I received this email from the Russian National Office

The price structure doesn’t look like it’s copied and pasted over but the cost of a single entry visa is £185 and you will receive it in 20 days, £285 if you want it in 4 days

It's expensive as they are providing a service.

Better to apply via the Russian Embassy in London, or the Consulate in Edinburgh. It's cheaper (only 120) and faster (5 days).

I have just read article which suggests no entry to ground without passport. Has this been confirmed by SSC and will it be enforced? Will SSC is card not be sufficient especially with 100% pickup?

Not sure if SSC have released their info yet, but ticket pick up and getting into the the stadium are two separate issues.

Fail to see the problem with carrying a passport though. It was fine for Hungary.

Aye got exactly the same email. Absolutely no use the day before because the hotel I have in Tirana the rooms are non refundable. Cancelled flights and as mentioned flying from Gatwick to Tirana on the Thursday afternoon. Unfortunately the hotel I had booked on wednesday night in Luton was non refundable and I have also had to cancel the flight from edinburgh to luton on wednesday night and I am now flying from edinburgh to gatwick early on thursday. Won't be flying with wizz air again.

Or maybe just don't book non-refundable rooms?

Good point - because this is a non-tradeable currency, do not use ATMs unless absolutely necessary, otherwise your home bank will murder you with charges.

Think my bank charged me about 10%

I think we could still get pot 3 if we finish second in our Nations League group, in fact we could still make the playoffs.

Top 6 in Division C (4 gorup winners and the two best second place teams) go to pot three for Euro 2020 qualification, and the other 9 go to pot four.

Bring Bank of Imperialist Oppressor's notes or Euros (or US dollars, Swiss francs) and you exchange them at the many currency places in the main cities.

    I'll second this.

When I was there last year, withdrawing money from an ATM came with a hefty fee though - not sure if that was down to my bank (which is Slovak) and the Albanian bank. Fortunately many places accepted Euros at a fair rate.

I always make a point of staying in the host city for a few days and if it's a provincial city, tag on a few days in the capital (think Trnava/Bratislava or Novi Sad/Belgrade).

    Albania will be no different.

FRI-SAT-SUN in Shkoder, preceded by umpteen days in Tirana.

Thing is, I'd quite like to have a weekend in Tirana and that would mean spending 10 nights in Albania and likely 7 of them in Tirana.

Would 7 nights in Tirana be excessive? Is there lots to see and do? The guidebook I've read doesn't indicate so, but I don't necessarily believe they cover everything.

Would you recommend anywhere else, midweek, in between Tirana and Shkoder?

P.S. Shkoder looks a nice wee town; good of weekend?

We had 3 nights in Shkoder last year - really enjoyed it.

If you're looking for a (very) roundabout way to get to Tirana, check the Komani lake ferry. One of the most spectacular ferry journeys I've taken.

One of my best friends is a young outward looking, well travelled guy from outside Budapest.  He votes for Orban which i could not believe.

i think they genuinely are scared of what they see in parts of France, Belgium and the UK.  They don't think the governments here asked anyone if they wanted areas of their country to culturally change over such a short time.  And Orban is saying he's giving them the choice.  They saw literally hundreds of thousands of people going through their country (mostly men) to Austria and Germany and are worried they'll have them sent back to them.

it's probably largely overplayed as few of these immigrants want to settle in Hungary.  I saw what i thought was quite a patronising article on the BBC about the Hungarian town with no immigrants fearful of immigrants.  The point is they want the cultural demographics to stay the way it is.

Sadly, that's pretty much spot on.

Immigration always gets blamed for diluting a county, tradition or culture. However, these things will only survive if the younger generation choose to preserve them.

  9. Many of those who critise immigration in Hungary are more than happy to go work in another EU member state. Same situation in the other 'Visegrád' countries too. Quite frustrating.

A response to the policies of the EU / failed left wing governments?

There aren't any left wing governments in the EU - most are slightly left or right of centre.

Panoramic Photo or this is deemed null and void. That photo could have been taken before kick off or at half time

    10 minutes ago, DoonTheSlope said:

Exactly, but you are trying to pass it off as evidence that people never bothered to turn up

You asked for a panoramic photo as proof. Whilst this isn't a panoramic, it is a photo taken during the game, and shows plenty of gaps in the crowd.
Are you suggesting the entire back two rows decided to go for a slash at the same time?

    8 minutes ago, DoonTheSlope said:

All this unwarranted criticism that I’ve seen on here and social media of the SSC staff is going beyond the pale.  The staff will bear the brunt of disgruntled fans who didn’t get tickets, no doubt for years to come when people just fancy a dig at them. The SSC aren’t perfect by any means but this debacle had nothing to do with what the SSC did or didn’t do

Having seen the shambles that the SSC staff had to deal with by the Hungarian FAs poor organisation at first hand, I suggest anyone with any grievances should be directing any anger towards our Hungarian counterparts and not the SSC staff

SSC do a fantastic job. However that doesn't change the fact that there were at least 200 empty seats in the Scotland section, which is ridiculous given the number who watched the game in the pub.

Mmmm a few people standing in the aisles (most not shown), a few congregating down the front along with a few at the kiosks and and at. the shitehooses

If the gaps were more sporadic rather than  the back two rows I’d be more inclined to believe that people didn’t even bother to attend but the way the gaps are I’m prepared to give people the benefit of the doubt in that they are situated elsewhere

Again, this photo could have been taken at half time or before kick off

The photo doesn't show anyone congregating down the front, not does it show how many were at kiosks or toilets. All it shows is the number of empty seats in a snap shot of the crowd at a particular point during the evening. The gaps are sporadic if you look closely.

The photo was taken towards the end of the first half (I am top left, and moved further down as soon as the half time whistle went). If that photo had been taken at half time people would be sitting down, some would have food and drink, and I doubt anyone would be waving a flag, clapping, or looking in the same direction.

As I said earlier, 90 empty seats in the back two rows. That was 20 minutes into the game. If you don't want to believe that, that's your problem.

SSC members who were in Budapest and didn't have tickets should be asking why there were so many empty seats.

Maybe a fair number of them were congregated in the stairwells and along the barriers at the front because they couldn’t sit next to friends?

Got speaking to a few kilts in a bar and the  word on the street the day after the game around Budapest was there was only a small few cancellations before the trip and only 8 were uncollected at the pick up point. Just a rumour, but judging by the photos I’ve seen I’d be surprised if this wasn’t close to the truth

I think we can put this harvesting shite to bed once and for all

Wasn't much space to congregate at front or on stairwells.

I heard a rumour of 150 uncollected tickets.
