The issue is though that as soon as you offer any sort of constructive criticism of Clarke then you get called things like a troll etc by posters like yourself...

That's absolute nonsense. I haven't called anyone else a troll except you

Oh and, hiya chripper... how many accounts have you had now?

Clarke tries nothing new during friendly games, yet his record in them is appalling. The NI game was an opportunity to at least do something different, yet all we witnessed was another central midfielder dominated piss poor performance.

There seems to be a notion that Clarke is untouchable amongst a number of fans, he isn't the messiah, he isn't brilliant, and he does do things that warrant criticism. I know that some people can't quite grasp that, but your loyalty toward him isn't replicated by everyone else.

When we do well under him, he gets praised, when we do poorly under him, he absolutely deserves criticism. We have three games in June to look forward to. If he gets it right, he will be a national hero, if it goes badly like the last Euros, then he will be due every single bit of criticism heading his way.

I've yet to see anyone say he is beyond criticism and there's certainly nobody labelling him the messiah or untouchable.

If he gets us passed this group in June......... he's definitely the messiah 😆 🤣

Both Adams and Dykes have done a shift for Scotland in previously years. At a time when Shanklands game wasnt where it is at now so im not sure Clarke can be criticised for not playing Shankland then. I think most agree that Dykes and Adams form both at club and international level has dropped this season. Shankland has upped his game and become more rounded. Hence why he has forced his way into the starting conversation rather than being talked about as one who might make the squad. As I said, he started against Holland to see if he could pass the test, he did. Its only natural Dykes then plays against NI as he is still in mix.

As you say, McTom and McGinn at this point are undroppable. They play in the position that is most suited to Ferguson. Both Gilmour and McGreggor have put in several outstanding performances for Scotland and naturally play in the deeper roles. Its unfortunate for Ferguson but there is no need to rip the strongest part of the team up to shoe horn him in.

If Ferguson had put in an outstanding performance, scored a vital goal or done something abit special then he would have a stronger case but he hasnt. He is a quality player but at this point he isnt a starter in our strongest 11.

Everyone has their views but I just cant get on board with McGinn as a lone striker and I doubt anybody else will either. Its a mute point as 100% it will not happen.

At this point I think Clarke has only two difficult choices.

Shankland, Adams or Dykes upfront. Right now I think shankland edges it.

The other choice is Gilmour or mcgregor. I think they will both get a start in the group but not together

No idea what you are talking about tbh...

Are you actually gonna weigh in with any constructive feedback?

Nope. I'm enjoying watching the show.

Bale certainly carried them through a number of games but even still, it's a team effort in order to win any game and they were getting to the latter stages of major tournaments.

More solid defenders? I don't believe they had any better defenders than us currently tbh. They bled in the likes of Bale, Ramsey, Davies etc from a teenagers and built up a lot of experience and caps by their early 20's that made them successful for a long period of time. We end up waiting for players to turn early 20's before they start getting regular game time if they're lucky.

England/Spain/Brazil - Maino/Yamal/Endrick all teenagers starting games for their national teams. These are just three examples I can think of off the top of my head but there has been plenty more.

Doig - Probably would be warming the bench but he would of got on at LB once Robo went off and could of been used in previous games in place of Taylor who is bog standard. But nah, Clarke will play him as he's a loyal servant and turns up!

Doak - Should of been picked in previous squads before he was injured. Drop one of the many CB's or we have or Liam Kelly. Again Clarke, far too safe in what he does, does my tits in as he could of been a wildcard pick. If not Doak then why hasn't Fraser been selected as a much needed winger? We are crying out for them...

Conway - A lot younger so has a higher ceiling potentially, why not try him out and see if he is our future no 9?

so in reality Clarke has three potential teenagers he could've called, none of which are particularly deserving of a call up more than their competition except they are younger.

Mainoo - a revelation for Man Utd lately. any nation would call him up

Yamal - a once in a lifetime 16 year old with 29 appearances for the Barca first team since April 2023

Endrick - again e is a regular for Palmeiras, the Brazilian champions.

The only teenage sensation we have come close to is Doak who hasn't done what any of the above did. Gilmour was started at Wembley by Clarke at the age of 18 so there is evidence that Clarke will give debuts to speciall talents, patterson also started age 19.

until looking into the above I thought Clarke was very stubborn and the whole Doak, Doig and Conway argument only arises when we perform poorly because everyone on here thinks they know the answer

Anyone not worried about our form or what’s coming out of Steve Clarke’s mouth is in denial.

