Either way we maybe could do with some fresh players as recent results and performances have been poor.

I agree,  Fraser ,Gauld , Morgan & Cairney are all good shouts . Would be even happier if Ross Stewart or especially Doak could get some first team action & make it. Turnbull not though, hasn't done anywhere near enough in recent times to deserve it.

Anyone any news on McTominay ?

Anyone else constantly get the fear from this thread?

I think we all are 😪 I planned being in Germany over 2 weeks but if things get any worse I'm looking to take a mid group stage home break.  I'm not feeling confident at all about our chances currently.

So Ross Stewart is apparently ready to play again.

Good to hear, you never know as Southampton will be in the play offs if he gets 3 or 4 appearances & scores a couple of goals he might have a outside chance of making the 26.

I still fully expect posts on here calling for Clarke's head for anything from not selecting MLS players Gauld and Morgan or likes of McBurnie and England brigade players. It will happen of that I am sure.

If he doesn't try Christie in his best position & we go out at the group stages then I'm not proud to say it but I'll be one of them.

For now I'm trying to stay positive about the team & manager so let's hope Tierney, Hickey & Armstrong all make it & Clarke picks a balanced squad.

Christie immense for Bournemouth again. If you were to believe stats sites he is one of the best players in his position in the EPL.

Surely Clarke can't ignore when a player transforms himself from a average attacking midfielder to a fantastic holding midfielder much longer!

Newcastle have apparently already told Jude Smith and Lucas De Bolle they are free to leave in the summer.

Don't think De Bolle did much on loan at Hamilton & know nothing about Smith apart from him being a ex Celtic youth keeper. Hope they both go on to have decent pro careers but it's highly unlikely either become full internationals.

Russell Martin says Armstrong not as bad as first feared. Most probably out of their remaining fixtures, but hopeful he'll make the Euros

Wow I was about to post I'm gutted for the player & us but you've cheered me up. Always been a fan of Armstrong, classy footballer & person, let's  hope Martin is right🍀

Thought he did really well when he came on, looked composed on the ball, good positional sense, made some important interventions, excellent tackle that wiped out Fernandes and left him greeting on the floor. If he can play like this week in, week out then he should be on Clarke's radar.

Definitely agree , surely Clarke is aware of his apparent desire to play for us. He is still a Bologna player so  let's see where he ends up next season. Once/ if he is starting regularly in Italy or championship level in England he could be deserving of a call up.

I didn't see the game, but read that Luis Binks played very well against Man Utd today. He's on loan at Coventry from Bologna and has vocalised his eligibility and interest in representing Scotland in the past. Anyone see the game and how he played?

I saw the last 10 minutes & the extra time. Binks has been on the bench more often than not as I think Coventry have quite a few promising young defenders.  Anyway today he got on after a hour & from what I saw he was excellent , made a couple of cracking tackles, won the late penalty & looks very good on the ball.  He hasn't done anywhere enough to be considered for this summer but he certainly could have a chance of being a Scotland player in that future especially as he is a central defender.

Watched McGinn live in Lille last night. He put in a poor performance as did the rest of the Villa team except the GK. I'd love to have Martinez on my team.

You live in Lille don't you? Nice city enjoyed the vibe for the friendly. McGinn plays too much football & might have benefitted from them going out but on the other hand going into the Euros in a happy place after lifting a European trophy & finishing in a champions League place might boost his form.

My suggestion of Ryan Fraser was as replacement for Lewis Ferguson not Hickey or Patterson. If you can find a more suitable one with international experience and goals for us and getting games and in form then lets hear it.

I know Fraser did play wing back once & don't think it worked, can't recall the game though. Fraser is a great player at his best & especially if he still has a bit of pace having him & Stuart Armstrong as in form impact bench players is crucial for us. Trying Fraser as wing back again could be considered if circumstances required it .

Some of the names being suggested for RB are solid SPL players for average teams but they'll be shown up at international level.  Greg Taylor starts for the best team in the SPL and he consistently gets targeted and shown up for Scotland. I accept his size doesn't help.

You could probably make the same criticism about Ralston being a good SPL player, and nothing more, but I think he's done OK for us.

