be painful, there is ongoing police investigations and that Swinney is there as a patsy to see that through. He could end up in court giving evidence right enough.
More i think of it, probably wise of Forbes to steer clear until this self inflicted shit show is over.
That could happen whether he is First Minister or not.

I think this is a decent outcome.
Swinney has a chance to steady the ship and hopefully bring people together. Kate should be deputy FM and prob Finance again.
Get her decent air time in front of the public and let them see her competence and get over this bogey man situation about her religion. She can be geared towards taking over from Swinney as he’s never going to be the man to lead us to Indy.
She doesn't need two jobs. One is plenty. She should be allowed to choose which job she wants. That will probably be part of the deal. From the outside, it may look like Finance Secretary is the best fit, but that is a huge amount of work. She may decide that that isn't the best job for herself right now. If she does have the vision to eventually lead us to independence then she might decide to invent a slightly different job for herself? 😉

All relates to the early 2000s when Swinney was in charge
Former SNP MP Campbell Martin wrote a book about it
Basically a gradualist/devolutionist and the opposite of the left of centre that he mentioned today
That depends on where you think the "centre" is nowadays.

I just cannot get beyond the fact JS was on his way out a year ago and now he is back as the leader . This, for me, is not progress, and why the sudden change of heart ? The young family he planned to spend more time with are only a year older.
He has had a year off, and had time to realise what a fukin nightmare that is going to be. 🤣

Looks like a grubby deal between Swinney and Forbes
Silly girl
She will be making a statement later
I think it's a wise move for her. This is the wrong time for her to be First Minister. If she is in it for the long haul then her time will come.

"What will be different from the last time you were leader John"
That one is easy. This time he will be First Minister without having to win an election. 🤣

I'd prefer to see Forbes v Flynn as a proper debate about the future
One thing we should have learned from the last leadership vote is that we should never again be dragged into the idea of televised debates to appoint the SNP leader. Electing a new SNP leader is a matter for SNP members, and only SNP members, and should have fuk all to do with anybody else.

I just read about it 25 minutes ago. I had no idea. I'm ill and avoiding doing anything of use. So decided to see what news i have missed in the last 3 months. I thought it was an april fools joke to start with Murray.
Aye, he announced a few weeks ago that he is standing in Blackburn. It didn't get much publicity obviously. Craig Murray isn't as famous as Galloway, so has no chance of winning, but it will be interesting to see how many votes they get.

So, Rangers need to beat Celtic at Parkhead, but not only that, they probably need to win by three goals as well. Ramy might as well start partying now, I reckon.
