  1. No they don't get paid, however upon qualifying for a European Championships or World Cup an Association will normally pay players ''bonuses'' for qualification, gained from the UEFA/FIFA prize money.

  2. This is pathetic. Strachan on the radio tonight just avoided any questions about the politics of this. I can understand why, as SFA are paying his wages, but we are just prostituting ourselves for a few pieces of silver.

Or maybe he's keeping his mouth shut because he manages our football team and not our government, its not his place to speak about politics.

  3. forgot about that, thanks haha. i knew we were in for a doing then, that dutch team had some great players.

me neither, its france or maybe never for me, as i dont fancy russia and qatar can get tae france even if i was offered free flights and digs, awful place (and yes i have been there)

I still cant believe the next euros are going to be spread out, absolute joke i cant believe more isnt being said about that. woooow you get to go on club style away trips, how innovative, imagine how ace a couple of weeks in spain or germany or italy would be. actually dont even care if we qualify for it.

We all knew they had better players, but that Dutch team wasn't ''special'' they were much better than us, but having managed only a 2-1 defeat away to Germany months earlier (fancied this scoreline to qualify) and an underdog situation that seemed to suit us (glad to see the back of the faroes) everyone around me seemed to think we had a chance after the first leg clean sheet.

  4. Yes could happen but doubt that very much.

As you know football is goes around and its now our turn.

This tournament then build for world cup cant see why not can you ? got the players and the management team in place already mate.

I can understand your logic here, but I'm a fully grown adult with a car and a job, and I was a toddler the last time we qualified (I was probably too ingrained in postman pat to watch much football) and I haven't seen us qualify yet.

I understandibly share his pessimism, the idea of Scotland actually qualifying seems a far flung dream when I've been through so many failed qualifying campaigns.

  5. The 6-0 defeat to Holland in 2004 was a watershed for me,genuinely thought we were gonna qualify after the 1-0 first leg win.

Italy 2007 was gutting...but not as bad as I was immensely proud of the performance, was ashamed after Holland.

Still haven't seen us at a major tournament yet.

  6. Hmmmmm I think he did what any goalkeeper would have done with a oponent totally unmarked like he was, so pretty blame-less IMHO

I disagree that it wasn't a mistake, he might have been through....but by the time he is in a position to shoot there are 3 defenders behind the ball, 2 of which who were forced to go on the line because Marshall came recklessly off it.

If he stayed on his line Casciaro would have had to beat 3 defenders and Marshall from outside the box.

Of course this is ignoring Marshall's earlier error in the match from a cross that a good team would have punished.

  7. This has bugged me for ages - inverted wingers. What is the theory for this formation??

We had it the other night with a right footed Anya on the left and a left footed Ritchie on the right. Anya's good chances were wasted when through on goal (particularly from McArthur's pass), and as for the lack of good quality balls played into the box...

It's something Levein did too. Cyprus away sticks in my mind with Mackie on the left and Robson on the right.

Is it a tactical thing where these players are supposed to cut inside for a shot? Are they meant to come inside to leave space for an overlapping full-back or what? I just want speedy wingers/wide players skipping past people, hitting the line and crossing or pulling back. Something we WOULD be capable of if players played on their natural side.

Edit: Players that cannae play fitba with both feet shouldnae even be near international fitba, but that's a thread for another day.

That Argentine kid Messi looks not bad as well for a one-footed player.

To answer your question though, very rarely in the modern game does that type of ''Jinky'' winger play on his strong side, stick to the touchline and just beat players and put crosses in.

This is a modern tactical evolution because it is so easy for that type to ''drift out of a game'' playing an opposite footer leaves them coming inside looking to receive the ball and play in a dynamic fashion.

  8. Just to bring it back down to earth.. yes, 2 good goals the other day by Watt, but he's only scored in 2 of his 10 Charlton appearances. Hardly pulling up tree's just yet and we have other strikers not getting picked who are in much better form.

I hope he doesn't get a call up, he doesn't deserve it, yet. Hopefully he will at some point, but right now it's a no.

He was already called up to a squad against Croatia in 2013,surely another call-up will hardly break the boy?

  9. To Paraphrase Gordon, you never know when ''the big one'' is coming, every game is huge and we have to work hard to gain 3 points, as a young twenty-something I've never actually seen Scotland at a major tournament, would be an absolute dream to see us qualify.

  10. In what actual games was he "very poor"?

I'll make it easy for you.