Part of the problem with Ralston is he doesn't play enough for Celtic for us to be sure he is much better than any of the journeyman SPL Scottish right backs. He might look solid on occasion but there must be reasons he rarely plays & there's no English championship clubs seem to be showing interest. I do like his attitude & commitment, he isn't intimidated by opponents either but against real quality with pace I think he might be seriously found out .

I would like Ross McCrorie to be called up & tried out in the June friendlies. Think he might suit our style of play also as he is strong, works damn hard & quicker than Ralston . He is also a player who has actually been signed for decent money by a club playing higher level than the SPL.

im not saying O’Donnell should be in squad in normal circumstances but we have no one else who has played for Scotland at right back and he does have experience in last Euros. Don’t see Clarke taking a punt on Johnson or McCrorie.

Hopefully Hickey does make it and we go with him and Ralston as back up (assuming Patterson is unfortunately goosed as appeared to be on Monday night).

Do you actually follow club football? I don't think O'Donnell even starts regularly for Motherwell anymore. The last euros was 3 years ago FFS what he did then is totally irrelevant!

  14. If you want to start suggesting steady eddie spl players then let's bring Nicky Devlin or Chris Cadden into the mix. Both better than O'Donnell is now & on a par or arguably better than McGinn.

I'll apologise for even suggesting it though as i still think it crisis hasn't reached that level yet

Given our RB issues ( and genuinely discarding my claret and amber specs) I would suggest Paul Mc Ginn as a possible call up.

Already capped by SC he has been a 'steady eddy' throughout the season playing anywhere and everywhere across the defence.

Especially if the squad rises to 26 he would be a decent back up.

As for SOD I think his race has run in Scotland terms.

I'm sorry both players races are well & truly ruin. McGinn is a steady player but even without Hickey & Patterson we have 3 minimum younger choices before he should come even close to consideration .

Fraser played in the Nations League against Ukraine and Ireland in 2022 and that was after any problems he's had with Clarke. He wasn't called up after that as he wasn't playing at all with Newcastle. Maybe Eddie Howe had a grudge against him for how he left Bournemouth. I think he would have been in the last squad if he wasn't injured.

Frasers alleged attitude problems are totally overblown on here by some posters, they ignore the BBC football focus interview at his peak where he said how proud he was playing for Scotland. The guy in injury prown that's the main reason he has missed camps in the past.

Anyway I'm trying to not get into another debate on here about players pasts or players blood qualifications , we have had them all before & we should agree to disagree as after a while they get bloody boring.

A fit Fraser should go as he could be useful of the bench & he is technically good enough to be tried at right wing back if our injured players don't make it

Rob Apter was named EFL league 2 young player of the year. Been in the youth squads in the past.

I saw that & some Blackpool fans reckon the difference in quality from EFL 2 to 1 isn't that wide so they expect him to play a big part for them next season.

Scouser by birth but has played under 19's for us & arguably should be in our under 21 squad already.

Lincoln have had a good season but probably won't creep into the play-offs.

Yeh I see that. Though for them like you say it's a good season as I can't recall them ever being in the championship.

Erhahon for a 22 year old has played 150 first team games, that's pretty impressive . Only time will tell what his ceiling is but I do expect he will progress to be a championship player at the very least.

Any St Mirren fans here have an opinion?

While the usual debate is in full swing from the usual suspects im just reading Steve Clarke is after Joe Taylor who’s a 21 year old Luton striker who’s scored a good few this year on loan to Lincoln.

    Surely a Welsh/English/Scottish who’s represented Wales previously.

Don't know much about Taylor but ex St Mirren & Scotland under 21 midfielder Ethan Erhahon has had a great season for Lincoln apparently . Still only 22 & a natural holding midfielder.

  20. Looks like a bad day for us, just catching up here & reading the Ferguson sad news after watching Patterson limp off with what looked like a hamstring injury. Gutted for both of them 😪

I'm still hoping for Hickey 🤞 For Ferguson i would go with Fraser, if he is already selected it should be Cairney or Gauld  . Turnbull has done nothing at Cardiff to warrant consideration.

Did at the 6th goal & went off injured making a very poor attempt at a challenge in the lead up to the goal 🥴

He did okay apart from a couple of poor passes until that 6 goal, beaten too easily & injured what looked a pulled hamstring trying to make that challenge 😪

The lads having really bad luck as he might have done enough to get more minutes or even a start at the weekend now it could be touch & go if he'll make the Euros 😪
