Thats been the problem at Rangers for as long as I remember though. There is always better players ajead of them as they are never afforded the opportunity to become better players.

Guys like King and Lowry were meant to be the best youth products to come through the academy in years but Lowry has had very limited game time despite being excellent pretty much every time he has played. He has certainly played better than the likes of Motondo, Wright and possibly Sakala yet all 3 have played much more.

King came in when there was a raft of injuries and had some dodgy moments and as a result he will find game time hard to come by. Whereas most teams look at potential and realise that making errors is part of the learning curve.

I was going to say something similar.

The amount of times players are brought in from abroad or down south and they’re given chance after chance after chance to play into form whereas an academy player who has brilliant potential is bombed the minute they make a couple of mistakes.

And in the case of Lowry, I’ve heard his attitude is the issue….. so they bring in Cantwell (who couldn’t get a regular game for a piss poor Norwich side in the EPL) who also has previous for having a terrible attitude.

Ben Doak has really hit the ground running for Liverpool which is seriously impressive - hell of a long way to go and no guarantee he will become anything but the boy has a serious chance and with a lot of hard work and a lot of luck hopefully will have a great career ahead of him

Out of interest is he from the performance school

I believe so. He had already made a first team appearance for Celtic and there has been whispers that he will be there or thereabouts the Liverpool first team in the near future. Extremely promising!

  3. Was at the game against Northern Ireland. Some takeaways…

Best player on the park was our left back (yup another left back!) Josh Reid

Ben Doak is the real deal. He instantly lifted the crowd when he came on with his close control and directness.

Was disappointed in Leon King (their number 9 gave him a hard time) and Adam Devine. King still an incredible talent.

Matthew Craig (one of the twins from Tottenham) stood out for me in the centre of the midfield. Comfortable receiving the ball, neat and tidy. Technically very good.

Jay Hogarth the goalkeeper while not being the tallest has some great technical attributes.

The striker Conway showed glimpses. Quick, some good hold up play, but you can see why he’s maybe not ready for the full squad.

Conor Smith full of industry, some nice touches, but needs to improve decision making.

Not the best of games but certainly never left the game feeling deflated about our future prospects.

  4. Serious lack of quality in that squad last night. Shame some players from the previous game against Turkey haven’t kicked on. The development of players like Kai Kennedy has either regressed or plateau’d. And where was Stephen Kelly?? Playing every week for Salford and apparently impressing?

Found this video on a Chelsea website. Not a bad wee showreel!

Unfortunately 99% of the Norwich fans don’t rate him at all…. In fact if they lose when he plays it’s because of him, if they win or draw it’s in spite of him!

All I’ve seen when I’ve watched him this season is a very talented young player giving his all and trying to play the right way, surrounded by very average players!

  6. The Norwich fans are an incredibly harsh bunch. Just flicked over to their forum at half-time and he’s getting pelters again, despite being comfortably their best midfielder. He lacks physicality yes, but that was never going to improve overnight. Dominating possession largely because of his ability on the ball.

Patterson on the bench for Rangers. No point jumping to conclusions on day 1 of the season, but still disappointing to see he isn't getting a start.

Very disappointing to be honest. And also Stephen Kelly couldn’t have done more preseason yet doesn’t even make the bench.

    Jenas is a f..king arrogant tosser.Nuff said.

Don’t think I’ve ever despised a pundit or commentator as much…. Him and Mowbray w*nking each other off every time England make a forward pass!

The Ukraine “in awe of what’s in front of them” comment from Jenas was the height of bawbaggery!

Mctominay as well we shoe horn him into the side just because of who he plays for.

He is a defencer who cannot defend and midfielder who is very poor on the ball and dreadful distribution.

He is one of those guys who will get to 60-70 caps by default and no one will have a clue why

McTominay is a prime example of how too much focus can be put on the club team a player plays for. While he’s a decent player, in my opinion he’s limited with poor defensive awareness and plays the game too much at his own pace (that irritating habit of rolling the ball with his foot as well!). Too many moments of slackness. Not a cdm and certainly not a centre half.
The last time he wasn’t involved, we actually played some great football against the Dutch.

Does anyone know how his progress is going?

Had a long spell out with injury. He’s fit again and will be promoted to Bayern’s second string this season. Possibly training with the first team from what I’ve heard.

  11. Trying to put a positive spin on it…..if he can dominate England’s’ midfield with COVID in his system then what is he capable of without???

Hope he makes a swift recovery.

  12. We’ve really missed that real talismanic figure in recent years, someone who is not only world class in his own right, but also raises the game of others around him.
    Gilmour may be that man.

Spot on. Sadly, some cannot see that. To me it is clear we lack a true international class striker. Adams perhaps has more to offer than Dykes in attack and should start against England.

Yeah can understand Dykes starting for his height and aerial ability and feeding off of second balls, but it was clear after about 15-20 mins that the centre halves had the measure of him.

Adams is definitely a level up and should start against England.

  14. I cannot stand the negative “same old Scotland” patter. If it was same old Scotland, we would be sitting watching a major tournament from our sofas wishing more than anything just to be involved! We are finally here and yes it was disappointing yesterday…but we’re far from out!

Losing a player of Tierney’s quality is a huge blow which no doubt filtered through the entire team, and while we’ve got some very good players we have a few that are out of their depth at that level. For me, one of our so-called big game players had a shocker yesterday, and it’s game like yesterday where I see why a lot of Man Utd fans don’t take to him.
We all know O’Donnell isn’t international quality but some of the abuse he was getting yesterday from the stands was horrific… and it certainly doesn’t help.

The difference between the sides yesterday was they were more clinical and scored a goal from the half way line! We had more than enough chances, but in Dykes we’ve got a decent, but not top quality striker… in Schick the Czechs do.