Here's the games he played in in the last two seasons

    Germany Sep 7, 2014 ECQ L 2-1 Sub-On 57 min
    Georgia Oct 11, 2014 ECQ W 1-0 Sub-On 79 min
    Norway Nov 19, 2013 Int W 0-1 Sub-On 63 min
    Croatia Oct 15, 2013 WCQ W 2-0 Sub-On 81 min
    Macedonia Sep 10, 2013 WCQ W 1-2 Sub-On 77 min
    Croatia Jun 7, 2013 WCQ W 0-1 Started
    Estonia Feb 6, 2013 Int W 1-0 Sub-On 61 min
6 out of 7 wins for Scotland.

The only time he got 90 minutes was against Croatia away (1-0 win for us btw). Was he very poor that day?

    I don't think he's a bad player but I do think that's somewhat of a false statistic.

He will have played in more victories than losses because he's the the type of player you bring on whilst winning to ''shore things up''.

Strachan's never gonna bring him on to change a game.

  11. Some nonsense comments on here as if the lads somehow defected. Looking at their stats at national level, at what point exactly were they ever committed to the Scottish cause? Where's the problem here? They nailed their colours to the mast early days, so case closed as far as I'm concerned.

    Aiden McGeady

    National team

    2004– Republic of Ireland 72 (5)

    James McCarthy

    National team

    2007 Republic of Ireland U17 3 (1) 2007–2008 Republic of Ireland U18 2 (2) 2007–2008 Republic of Ireland U19 1 (0) 2008–2012 Republic of Ireland U21 7 (1) 2010– Republic of Ireland 24 (0)

The issue is that They're Scottish, not Irish.

  12. Chris burke is a waste of a jersey, and to exclude Rhodes for mcleod is just fecking shocking. No sign of Rhodes, Russell, Bryson or Cairney. I hope wgs knows what he is doing!

How could he be omitting Rhodes for MaCleod?

They're not even close to playing in the same position!!

MaCleod is the young player being called up to have a look at.

  13. McLeod can get the badger. So many players would be better there. And "it's for experience" can gtf too. We have at lease 3 or 4 forwards better than him without thinking.

The fact that you (somewhat hilariously) think he's a forward tells me you don't know enough about the kid to make an informed decision.

He has ability in every attribute he could possibly need, terrific prospect.

  14. Has anybody had a look at the SFA Corporate strategy from 2011?

It planned to create an extra income of 1.3 million a year by 2015 (even though only 155k of funding was actually detailed).

The thing was written by a bizarre guy who owns a (definately not world renound!) company, and is full of quotes from a mostly discredited book on business which is just full of buzz words.

My point is: with the 2015 target so close have they panicked and tried to make up the target funding gap by conning supporters?

  15. My son Jimmy had me up at 5.35am asking is it was time to go to the Scotland game yet... He is so excited It's brilliant. He is only 4 and a bit so hope he has a good time.

Got me to thinking what are your memories of your first Scotland game how old wereb you etc?

    aged 10 in 2004, 0-0 draw v Slovenia.

Berti accepting a draw to save his job.

  16. I find it concerning to the point of embarrasement when diehard Scots think a political vote can change their own personal feelings on nationality, and accept it like Gospel.

In the past when Scotland was invaded by England, it was Scots own personal feelings that even an INVASION couldn't change the fact that they are Scottish, that has endured Scotland to exist as a nation to this day.

A referendum could never kill Scotland, a national attitude that Scotland is dead because of which way a vote went.... could kill Scotland.

  17. all of the visitors to Hampden can come and laugh at us in person.

Really could not give a flying badger about this right now. I have decision to make on whether I can go and watch a region of britain play football

I was Scottish when I watched us play Germany, I'm Scottish today, I'll be Scottish when they put my body into the ground.

Never let a political vote change what you feel about Scotland, Scotland is more important than that.

  18. If Champo league is so good should Ireland call up Stokes and Cillian Sheridan,or Eoghan o Connell? Mcgeady has started 2 out of 3 games and got an assist and a goal so hes doing very well. Would rather a youngster who gets games for Villa than harper who probably wont make the grade at Real. I mentioned Grealish because he has a chance of first team apperances. I could have said Ian Lawlor and Jack Byrne,Lawlor has made Citys full champions league squad a few times.

    Betsy,

You do realise that we are Scotland supporters, and as such will display pride about our team, no national fan is exactly going to bow down to your views on how much better you think ROI are than Scotland.

If there was a German supporter on here some would argue with him because we have optimistic views on our own team.

If you want to tell everyone how great you think Ireland are and hope for agreement then I suggest you stay on Ireland forums.

  19. Far too high a figure for someone who is playing in the second tier. Look at what all other youngsters go for? I give you Stevie May. Or is it just because you think because he plays for the peepel that he must go for more than a mill?

Connor McGrandles just left Falkirk for 1 million.

I don't think it would we unreasonable for Rangers to ask for that type of fee for their best young asset.

Its pocket change to English clubs.
