McGregor should be no where near the midfield again.

Controversial opinion: I thought McGregor had a good game against Israel. Normally think he's a waste of a position but he did well whilst McTominay and McGinn were a disappointment.

That said I'd have Jack and McTominay together when fit and Gilmour as soon as possible.

  2. The thing I remember most about Israel is their right back. He seemed to have Robertson's number every time. However, I can't remember Tierney and Robertson playing together on the left before against them. I like the way it's working out. Teams peg Robertson back which only give Tierney space. Maybe we can start to see them as interchangeable at LB/CB?

    This.

Not sure why he's the darling of the TA.

He's not done much in a Scotland shirt.. well.. nothing positive.

I don't think he is the darling of the TA. In fact, if anything, he's under rated. I've noticed a definite change in the last few weeks though.

Undoubtedly. Say what you like about Brendan Rodgers, he's an excellent coach. I mean, anyone who can almost make Oli Burke look like a footballer must have a gift!

Rodgers leaving was a huge loss for Scottish football. I say that as a Hearts fan but he was brilliant at developing players. He played more Scots than Lennon did and certainly more than Gerrard does. Although maybe Gerrard gets the benefit of the doubt due to being newer to the role and the pressure of immediate success.

These two are the future, guaranteed (barring injury or illness) so why not fast track them like Vogts did with Fletcher and McFadden.

With Turnbull I don't even think it's a case of fast tracking, just a matter of picking your best players. Don't understand it at all.

    Gilmour is just very unlucky.

Dylan Reid huge potential. Already been on trial at Benfica? and impressed. He’s been invited back.

    Good stuff, thank you.

Does everybody else click on links like these whilst repeating "please be a striker, please be a striker" over and over in their heads?

😱 No, you’ve wildly missed the point by trying to include racism in this debate.

To be fair to Yermaw I think his point was about Malky Mackay, not Che Adams. Sounds like you both agree there is no place for racism which is something Scottish football must agree on together.

  8. I'd pick Gauld amongst the forwards just because other options are so bad. Gilmour will miss out but I am absolutely certain would be in if he was playing anywhere else.

    My squad of 25

    1. Marshall

    2. Gordon

    3. McLaughlin

    4. O'Donnell

    5. Palmer (but hoping Paterson if he gets game time and proves himself)

    6. Robertson

    7. Taylor

    8. Tierney

    9. Cooper

    10. Gallagher

    11. McKenna

    11. Hendry

    12. Hanley?

    13. Jack

    15. McTominay

    16. McGregor

    17. Christie

    18. Forrest

    19. Armstrong

    20. McGinn

    21. Turnbull

    22. Dykes

    23. McBurnie

    24. Gauld

    25. 1 other forward depending on form

Shankland played OK without seeing too much of the ball but agree re Appere and most United fans have been saying for weeks why he doesn’t get more minutes. Manager keeps persisting with McNulty who has been useless and especially Clark in midfield who is like a man down. Hopefully we see a lot more of Appere next season because he has a lot of attributes to be a very good player. Probably needs a bit more self belief. He was loaned out to a junior club the season before last and so maybe still not got the confidence he needs. He was very good in the Championship last season and big things were expected of him this season.

I was really looking forward to seeing Appere this season and was disappointed he hadn't made any impact.  Maybe just needs another season although he's 22 this month

I think he’ll be struggling for the WC qualifiers in March at this rate.

Meanwhile Jack Hendry is again named in the Belgian league team of the week.

Have you seen that his manager is saying it's crazy he's not been making the squad?

There is absolutely no chance Armstrong will miss out whether McLean makes it or not. At club level Armstrong has arguably had the best season from any of our midfielders. I would imagine Clarke spends more time considering how he can get him into the starting 11 never mind the squad.

As mentioned previously i hope he is thinking about trying him at RWB, he has the energy & intelligence for that role & could be the solution at least short term to our weakest position . O'Donnell played well in Belgrade but with a player of such limited ability its only a matter of when he will be exposed badly & cost us dearly at international level.

As for McLean, he is a good top half championship player nothing more, he might still make it as a back up to Ryan Jack but ability wise shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Armstrong. A couple of great pens under pressure shouldn't change that.

I do agree. I was just trying to sum up the difficulty choosing the midfield. For me, I would leave McLean out and Armstrong would be in.

The question is, 'how many of these will make the squad if all are fit?' Jack, McGregor, Gilmour, Armstrong, Fraser, Forrest, Christie, McGinn, Turnbull, McTominay, Fleck and McLean.

there were 7 chosen in a squad of 25 for the last match and that includes McTominay.

  12. I don't have a clue how he'll choose the defence and Midfield. It was 'reported' on Twitter that Clarke wants McTominay pushed forward in the next games. If that's correct it that gives you a choice of these in midfield:

Jack, McGregor, Gilmour, Armstrong, Fraser, Forrest, Christie, McGinn, Turnbull, McTominay, Fleck and McLean. And that's including Gauld within the forwards.

I think Turnbull is now definite and, like Pasta Mick, i think Gilmour is getting less and less likely despite his ability. As for the others, it's pretty hard to compare. Fraser is a definite for me as he can create, same with Christie, and our options upfront are woeful.

It'd be really sad for Armstrong to miss out but imagine telling McLean he's not coming to the Euros?

We’ve always had more than 23 players.

20 outfield players with 3 left backs would be insane.

I think I agree with you. I was just guessing what Clarke will do. There is logic in it though. The replacement left back (Tierney) is already in the first XI and has a history of injuries.

Yeh I agree, there's no chance Taylor makes a 23 man squad. Only hope for him is a larger squad or an injury to Robertson or Tierney which could well happen tbf.

I think Taylor would make the squad. I think he has been recently whilst Tierney and Robertson have been available and I think it's too soon for Hickey.

I wouldn't include McLean but it seems so unfair not to take him (but that's international football).
