To be fair, we have to play Senegal first, but I would say that on current evidence England are capable of giving any of the teams a game. To say the above may come back to haunt you. Our record in the last couple of tournaments isn’t that bad. And again those “diddy teams” actually qualified for a World Cup, which is more than you can say for some other teams 😉

You’d have to be thick to get a yellow card for walking on the pitch and presumably again in the next game and then miss the next (without and cards actually picked up whilst playing) thats not bottling it, it’s having to put up with the rules that fifa lay down.

I didn’t say you had. Behaving like that during a funeral procession is simply rude and ill mannered and I would tend to disagree that it wasn’t an issue. I suspect 99% of the people were there to show their respect. Plod probably did him a favour getting hold of him as he would likely have gotten a hiding off of people in the crowd.

I really couldn’t give a monkeys 😉 it’s sport it happens week in week out some go for you some go against you. Last night the better side won albeit off an iffy decision so I’ll take it and I would stake my house on the fact that the majority on here would react in exactly the same way. Maradona put the ball in the net with his hand and I’ve seen plenty of posts on here laughing and celebrating that fact. It’s football I get it . I’m equally old enough to have watched that game and imho he’s the best footballer the world has ever seen and we could’ve played for a month and not beat them. I’m sure Copenhagen is a no go area for Sterling for the foreseeable and they’ll bemoan that soft penalty for years and curse their luck. Cheating in football and most team sports has existed since they began. Hacking someone down when through on goal. Stopping a ball on the line with your arm. What happened last night was a defender made contact with a player in the box without getting the ball and the player went down and the ref gave a penalty. It happened years ago and will continue to happen. You call it cheating others call it playing the game. You might not like it but that’s football in 2021
Nicking a wallet is theft and against the law, going down in the penalty box because a defender made contact isn’t. I would totally agree that it was a soft penalty and years ago it would never have been given but in today’s game it can and was given.
if you want ethical validity take up chess because it has never existed in the game of football. Granted there are moments when individuals show great sportsmanship and that is to be applauded, but I refer to my previous comment that most on here would be pissing themselves laughing if that penalty was given the other way. Karma is a bitch and we are up against the masters of gamesmanship on Sunday so look forward to Italy returning the favour on us 😉 -

Nope not in the slightest 😘 Italy will probably get one on Sunday and if they do I’ll moan about it for 5 minutes and move on. It happens every week and if you got one against us in the group game, most on here would be laughing their arses off. Whether you like it or not there was contact and Sterling went down. It was a ridiculously soft penalty granted. But like I said if it goes your way, you take it. When I see Scotland refuse a soft penalty in a knockout game I’ll cede you the moral high ground 😉

The reason it reminds me though is my mother...for the life in her, she couldn't understand why I'd support "The Germans" over a Yorkshire team. "Your Grandad would be turning in his grave"; ignoring the fact he'd been cremated.
She even went around telling the neighbours, who clearly concluded there was something not quite right with the lad at no. 2.
Much like with England at the moment, the hype is aimed at folk like my neighbours who I know for fact have never set foot inside a football ground but are turning up with crates of crap Aldi lager & going ballistic every time we score. They are easy prey to get stupid & as a result spend money.
Football rivalry is part & parcel of the game. If you don't hate at least one team almost as much as you love your own, then you're not really trying. England fans were cheering when news came through that Scotland were losing v. Croatia, not from arrogance but from basic, old-school rivalry. Much like Leeds pretending the Mancs are their big rivals & they aren't interested in us, but getting an extra several thousand there whenever they play us, it's much the same with England & Scotland. We can pretend the real rivalry is Germany but we all know there's something a bit special about playing Scotland.
It pisses me off beyond belief when anyone whose great granny one went to Eyemouth on holiday is forced to say who they will support. Just bloody tell them you're ABE; go for it; we love it.
Finally onto Ramy...you know what, you're the sort of bloke I'd have a pint with. Heart on your sleeve & if I knew you, I'd have been texting you every day asking who you've got in the next round. I don't really think everyone born in Leeds is a 6-fingered knuckle-dragging moron, but you'd never guess that to talk to me half the time.
I’d agree with that but you can’t expect non-footballing bandwagon jumper onners to be excluded either. My partner couldn’t give a monkeys about football and she usually hates it but she has got into the tournament as have your neighbours. I detest Arsenal with a passion. My dad, eldest boy and sister support them yet we all go and watch Southend together. I certainly wouldn’t expect any Scotland supporter to wish England anything but the worst. My partner wanted wales to do well and couldn’t understand why I wanted them royally humped as soon as possible. True they only really care for a few weeks but it’s be churlish to say they couldn’t enjoy a few weeks of football and then they can get back to love island 😉
