A year is a long time in football. It looks like Clarke no longer has any intention of playing McTominay in defence now he appears to have found central defenders he trusts.

If McTominay is ever played there in future it will likely be because Clarke feels he has no choice due to injuries. Hopefully it will never come to that.

He was only ever played there to shoe horn him into the side

Scott McTominay is a very very good player and imo played out of position at Man.Utd with the fans getting on his back all too often, with them all living in previous glory with Scholes Giggs Keane Beckham etc

He has mentioned several times in the past that he used to play a more advanced role when he was younger!
Certain TA were all too critical when he was played as a Centre Half

Most definitely a player for the future with Scotland and whatever Premiership Club that chooses to pick him 👌🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

He is 27 this year so needs to be a player for the now not the future .

Keep in the role he is now , no central defence nonsense .

will need to get a move away at club level though

  3. Mcallister and Caceido off injured but still gilmour doesn’t get off the bench

This De Zebri plays a much more attacking creative style than potter , this is probably why gilmour doesn’t get on.

He offers nothing creative or attacking so he won’t get a look in.

just a question of where he is off to next , probably upper championship at best

Adams may not feature against Spain due to a tight calf, this again shows Clarke needs to improve with contingent planning in his squads. I doubt Dykes can play 90, he should have added another striker.

He does but Scotland fitness is the not the same as club fitness .

Remember Fraser was always injured for Newcastle got in squads played , then went back to be injured again at club level .

  5. Not sure of the timing of this what happens if we get a poor result tomorrow .

if he fails to get us to the euros which will still be a challenge with the squad limitations . I would not be keen on him having another campaign .

Makes you wonder why Clarke is wasting squad places on guys that aren't going to be fit.

Big difference between what scotland considers fit and club level fitness.  The gilmour situation not that he offers much but still not sure if he is injured again or completely out the picture now at Brighton .

but seems to be guaranteed a spot even if injured.

can see at least three or four withdrawals .

Strange one but Tierney getting 8 /10  last 2 games for Arsenal as a sub . Will take that thought as proves hes still sharp . Good for us

It’s common knowledge the bbc ratings are spammed every time he plays even limited minutes , been going on for a long time .

it’s pretty embarrassing compared to the ratings of the real quality at arsenal

Interpreting Anges comments I take it that Taylor is carrying an injury but could still play / be managed through the games. Ange said the rehab info is sent to the national setups and then its for the manager to decide. So I think Clarke has probably thought its in the players best interests to rehab rather than train and most likely not play.

No way should players be allowed to use international fixtures for building up fitness for club level .

we aren’t the fittest national team in the world and looks like we are going to carry lots of players who have little playing time anyway without allowing injured players to play.

  9. Still feel a lot of these players, will be withdrawn as injured by their clubs.

I don’t think clubs really trust us with their players especially in England , due to our less than sophisticated training

Even those that are not injured don’t exactly play much club football . Worrying times

Before anyone gets too excited, ATM he's rated as the 22nd best goalie (and he's only played 20 games)

Yes our benchmark for selecting players is a pretty low bar

  11. Still concerns that this guy is now our medium term keeper, the fact that no other keepers were looked at during friendlies , do fear the worst for this campaign but thankfully we have the play offs

Another in a long list of players who did not realise their full potential due to non-footballing reasons.

I genuinely think he is a fantastic player that probably should be sitting on over 50 caps by now. He's probably the closest player we've had to a Shaun Maloney or James McFadden replacement. But he's just never been able to get an extended run in the team for various reasons.

At 29, his next move is going to be extremely important. He needs to find the right team to settle into for the next 4+ years. Fingers crossed he doesn't just go to the MLS.

His next move will be the championship in England , no top level side will touch him
