  1. This Covid breach is potentially a very costly mistake for Patterson, because if he hadn't done that, he would be in Rangers first team for the foreseeable while Taverner is injured. If he played well he would have been well in Clarke's thoughts as he is perfect for the wingback role and we only have O'Donnell or Palmer there for now, Patterson already looks as good if not better than them at 19. If Patterson had got in the Rangers team and played well he might have got a chance, but no way will the SFA call a player in with a Covid breach hanging over him

In your dreams. He has no game intelligence whatsoever. All he will do is to over-run the ball out of play much quicker due to his pace.

To be fair all he has to to at right wing back is run in straight lines and track back. Might struggle with the tracking back though to be honest!

    Game passing him by tonight.

Chelsea defenders passing by him more like, right over his head! They keep slinging it long to beat Barnsley's press but all of Chelsea's best moments have started through him when they have actually played it through midfield.

The manager or captain should be telling them to stop being a couple of cunts

Agreed, it's f pathetic. They play for and hare paid by Sheffield United, respect that, respect the captain and the ways of the club instead of acting like childish idiots

That’s Foden played 100 senior games for Man City, Billy some way off that and only a year younger, obviously his injury has set him back a bit but really needs games.

That is a damning stat. Foden has always been getting dipped in and out of the team until this season where he is now a regular. Gilmour hasn't had that and isn't even in squads now. He should be playing 1st team football every week, he's too good for U23s pretty disgraceful how Chelsea are handling him at the moment.

  6. Worst possible timing Lampard getting sacked when he did because Gilmour was a 100 percent guaranteed starter in the next game for Lampard v Wolves. If Gilmour had played that game, and played the way he usually does when given an opportunity, I think he would have nailed that spot. Sometimes it's all about timing and you need a bit of luck and unfortunately Lampards sacking came at the worst possible time for him. Tuchel comes in throws experienced guys in and now he has to start trying to impress all over again, which has probably set him back months of first team football.

  7. Every time this boy is let of the leash he is outstanding! Has to be used box to box for us he is absolutely brilliant when he plays that position. He shouldn't be shackled in defence or in a holding role for United or for Scotland he is far better than that! He can do it all in Midfield, great passer, wins tackles, covers every blade if grass, gets forward, scores goals, the boy can do it all! He's our Stevie Gerrard!

Dykes and McBurnie make it into my squad.
didn’t know about Dykes Aussie rules background but looks like it and always enjoyed the lazy swung sock effort by , is it Scotland’s most expensive ever , record holding , player .

He's only Scotland's most expensive player ever because no one can afford Scott McTominay

he is really competing with Mcginn for the advanced midfield role in a three man midfield.  Only other way we can accommodate him is if we drop a striker to play a box in a 3-6-1 he would play alongside Mcginn.  Alternatively Mcginn moves back in to a holding role which I don’t think suits him. Could he play right wing back?

after that we would need to change formation... play him right side of a 4.

I have wondered about him at right wing back before, has the engine to get up and down but he's a player you really want in the final third as much as possible. His best position is clearly coming in from right Midfield in a 4 but that would require a change to a 4-4-2 which creates other conundrums!

Well if that is the player's mentality then we miss out on a player whose heart wasn't in representing us. 👍

His heart may well be in representing both countries so he chooses who asks first

If he or any other young player truly wants to represent us they will. It should not be a case of hurry up and cap them to tie them down. If he truly wants to play for us he'll be prepared to wait - a bit like Andrew Considine did.

I don't think it can be understated though how much some playersgenuinely feel tied to two countries so it may well be first come first served

    It's an idea.

First and foremost, Steve Clarke should use the three World Cup qualifiers (if they go ahead) to push Scott into midfield.

As far as the three center backs. There's no hard and fast rule that says a right footer should play RCB. Atalanta tore up Serie A last season, and they're doing well this season, with three right footed center backs.

Play our best central defenders, no matter the footedness. I wouldn't experiment with another midfielder in defence, for the simply reason only Jack has the defensive credentials to play there. I'd play Jack in the center of midfield with McTominay and McGinn.

Our pool of center backs: McKenna, Tierney, Cooper, Gallagher, Hanley, Hendry, Porteous.

    It's not bad.

As far as right wingback goes. That's the beauty of using wingbacks, you can drop a midfielder in that position, like we did with Craig Burley.

Would like to see Armstrong at right wing back

I agree with a lot of what you say here,  I don't like slating any player but i think it's quite obvious due to how their careers have stagnated that players such as Middleton, Maguire, McLennan &  2 or 3 others who started in Greece will never be good enough to step up to senior level yet they still stayed mainstays of the under 21 team during qualification while players with much more potential such Banks, Soutter, Turnbull & even Nathan Patterson where either benched or not selected at all.

Surely forward thinking associations don't let that happen.

As for Banks he still has time to commit, though maybe due to the style of player he is if he has been getting tapped up by the likes of Bale & Giggs so no amount of online love from the TA will make the lad see sense😬

This is spot on, can never understand why some players continually get picked at that sort of age range, where they are perhaps coming to the end of their time at 21 level and have stagnated a bit at club level, but still seem to get picked for their 'experience' at 21 level. If you look through all the countries or clubs throughout Europe, they continually play their best young players with the most potential a level up. And let's be honest the step up from 19s to 21s for the best players isn't a great jump which is what the likes of Gilmour and Patterson have proved. I have followed Scott Banks for a while and there is no doubt he is at least as good as some of the players that have been mentioned like Middleton and MacLennan but he is younger with more potential so disappointed if we lose him now.

On a side note the Welsh fans have noted that because we do have a bigger pool of players in Scotland it does give them a chance at times to nip in ahead and offer say a 19s player under 21 football whereas in our set up he would have to wait a while longer before making that step up.

Doesn’t matter what’s important to the people of Scotland, it’s all about the money.  That’s what will drive decision making. The spfl are walking a tightrope with government and have thrown the lower leagues under a bus to try and protect the spl.  If things get worse it will be shut down and doubt it will start again and the season will end with current standings.  I think  they might try and run the euros in one country but will depend on the scale of pandemic then - no crowds.

I hope it does get shut down, it's a disgrace the lower leagues have been shut down but yet the spl continues. It's far more important to the country on a sporting level and a financial level to have the euros in this country that continue running some two bob league

  15. They should really call all the league's the now and shut everything down properly until end of March then see how the land lies with vaccinations and infection rates etc and make a decision then. Getting the euros on is far more important to everyone in this country rather than some pathetic Scottish football season

    Yep.

It's nuanced. Some would say if you have less strikers, the midfield will be stronger for having an extra body, and yet our midfield has constantly been over-ran when we played one up top.

Agreed. I'll save it all up for when our next manager rips up our current system. ;)

    Talking of Kyle Joseph...

The main pic on his Twitter page is of a Scotland team photograph (probably u19s). Which is nice that he seems proud to represent us. Let's just hope he progresses into a good striker.

That's great he seems passionate about Scotland but that just reminded me about another player, Scott Banks of Crystal Palace, great talent, apparently considering switching to Wales?