He says he needed picked up by the players after Friday night & after last night he’s said it wasn’t our night and peaking now doesn’t matter it’s about peaking in June…

30 mins in last night we went 451 but we don’t have a single winger in the squad so we had no width or penetration. The ability to see issues and change things - I don’t see any of that in any of our last… 5-10 games.

The make up of the squad for June should have changed following these results; less Kenny McLeans & Greg Taylor’s & more Ryan Frasers & hopefully someone who can create, breakdown & be effective in the final 3rd ie Ryan Gauld potentially? Surely we try these guys in the next friendlies!

I am not in denial, not sure why you think anyone who disagrees with you is in denial. Clarke will be telling the players different things to what he tells the media and he will be backed by the captain and vice captain

we did go 451 and it worked to a certain extent, Patterson was in acres of space at least 5 times down the right wing. He did get any crosses into dangerous areas, he was clearly struggling last night. on another night he wouldve whipped is some great crosses. Tierney also found a lot of space down the left with armstrong

Fraser could make a difference, there several balls through to Patterson and two to Shankland which in my opinion were tailor made for Fraser. The question around him is whether Clarke believes Fraser will upset the team ethic within the squad

shankland may well be but I suspect he will be loyal to dykes and Adams unless shankland has a great game in the remaining friendlies.

I'm convinced shankland will start. I haven't been on board with the screams for him to start because I felt he was just a finisher and that type of player isn't suited to the way Clarke plays however he is winning me over with these last two performances. He needs a goal against but he didn't slightly better than dykes and adams

what’s wrong with them being Rangers fans and Northern Irish?  One of my friends was in the crowd last night and he is a massive Rangers fan and was wearing a Northern Irish scarf in their end.  He has lived in Scotland for 35 years.

absolutely nothing wrong with their fans behaviour last night and thought they backed their team well and looked like they were having a great time doing “the bouncy”

in contrast, I witnessed a hate crime from one of our own fans, who dressed in comedy fashion of a kilt, Scotland top, and one of these funny hats shouts “fuck off back to Ireland you proddy cu4ts”.  He continued with various other anti Protestant shouting.  What a charmer.

I don't think anyone has a problem with them being Northern Irish and rangers fans, there are plenty of other teams fans in northern Ireland.

I'm guessin the problem is with scottish rangers fans being in there.

I'm sure you are right, they looked to having a great time acting like plastic English fans, booing celtic players despite there likely being celtic fans from northern Ireland in their end.

Wales have been performing well above us fot years now and that is in part due to them blooding in a host of quality teenagers...

England, Spain and Brazil have all been playing teenagers in recent games so your argument doesnt hold any weight.

Why are we still picking the likes of Greg Taylor or Ralston for frnedlies or sqauds who we know what they are capable of/unlikely to ever play when we have youngsters like Johnston and Doig waiting to come through and take their chance.

Wales performed well because they had a global superstar in their ranks who scored for fun and they had more solid defenders, it wasn't down to just blooding teenagers. I'd also argue it was down to them having a lack of depth.

Which teenagers have England Spain and Brazil played recently?

At the moment we have 3 names often mentioned on here.

Doig - he will only sit on the bench like Taylor. Is it better for him to continue developing with the U21s or sit warming the bench?

Doak - currently injured and since being back hasn't been in the Liverpool squad. Who do we drop for him?

Conway - there's an argument for him to be called up as he plays at the same level as dykes and adams but he is not much more prolific.

I guess a a goalie could be left out for any of the above. We don't need 4 GKs.

    Who else is there?

  11. For those going on about Wales and Northern Ireland playing teenagers.

Neither of those nations are going to the Euros.

Wales may have been unlucky but they ain't going.

Looking back on last night, Northern Ireland are fucking pish. They played out of their skin in a friendly but they did absolutely nothing, scotland beat themselves. I reckon if we played them again on Saturday we'd batter them or if it was a qualifier we'd batter them.

Would any "top" nation stick with a manager after a run of results like that ?

The answer by the way is no.

We are no longer a top nation and as has been shown over the last 30 years - failure is acceptable to us

Yes - the 7 games without a win have been "meaningless" - That's one way to look at it i guess going forward

I'm not sure why you refer to top nations. Nobody argue that we are and IMO we never have been top Nation

No nation at our level would sack their manager after qualifying the way we did.
