  1. Gary Linekar said on Match of the Day that England should cap Livramento as soon as possible because he was eligible for one or two "other countries." Could someone please explain to nice Mr Linekar that the BBC is a British Broadcasting Corporation to which Scots [still] pay a licence fee. One day, perhaps, he will be broadcasting to an exclusively English audience but that day has not arrived yet.

I think Barnes could option to have in the squad for the next year or two until Clarke decides to go with Doak (if we do get Barnes, it is going to be one of those situations where you know he is just keeping the jersey warm for Doak down the road).

Clarke got Robertson and Tierney into the same team. He can do the same with other players, if he wants to.

  3. Mark Wotte used to get pelters from the dinosaurs who masqueraded as Scottish youth coaches. He always said that the purpose of the youth teams was not to win matches at youth level (it's nice if they do, obviously) but to provide players for the senior team. A lot of fantastic young prospects (remember Feruz?) don't go on to make it at senior level, for whatever reason. If a youth team produces one player who goes on to become an important player for Scotland, that's more useful than getting to the World Cup final like the Under-16s did in 1989 with a group of players who never went anywhere.

Still suspect the media are just milking this.....

Almost all the articles I have read have a "didn't enjoy" quote in the headline, and then make ZERO reference to it in the body of the article, and just speculate that Southgate will have a crack at him because he is still eligible.

If Tuesday showed anything, its is that England will have no need for him much longer than he thinks.

If there is any story to it, my gut feeling is Anderson got cold feet with the thought of the England game, but think simple story is he picked up a knock, and Newcastle did not want him going on a 4 hour flight across Europe just a day later.

Until either Clarke or Anderson make a statement, it's just all speculation.

I didn't hear Clarke say "He's committed to Scotland." I think this is more than idle speculation.

A great defender and an aerial threat for us at set pieces. One of those players who played in our best teams yet only ended up with 30 caps.

    R I P Gordon McQueen

I don't think he was ever the same again after that injury in 1978 that kept him out of the World Cup. A wholehearted, totally committed player and one of the best central defenders ever to play for Scotland.

I don't agree with the system, but it is what it is. Every other fuckin country in the world is doing it so may as well enjoy the success. I would NEVER not support my country...🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Do we want mercenaries in the team because it looks good on their CV and will help them get a new contract with a big club? If a player is committed to playing for Scotland then it doesn't matter where he was born but the Scotland jersey is not for faint hearts.

praise them yes….   Pick them, no.  Once they become established, then yes.

Some of us are old enough to remember the exciting Celtic youth team of 1970. The player everyone was looking forward to seeing in a Scotland shirt was Vic Davidson. There were other players in that team - such as Dalglish and McGrain - but they did not generate the same level of excitement.

But even Davidson was eclipsed by the Hibs starlet of that era - Peter Marinello.

And the moral of the tale? Keep your fingers crossed for Doak but let's not get carried away quite yet...

Not being of international standard is unfortunately no longer a bar to being called up to our squad as a goalkeeper.

That said, Liam Kelly was ridiculously good for Motherwell yesterday, going by the highlights. Hopefully he'll carry on improving.

We're kidding ourselves if we think McLoughlin is international standard.

I agree - a fabulous two-footed player who could shoot, tackle and run with the ball.

His problem was his versatility - he was not a specialist who could only play one position. Sometimes players are just too good for dim-witted Scottish managers who do not know what to do with them. I think Dalglish also falls into this category: trying to get on the end of knock-downs from Joe Jordan when he was capable of giving us much, much more.

The Netherlands could only have been put out if we had beaten them by 3 goals

As soon as they were down by 2 they stepped it up a gear

They werent playing at full steam for 90 minutes

So the Dutch were not professionals, in your opinion? I'm not replying to any more of your posts.

  11. We beat The Netherlands 3-2 in 90 minutes; Argentina needed extra time to beat them in the final. Even with McGrain and McQueen missing, that was a good squad of players. Ally McLeod had his Aberdeen pal Joe Harper in the squad and left Andy Gray (winner of England's golden boot) at home. McLeod didn't last long after that debacle.
